  1. I certainly wouldn't want to be the official who has to try and read your match report if your grammar on here is anything to go by.

On a serious note, the guy obviously has nothing to offer, but he's having fun stringing people along with his little hints and suggestions that he's somehow "in the know".

  2. That just backs up my previous argument 'We?' didn't have 10,000 against Falkirk, the ground did hold that attendance, but Falkirk brought somewhere around 3,500 to 4,000 that day.

Even if Falkirk did bring the amount of fans you say they did, we still got a crowd of 6,000-7,000 fans for a fourth round cup tie against a division 1 team, didn't we?

I seriously doubt we would get that now if we were drawn against someone like Dundee or Ross County.

Happened regularly as I stated from the late 60's onwards - it was other teams away supports which inflated the gates at Fir Park not our fans.

I'm assuming that when you say "clubs carried much healthier 'away' supports" that you're talking about Motherwell too?

In the end, it shows that fans were attending football regularly back then.

I can remember going to games in the mid 80's with my dad and my cousins almost every week.

That kind of thing simply can't happen anymore. It's way too expensive.

As many others have already said, if other entertainment companies can cut their cloth accordingly in this day & age, then so can football.

  3. Motherwell, like it or not, is a business and they can't run a charity.

In that case, we are this particular business paying customer.

To ask for £20 to see a game of the standard we get in the SPL is ridiculous. Not to mention the financial condition that this country is in.

Every other form of entertainment has worked diligently to keep their customer base happy, and to try and provide good value for money, yet football clubs seem to think that we can be shafted simply because we are fans of the club.

That has been the case for years, but with other more professional, more value for money ways to spend a weekend becoming available, not to mention the small matter of football on TV, things are slowly changing, and they will continue unless the clubs get their heads out of their arses and shift themselves into the modern era.

When you throw in the catering as well, and the way the stewards act towards some fans, it's a blatant rip-off.

Like I said, any other business being run in this way would have went under years ago.

SPL clubs still run their affairs and provide a service that was seen as semi-acceptable in the 70's and 80's.

Outwith the Old Firm, we are all living in the dark ages, and it's eventually going to cause some major problems down the line.

When you see the shambles we have presently with regards to catering, stadium facilities and the basic cost of a game, it's no wonder that the younger generation are choosing to spend their money on a sky sports subscription and a Premiership teams football shirt instead.

  4. Seeing that thread about Falkirk memories instantly reminded me of the game against Falkirk during our Scottish cup run in 1991.

It's amazing to think that we got over 10,000 fans for a 4th round cup game against a 1st division team back then.

What would we get for a 4th round cup game against Falkirk nowadays?

  5. Expensive to install and run. plus all it would take is for a server to crash / power fault at the turnstyle and we are all stuck outside missing the kick off.

Isn't it pretty much the norm down south? Or has only a few clubs decided to go down that route?

  6. Football clubs should look upon us as customers and should treat us as customers, there is however no need to use the term customers. What next call the players 'football technique operatives'

    "football technique operatives"? ;)

I've heard players referred to as "employees", which is fair enough, and us, as people who pay money for a product, are indeed customers.

Sure, it's not a phrase that i'd want to see used too much, but the truth is, if any other business offered the same value for money and quality of service as SPL clubs, they would have been flushed down the toilet a long time ago.

I'm not bashing the club, as I believe that Leeanne Dempster has made some noises that suggest things are moving in the right direction, but at the same time, we have every right to complain (in a constructive manner where possible) about how the club is treating the fans.

  7. I'm sure it's been mentioned before, but would it be so hard to set up a couple of franchises in the stadium? A Greggs and maybe a confectionary kiosk or something?

This is just another aspect of Scottish football that takes the piss when compared with virtually any other form of entertainment out there.

  8. The pies aren't that bad, and you pal with the bovril must have been unlucky cause mines is always fucking scorching.

    Maybe.

    Still, this is 2010.

The quality of the catering is a fucking disgrace.

  9. Heard a rumour today that the stumbling block is Archie Knox. Not that Boyle doesn't rate him, but there a couple of factors that make Boyle want someone else as Brown's number two. The wage that Knox is on for an assistant manager is a bit rich for Boyle's tastes. That and the fact that Boyle would rather have an assistant that Brown can groom to take over in a couple of years time.

I was kind of hoping that Brown would bring in someone a bit younger who could be a potential future manager.

  10. In terms of discounting prices overall, as far as I am concerned it does little to boost the long term gate. When they drop it to circa £10 a ticket, 7,000 come. If they done that every week it would drop back to 4,000 a week in less than 3 games.

I don't think that providing a discount on pricing for a while is the answer.

Lowering prices to £10 per head for the East Stand for a game or two won't make any difference.

We need a drop to somewhere around £15 permanently.

As I mentioned previously, it's only £3 of a difference, but it seems to be a more acceptable price.

I'm not sure if it's the idea of £18 being closer to the 20 quid mark, but £15 sounds a hell of a lot more fairer to me, and such a price would have seen me go a good few more times in the past.

  11. I actually managed to convince three mates to come along to the St Mirren game who hadn't been to a Motherwell game before.

It crept closer & closer to half-time, and they eventually went to the food stand.

One of them came back with a cheeseburger which had no cheese on it, a Yorkie bar that cost a quid, and half a cup of lukewarm bovril.

The other got two lukewarm pies that gave him the sick belches later on in the day.

    Brilliant.

  12. I agree that the season book idea is the way to go.

Fair enough, like someone has already said, we may not attract another 5,000 or 6,000 fans, but if we can even influence another 1,000 or so to put their cash down for a season, then it's got to be considered worth it.

  13. Away games televised at FP? :woop:

If this type of thing was to catch on, then away crowds would fall away drastically.

    They would indeed.

However, if it was a choice between travelling to another clubs ground, paying them my ticket money, plus all the extras of buying food and programmes etc, or going to Fir Park and paying them money to buy drink, maybe some food and even an entrance fee, I know what i'd rather do.

I'm not even going to mention the attractive bonus of watching the game in a warm environment with fellow 'Well fans whilst enjoying a pint.

  14. You've obviously never bent a bank card in your jeans pocket!

I've never understood people who carry their bank cards loose in their pockets. That's an incredibly easy way to lose it.

Since the age of 17 or so i've always carried a wallet.

  15. It seems pretty obvious that the club can't really drop prices by a substantial amount on a regular basis, although i'd certainly like to see ticket prices drop a little. Perhpas by the following;

O'Donnell stand - It's £22 standard entry at present, which i'd like to see dropped to £20. It's a small amount, but £20 just sounds better than £22.

Cooper stand - Same as above.

East stand - Currently sitting at £18, i'd drop it to £15. Again, it's not much of a difference, but £15 just sounds a whole lot more acceptable to me than £18 for some reason.

I'm only speaking personally of course, but if I was thinking of going to the game, and it was £15 to get in rather than £18, i'd likely go more.

I'm not too sure why. It just sounds more reasonable, even though it's only a couple of quid.

Also, I read in another thread an idea of showing the away games in the Cooper suite? Anyone know the deal with that?
