Every other result went our way in the end. Top 6 achieved with virtually no stress. Now the race for Europe!!!! For long periods I thought we were at least in the Play Offs. So the relief at watching the relegation battle from safety is huge. We've also had Ross County twice so we should have two home games against St.Johnstone and Hearts but as we all know it doesn't always work out that way. Even if we lose all five games we will get no less than the sixth place prize money. If we had ended up in the bottom six we could have been looking at the prize money for seventh to tenth. Hopefully this will allow us to keep the players we want and replace those we don't with a good standard of player. Onwards and upwards. Very much so Iain. The first advantage of finishing in the top six is certainty, which is always important in a business context. There is no threat of relegation now and the lowest we can finish is sixth - the club will know the prize money on offer for that. Compare this to last season where we didn't even know what league we'd be playing in until the end of May. This will allow us to crack on with signing plans for next season, stealing a march on bottom six clubs. Secondly, cashflow. Bottom six clubs don't receive their payout until about August due to the uncertainty of their final league position. Top six clubs receive a partial payout in the next few weeks (based on finishing 6th/7th as a minimum) with the residual amount being paid in August. Thirdly, total income. I think a place is worth £80 - £100k. Ok we deduct an amount for bonuses, but even assuming the most pessimistic scenario of finishing 6th that should give us a wee bit more. In terms of games, we don't yet know how the fixtures will pan out. However although St Johnstone and Ross County won't bring many to Fir Park neither would Inverness or Accies. Aberdeen or Hearts will bring more than Dundee, Partick or certainly Dundee United now. I'm sure there are also other financial advantages. How many times have you seen on here or heard supporters query where the money from the good times like Europe, the Scottish Cup Final and the second place finishes went. The fact is that a fair proportion of it was swallowed up in the form of bonus money to players because the club honoured a structure at a time when one of biggest clubs disappeared from the league along with the additional finance monies from games with them brought. You can argue the point whether that was right or wrong but that was the scenario. I do think though that those who were on such deals at that time have either moved on, or are different contracts so the concern isn't as pressing as it might have been two or three seasons ago. Well done to the manager and players turning around a season that looked destined for a bottom 4 scrap. As other have said, we can now hopefully plan ahead for next season and step up negotiations with identified targets. On the park, hopefully we keep our foot on the gas and finish 4th. Best of the rest finishes for 3 seasons in a row, welcome yet unprecedented for a team of our resources and stature, almost rooked us due to the success on the park ironically. A decent finish this year 3rd/4th will make a significant positive entry in the balance sheet from what was forecast last summer I expect.
