  1. Cooper Stand ran out of vouchers so season ticket holders were told they could use them (entitled to all home league games so don't see why not). Others were asked to wait while they got more although there were stewards outside handing them out.
  2. It was up at Arbroath and we were winning 1 nil from a Townsley goal but were about to play into the wind which was affecting the game even more than on Saturday. It's the only time I've seen a ref call the game off due to the wind but I think it's something that needs seriously considered - Saturday's game ended up farcical and a lottery due to the conditions. At Arbroath, I think a few of the local youngsters tried to rile up sections of our support including some of the older faces who turn out for away cup games. The police were completely taken by surprise by a large away support put out the ground early. Consequently they were there in huge numbers with dogs and horses for the midweek game with a small crowd.
  3. Oh well, Queen's Park it is then.
  4. I'm afraid I also used the word underwhelming to friends at the game although it did look a bit better lit up on the way out. In daylight it just makes the stand look as if it needs a good wash. Sounds easy but the cost is in the access - either scaffolding or cherry picker. I assume the budget didn't stretch to that. Maybe it'll grow on me.
  5. A midweek trip to Elgin in mid January for a replay is the stuff nightmares are made of. A midweek trip to Hampden with a few beers is an altogether different prospect. Hopefully it won't come to either!
  6. What was the point in having three trialists playing for us in our last reserve bounce game? I know we don't have much in the way of a budget for January but we must be considering some additions as we surely wouldn't completely waste these guys' time.
  7. The stewards are employed by Aberdeen Football Club and are there to ensure the rules of AFC and the SPL are complied with. The police are there to ensure no laws are being broken. They both have authority but different criteria. If the stewards, as representatives of AFC, ask someone to leave for not complying with their rules and they then refuse to do so then the police can step in as that person has refused to leave private property when asked to do so. Similalry, if someone starts acting up in a pub or club then then the bouncers will "escort you from the premises" - I have no idea what the stewards or bouncers are legally allowed to do in terms of a hands-on approach.
  8. Dirk Lehman scored the other I think. Ferrere's goals were almost identical, being played in on the right and hitting low drilled shots with his right foot.
  9. Nijholt may have filled in at left back but it wasn't the position he was principally known for. I'm fairly perplexed by him having the same amount of votes as Boyd when he was right back to Boyd's left back. Boyd also became a regular international during his time with us. I'm not saying Boyd should be winning the poll but I can't understand how he's level in a poll about left backs with someone who was not even a left back. To be honest, we've not been nearly as well served by our right backs so I'm sure Luc would win a poll for them.
  10. Tom Boyd was most definitely a left back and Nijholt a right back although they may have had spells at sweeper when Tommy was in one of his more defensive moods. I saw Wark play but I'm not old enough to remember much about his performances so it does skew the poll towards more recent players. I'd have to go for Boyd for his steady defending and the rampaging runs after Cooper's arrival. Also, his sliding tackle on Dave McCabe at Cappielow! I like Hammell but I'd also rate McKinnon above him.
  11. I don't think Forbes will be going anywhere. We have a small squad and two central midfielders who pick up bookings and suspensions. There's every chance we'll see Carswell and Forbes playing together later this season.
  12. The talk in the summer was we had used up our budget and any additional signings would be loan deals. We must have come into money or be expecting a sale in January to have scope to make Hughes a deal in January and have trialists on the go. Or were we told porkies in the summer?
  13. I noticed that - I think I was still out celebrating!
  14. I've not seen him in the flesh but if he or his representatives choose to make a video of him then it is out there to be commented on. However if he's on trial I'm quite happy for the coaching staff to make up their own minds after seeing him train. It does seem from his video that he is very right footed with little end product. We've got other one footed players though but it's one of my pet hates which is probably why I picked up on it.
  15. There's a similar but slightly longer video on Pie and Bovril which shows much the same stuff. Strangely for a publicity video it continually shows him getting into a shooting position and then blazing wildly off-target. Admittedly I only watched the first 4 minutes before getting fed up and there were a few one on ones he did score (as he should have) but I thought it was strange to show some of them. He also appears to be incredibly one-footed although that doesn't stop a good few of our team getting a game.
  16. Unfortunately there comes a level where you have to be a certain height as a defender or be absolutely outstanding at every other aspect to make up for it.
  17. Don't forget Accies could still regularly beat us no matter how poor they were.
  18. We can only sell him for what someone is willing to pay. If that's £600k then we'll just have to get on with it or risk an ever diminishing return as the remaining length of his contract reduces.
  19. In the time I've been watching Motherwell, I think we've had the best run of left backs outside the Old Firm. Joe Wark, (ok - maybe forget Derek Murray), Tom Boyd, Rab McKinnon, Stephen McMillan and Stevie Hammell - we've had some incredible contributions from our left backs most of whom have also been pretty attack-minded. As mentioned earlier, it says a lot about Hammell that we played McMillan in front of Hammell as the two of them were too good to leave one of them out.
  20. Enjoyed the highlights but who or what makes the roadrunner sounds when Omar gets a run with the ball? Also, I know it's only highlights but Hughes looked fairly anonymous. Hopefully someone who was at the game can give their thoughts on how he did.
  21. I hope that's not a suggestion we should abandon the current business model to chase success.

    Sportscene

The main problem Sportscene has is i think it is contractually limited to a maximum of 5 minutes per game. OK some games don't need anywhere near that (the 2 saints game highlights were very brief last night) but some games could do with a bit more coverage. By the time they show 5 goals and two efforts off the bar they've got very little time for anything else and the sending off was seen as more controversial than a booking for a dive.
  23. Clancy at RB, Hateley in midfield or 5 at the back?
  24. I remember someone running on but i thought there was a lot of stumbling and very little lamping. In those days though we also had a spate of half-hearted streakers who, I'm pleased to say, kept a surprising amount of clothing on. I remember one gentleman in particular with shoes, calf-length socks and boxer shorts - all black. It wasn't a pertty sight.
  25. Or significantly behind Rangers. But that would be boring - let's just enjoy it while we can.
