  1. While things are up in the air, any points we can get are most welcome. Kelly pulled of two saves of the season, and once again showed the value of a good goalkeeper. Teams are going to get chances at this level, and he's going to win us plenty of points this year. Lamie's tackle was really poor, he was having a really good game and he doesn't tend to leave his feet like that, and it really could have cost us if we were playing against a team that could shoot. I thought Sol was solid enough, but we're really short of pace at the back. Spiers looked nervous, as expected. We probably brought him on to add some legs for the tiring goss (who also had a decent game), which is fair enough, but we ended up overrun. Hopefully we continue to find spots to get youngsters in, they'll be better for it in the long run.
  2. Not much of a difference from us, which isn't a surprise since it's only been a couple of days. We aren't terrible, but still don't have any attacking threat, and could have been a couple down. I hope mcginn is ok, and you have to worry for O'Hara given he's had multiple concussions already. Morris is too tentative, he needs to take a risk, the same goes for shields. The penalty was pretty much a stonewaller, you can't put your arm out like that. Hopefully we don't try and shitfest a 1-0 from here, we need to try for a 2nd. What a fucking save from Kelly, and excellent defending from Sol from the rebound.
  3. Pretty sure Slattery is suspended
  4. Van Veen is the closest we have to someone who might do something exciting, and he has it in him to score from anywhere, but he's falling out of games too easily right now. Tierney has something about him too, where he can find a bit of space and do something positive, but he hasn't found his place in the team yet. Jake Carroll frequently switching from being shit scared of the ball to attempting to murder folk keeps things interesting too.
  5. Absolutely. I miss him everyday. If the EFL wasn't so shite I'd watch Luton.

No managerial appointment is guaranteed at any level, and clubs are way too quick to sack managers thesedays. Results aren't guaranteed, even if you're throwing silly money around, look at Hibs and Aberdeen, who blow us out of the water financially when it comes to attracting players and managers. We also have the problem that if we find someone who works magic, we'll be losing them to someone bigger soon enough. How we conduct our business, both in private and in public, goes a long way to us getting the edge over the other clubs our size, of which there are many. If we start doing a Watford and sacking folk left and right, we'll find ourselves plummeting fast. Our candidate pool is shallow enough as it is, if we get a reputation of expecting miracles on a shite budget and tearing up contracts, we're going to get only the most desperate or inexperienced candidates. Loyalty works two ways. At the time of hiring Alexander we had a choice between him and Tommy Wright. We clearly made the right one, and you can't take Alexander's achievement of saving us from relegation and getting us into Europe away from him, it happened. As shite as other teams were, we still finished above them, we can't apologize for that. It's also clear that he wasn't going to be capable of taking us any further, and was one dimensional in his approach, so leaving now was the right decision. It's worth mentioning that dealing with real human beings in real life is a lot more nuanced than football manager.
  7. It was a diplomatic answer that for me hedged towards "it's total bollocks" more than anything, without throwing Robinson under the bus, which is the grown up professional thing to do. Not denying, just in case we hammer them tomorrow and Robbo is suddenly available and is the best option in front of us (we don't know who's applying). I really don't want it to be Robinson. I'll live with it if it happens and he'll get my full support and the like, but half the fun in supporting a team is new players and managers, even when they are shite. Gannon and Baraclough we're fucking terrible, but they spiced things up a bit at least, allowing us to appreciate the mediocre times. I dont understand why Kevin Thompson is getting any traction with anyone. Barry Ferguson did well with Kelty too, and he's an absolutely terrible manager, and a fud. He doesn't even have the allure of a big player, just another rangers rando that gets support from his media pals. Are there any other lower league managers that we'd look at? I'm all for Hammel and kerr unleashing their one day masterplan tomorrow and throwing the whole thing into turmoil.

Don't see what Kelly said wrong there. Did folk just read the headline? Looking at the stuff on social media for the last year, as well as the aftermath of Thursday, it seems like a valid reason for him to want to leave. Kelly stating what GA told him is fair game. Also funny to see some folk turn on our best player immediately for mentioning toxicity in the fan base, and not seeing an ounce of irony. Alexander has been getting dogs abuse all year, and folk are getting wound up because one person criticized them back.
  11. He's been an assistant for a good while, but that doesn't always translate into management material. He's a bit of a cult figure because he gets excited and batters robbers, he would tick the boxes for people that value shouting and "passion". Maybe he has good contacts? Lambert has a decent record, but I don't know much about his style of play, I have a feeling it's boring and turgid, but I think that's just because he looks like a miserable sod. Simo had an interview last year about being desperate to come manage here, but we've already passed on him once, and I can't imagine he would leave a team that's top of the league. Anyone else who is currently employed will be a non starter for obvious reasons. Then there's the likes of Kevin Thompson and Barry Ferguson who will get their names chucked into articles as a favor from their media pals. I'm pretty sure it will be someone no one has mentioned yet, everyone will be underwhelmed, and there will be one person who will strike up an immediate vendetta against him, with the inevitable "I told you so" three years later.
  12. I doubt we'll set up much differently than we would have otherwise, with essentially one days preparation. The forwards that aren't KVV may switch around as usual, but there's hardly anyone that's being screwed out of a game at the moment. I also wouldn't look into any changes that do happen too much, with it being 3 days after a game there may be some knocks/niggles.
  13. I'm 100% sure the hack just read the P&B thread and saw all the St Mirren fans sarcastically offering Robbo to us, and took it as a story. They'll add some ex rangers diddies to the list over the weekend I'm sure.

