Oops - I thought it was Carswell that came on and gave him the credit for some nice touches. Agree with wanting to see more of him.

I thought both teams played really well in an entertaining first half but they both lacked quality in the second half although St. Johnstone were marginally better and deserved to take the lead but then they seemed to lose their way when we equalised and we managed to lift it a bit. How we didn't manage to get a second from the stramash in front of goal and from Higdon's header I'll never know - I honestly did not think it possible for their goalie to save that. Law had a good first half and seemed to disappear in the second until taking the man on to create the goal. Ojamma was completely anonymous and with him and Daley we seemed to be playing with two passengers. I can only assume Lasley was knackered or had taken a knock but Carswell did well when he came on and showed some nice touches. Best player on the park though was Hasselbank who seems transformed from his Accies or St. Mirren days. As for Vine, I'm sure he's a decent player but he had one of the worst performances I've ever seen culminating in a fresh air shot and then getting sent off. On that evidence I'm not sure how much game time he'll get now they've signed Beattie.

Anyway, in the BBC's report on last night's game McCall says we didn't make much money from the tie but the cut in TV money is nothing like as much as feared so he's looking to see if he can bring someone in.
-
Was he one of the Morton team who didn't show up against us in the cup?
-
Did it finish 1 - 0?

To be honest, there's an element of that even when we play Celtic or Rangers. Occasionally we hear the club has tried to get a young player bulked up but these larger clubs obviously do it to a much greater degree.

I posted the question during the game as he came on as part of a triple substitution during a standing ovation for Faddy. It's hard enough making out the tannoy at the best of times and I normally rely on the programme but he wasn't listed.
-
Who is sub 24 for us? Not listed in programme.

You'd have to laugh at the irony or you'd cry if Jennings signs for Rangers after we can't afford him because they went bust.

I know its a big step up but are there plans to keep collecting to upgrade to the £5k membership or several £1000 memberships , even if it takes a few years?

I have to admit to being very concerned about the financial future of our club no matter what way any voting goes. First and foremost, I am a Motherwell supporter and am more concerned about having a club to watch and support than what happens to Rangers. It's now got to the point that we are going to lose a great deal of money with any of the possible scenarios. Rangers are not going to be accepted into the SPL and I agree with that but if the consequences of them entering the third division, which is generally accepted as the fairest decision, mean my club goes into administration or worse then I could live with them entering the first division as long as they are given a whole list of punishments. I know it's bending the rules but my priority is the future of Motherwell including its financial stability. Many have commented on the futility of the club relying on income from the Old Firm and the TV deal but their business plan has to include income which has been a constant for years and we are contracted to receive unless a very unexpected event happens. No matter what way it goes, we as fans are going to have to step up to the plate to back up our actions with the No vote and I have been concerned with the level of criticism of the pricing of the CL qualifier when we are regularly asked to pay £20-25 for bog standard SPL away games. I'll do what I can and I just hope sufficient others will too, no matter what their views on where Rangers should be playing or where that ends up.

Straight Question(S) To The Board Of Mfc Re. Sfl Proposal
daver replied to Steve Diggle's topic in Club Chat
I know it was Jim Treanor but he said on Radio Scotland tonight that he's spoken to two chairmen who've said they won't be able to go on if they don't get their August payment from Sky (600 odd grand). When asked if they were west coast he said yes. As this leaves us, Killie and St. Mirren (assuming it's not Celtic ) it's very worrying if true and would explain why there may be talks going on in the background. I understand many people would walk away but chairmen may be acting in the knowledge that they're either going to have a club with a reduced fan base or no club at all. -
If the TV deal were to drop by, say a third, and Rangers currently get say, a third of the money, would it all be swings and roundabouts if a deal is worked out for a more equal split of the money?
-
Exactly - we won't be able to afford to bring anyone in and we have to get behind who we have. We're going to need something to happen that we haven't budgeted for like a good player sale, cup runs or higher than expected income from Europe to get by without bringing in new players. The good thing is everyone else will be in the same boat but I'm excited at the prospect of giving some of the youngsters a chance.

I was out with a friend last night who has just canceled his Rangers season ticket after having one for 27 years as he doesn't know where the money will go. He's convinced Green won't make the SFA application by Friday so won't even be allowed in the 3rd division. The difference is he says he and his 2 boys will be lost to Scottish football. There could be some busy golf courses.
-
Until we know where Rangers will be playing next season, I'll be amazed if we sign anyone and expect us to just shuffle things around to replace those that have left. Although we'd maybe be willing to make an exception for a short-term deal for McFadden if it suited both parties!
-
I've wondered about this in the past and particularly thought we could start with small groups of clubs in roughly the same part of the country such as ourselves, St. Mirren and Kilmarnock putting a package together. Unfortunately the split complicates how that could work but it should be possible to get people to commit to a certain number of away games through a ticket for a season or a group of games if there is a saving to be made.

The costs do add up and I hope they bought stamps in bulk before the recent price hike but an earlier poster suggested returning the votes with a cheque to cover admin costs and I'll be doing that. I'm voting No and accept that as a consequence of a doing so the club will be worse off financially, due to the loss of a large number of visiting fans and possibly other reasons as well. The club have stated they need to replace or reduce this loss as much as possible and I see that as fact rather than scaremongering. Obviously it's up to others what they can and can't afford and whether they want to do it but I intend to send the club a donation to cover the cost of a Rangers fan who will not be attending the first game at Fir Park as a result of the club (and others) voting them out of the SPL. I'll then take a view on it later in the season, probably at the time of our second home game against Club 12.
-
Unfortunately I don't think the majority of 1st division chairmen have the balls to weigh up potential Rangers supporters against reduction in numbers of their own fans.
-
One slightly misleading thing in the letter is the SPL income for last season. As we finished third this was a few hundred grand more than we would normally get. I'm sure we don't budget for finishing third so any reduction wouldn't be quite as much as the letter insinuates.
-
There's been talk before of a suspension from the cup for a year being one of the options open to the SFA but that's what they dish out to teams who make a mistake with registration or the like so it would need to be a minimum of 2 years.
-
One thing that's obvious is we will lose out financially either way and we'll just have to get on with it. Our vote is also starting to look academic anyway as there will probably be enough other clubs voting No. We're only voting on whether a newco should be allowed into the SPL - what the SFL do after that is out of our hands. I'm starting to come round to the idea of them going into the first division. While it might not be consistent with what would happen to other clubs, a season out of the SPL is still a significant punishment (on top of whatever else they can get to stick) without leaving us completely hamstrung financially.
-
A small point but figures were for SPL so didn't include cup games but I'm still shocked at how low the figure is.
-
Aberdeen have now announced a No vote as well. If we vote No that takes it up to 4 of the 5 required. From Petrie's comments, I expect Hibs to vote No and it wouldn't surprise me if they make an announcement now that there seems to be some momentum.

My nearest SPL ground is. .......... Ibrox! Or is that no longer an SPL stadium?
