stevie_mfc Posted September 22, 2014 Report Share Posted September 22, 2014 I think its down how we play on the plastic park, the times we have played on it so far doesn't fill me with confidence however hopefully the players are still hurting from the disaster there last season and go out to prove a point! There will be some changes from Sunday because we surely have to be more attack minded in this game. I would start with Ainsworth and Ojamaa to put a bit of pace in the team, but i have no idea who to leave out. I do have a sneaky suspicion McCall might be tempted to leave out McManus though because if i remember right he struggled to train all week after the killie game on a similar surface, but thats just a wee feeling i have. Having watched my nephew play on that surface last week, similar to clips I've seen & our previous visit, the ball does not run true no matter how they dress it up as 'the future' & it is an advantage given they prepare on it daily. With regards the match, already read of a Hamilton player quoting 'a rivalry' that for me and plenty others doesn't exist. I'd wager our players feel the same. Noisy neighbours best describes a support that would rather our team lost than their own win. Nae chips on their shoulder that lot, it's the whole casino they've got. The persecutory delusions of living in the shadow of the mould firm is further compounded by the notion that as many, if not more Motherwell supporters reside there & travel across the M74 in search of their football fix. If we don't win his coat will be on a shoogly peg for a lot of the fans that is for sure. It will take McCall to walk though as the club wouldn't sack him I don't think. This is a very important game for everyone - club, fans, McCall - we need it to jumpstart our season into life. So....I think we will find our scoring boots: Hamilton 1 v 3 Motherwell I posted my team earlier in the thread but I do like the look of Kmac's too. Straying slightly off topic here but the whole 'McCall must go' chat we recently had and the comment of MJC strikes me very much of the Jimmy Calderwood/Aberdeen era. Calderwood gave Aberdeen 5 years of league consistency at the top end of table but eventually got the boot due to effectively not doing well in the cup competitions (1 uefa cup run aside). A few years under McGhee and Brown followed with little success and scrabbling around at the bottom of the table. I'll be pleasantly surprised if we win this one given Accies form, home advantage and the fact they play on what must be the worst artificial surface in Europe. I'd certainly take last 2 seasons' final league positions over a League Cup semi-final or similar, but then again I probably still haven't got over the shellacking we took in our last CIS Cup Final. Our cup showings of late have been dreadful and we can’t afford to let that continue. With that in mind I am hopeful we can stop the cup rot with a hard fought 2-1 victory. Mon the Well! To play devil's advocate....since McCall has been in charge we have had a: 2010/11: SC Final 2010/11: LC Semi Final (down to Craig Brown admittedly) 2011/12: SC Quarter Finals 2013/14: LC Quarter Finals That's not too bad for a team our size I would say BUT it's the the other 4 campaigns where we got papped out in near enough the first rounds with poor performances that sticks in our memories and needs to be rectified this year Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I disagree that defeat tonight would see McCalls jacket on a shoogly peg. And nor should it. However, I think a good cup run is well over due and would be a much needed shot in the arm for enthusiasm for the fans. I sense a flatness at the moment (hence the lack of response to a frankly excellent point at Parkhead on Sunday)but all that can change with a couple of wins. That said, I would rather lose tonight then be put out in the next round by Rangers! In short, we need a win tonight and 4 points from the next 2 league games.
