And Dan Petrescu was their manager for a couple of years a little while ago. If the Cisse who played at QPR last year turns up, I don't see much to worry about, he was gash!!

he didn't really play for QPR though!! More just turned up and jogged around a little and got more exercise carrying his cash home!!

Didn't realise so many on here had seen so many of their games. Aye, they finished high up their league but so did we. They have Brazilian players? Is there a reason why they're playing for Krasnodar and not in Spain or Germany? Will it be easy? No. Am I ready to write us off? No..

And to think people on here used to slate McCall for talking down our chances ahead of big games...

It's games like this where McManus and Faddy's experience(and quality) could be vital.

In McManus we've got someone who's been through the Champions League group stages on two occasions and Faddy was always one for the big occasions. Two guys who won't be phased by the opposition or the occasion.

Of course it won't be easy but it was never going to be regardless of who we got.

Seriously though, don't see any reason why we can't progress. Will they be that much better than Celtic who we beat twice last season? Aye, hellish journey for our lads but also for theirs.

Their match before the European tie is at Zenit so maybe they will fly in from Leningrad instead of going back to Krasnodar.

When you play in the Russian league traveling long distances is pretty normal, Vladivostock were in the Premier League a couple of years ago which is 4,000 miles from Moscow!

Might be a daft question, but is there any chance of the match being moved from Krasnodar? I know Ruben Kazan played at least some of their games in Moscow, due to "local difficulties". Not up on Russian current affairs, so no idea what the script is in Krasnodar. At least if it was in Moscow it makes it a whole lot more accessible / cheaper due to the fact that there are lots more flights.

Probably not, but we were flying then, with a team who knew each other inside out. This will be the first time the 11 we put out will have played together in a competitive match. I'd wager the Russians are bigger and more physical than Celtic, too, and we always seem to do comparatively poorly against big physical teams.

That said, I agree with you up to a point. I don't expect them to be world beaters, and our team never having played together works in our favour too -- means all the videos of us from last season will be useless to the Ruskies :)

We need to change our signing tactics.........

Nikola Nikezić incident

Nikola Nikezić, a forward from Montenegro, was part of FC Kuban in 2010 and had a valid contract with the club until November 2011. However, in early 2011, FC Kuban decided they want to buy different players in his position and tried to force him to dissolve the contract by mutual consent. When he refused, he was beaten up by unknown persons, allegedly with ties to the Russian mafia, at the club office to force him to sign the contract dissolution papers.[2] After being beaten for 20 minutes, by two armed men, he did sign the paperwork.[2] He filed a complaint with FIFApresident Sepp Blatter couple of days after the incident, with attached photos of bruises sustained during the beating.[3][4] Eventually FIFPro (International Federation of Professional Footballers), with the assistance of Russian Football Union, forced the club to pay Nikezić a compensation of 180,000 euros.[5]

Krasnador drew with Rubin Kazan on Sunday past. Rubin Kazan were the team that knocked out Levante at the last 16 stage last year (agg 2-0) then beaten by Chelsea in QFs. So they are pretty good then :whistling:

Past performance is no indication of future performance.