Did burrows go immediately from being an unemployed fan to CEO? Every other CEO in history has gone from not being a CEO to being one, why is it such a big deal that Burrows was a fan before being employed by the club? No one is exempt from criticism, but this schtick is a decade old now. Every club has ups and downs on the field, and the fact that we came out of COVID completely stable and able to invest in infrastructure hardly points at the club being a shambles. It wasn't long ago we were in danger of being snapped up by shady foreign money launderers and at real risk of folding. We have a reputation of being one of the better run clubs in the country, and I believe that's earned. Alexander was the right appointment at the time. The alternative took Killie down, while Alexander kept us up and got us 5th. Every manager has a shelf life.
  15. As far as pundits like faddy and craigan go, nope. It's easy for them to spout their opinions on what we're doing wrong, knowing they're not on the hook to do anything about it. Neither have done anything to suggest they're capable of managing at any level. Craigan was great with the u21s, but that was a once in a blue moon crop of players, and a whole different ballgame compared to the senior team.
  16. I think the mutual consent thing usually includes an agreement on compensation. He seems to have initiated the conversation, so I doubt we've paid him and lucketti off fully, but the communication from both parties suggests things were a bit more amicable than punting him with just his bfh.
  17. I'll factor in that O'Donnell has played mostly shite and most of our fans are in agreement on that. He should be able to handle being a full back instead of his preferred wing back role without dropping of from international defender to total liability. I don't think Alexander is good, and our squad is pretty rubbish, and that's pretty much it. I believe they're all trying to win, but just can't, because of not being good. It's tempting to make the whole situation more than what it is, with "losing the dressing room" and "working his ticket" etc, but most of the time it's more simple than that, we're shite.

Can we just start the new manager thread now, for therapy purposes? It can't fail because: 1 - we can build some optimism that there are some decent options out there Or 2 - relize we're doomed and start leaning into it.
  19. While I'm not confident due to how ineffective we were last week, and have been since December, it's still just a one goal deficit. That's just one deflected Barry Maguire shot (from either foot) or ricochet off Joe Efford. We would have expected to win the away leg before all this, and nothing has changed. If we score in the last minute and scrape through via penalties, I don't care at this point. The embarrassment of going out will last longer than GA does. Saying that, it looks like I won't be able to watch it because of work, so have fun.
  20. Nope. I don't think we have the setup to accommodate him. We aren't able to get the best out of our current players who are fit and don't have baggage, so I don't have any confidence in us being the club to turn him around.
  21. Commentator at the last game said he was still injured.
  22. We don't know what is going on behind the scenes regarding SOD other than heresay. Either way, he doesn't offer much of an attacking end product. His does tend to press higher up than Mcginn, but his crossing and attacking play just isn't there. Managers have players who aren't fully fit on the bench all the time, and like for like defensive replacements are generally rare outside of injury/nightmares. So having an experienced player to bring on in a pinch, who may just not be ready for a full 90, can be preferable to an untested youngster in that position. While the current situation isn't great, I think the heat has been getting to a few folks, heads gone with some of these takes.
  23. Because he's our only available left back and by in large has been serviceable there. Mcginn is in front of O'Donnell for one reason or another. If it's fitness, then having them both on is a no go, if it is because GA prefers Mcginn in SODs natural position, firing one over to left back and telling them to deal with it isn't clever, and reeks of desperation more than anything else. If we had any kind of attacking threat we probably wouldn't be focusing on the defence as much. We've got a whole season to play, I'd be very worried of the manager started making knee jerk decisions like this at this point, for a game against Sligo.
  24. Don't see bevis getting dropped, and don't think Sol is much better either. Also don't see us getting much of an opportunity to get in behind, so we may need a bit of invention, which I think is more likely from the attacking mids than from the likes of Shields and Efford. Kelly Mcginn Bevis Lamie Carroll Slattery Maguire Morris Tierney Spittal KVV In reality, it's going to be the same XI.
