Plenty of intensity, energy and good, exciting, football on the deck. Such a change from GA's reign. Good to see young lads like Lennon Miller get their chance and Stuart McKinstry coming home and performing well. A good all round team effort. I was impressesd with McGinn and especially Penney. Midfield created plenty of chances, Van Veen was in the mood, Tierney really caught the eye (needs to improve his finishing though), and Efford was a revelation on the wing. The caveat is, of course, that we were playing an out of form Championship side. Still you can only beat the team in front of you. Penney looks to be a particularly good acquisition and Stuart McKinstry caught the eye with some really nice play. Not sure about the second penalty but our general style and standard of play last night brought them about. In any event, ICT were a shade fortunate not to pick up more yellow cards and possibly a red, so they can't complain too much. I have to agree wth El Grew though. We should have scored 7 or 8, but lacked a killer touch in the box, which was concerning and Stevie Hammell picked up on this in his post match comments. It wasn't costly against ICT last night but it could be against better quality opposition. TBF they started the league campaign well, both got goals against Hibs (3-0) and then the following week same again against Hearts (3-2) at Tynecastle but sadly the decline would be quick heading into October. They rested several players last night yet were able to bring in the likes of Turnbull, Forrest, Siegrist, Starfelt, Mooy. That is incredible squad depth. The way they play is very difficult for the rest of the league to live with, they are fast paced and press high up the park for almost the entire 90 minutes. That being said though, there has definitely been a mentality issue from us when facing them and the other Glasgow lot over the past decade. Even when Celtic were at their worst in years in 20/21 and with no support in to give them a vocal advantage we still couldn’t lay a glove on them and lost 3-0, 4-1 and 2-1. This is exactly my thoughts exactly, would like to see us turn up at Fir Park and give both these mobs a game this season , even if it is a 2-1 defeat in the last minute it would still be better than some of the 4,5,6 goal defeats we have seen in recent seasons Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It was desperately needed and is essential when going up against the big 2. Celtic do look quite formidable right now. To have any chamce of success we will need to try and match their work rate. Thankfully our fitness levels seem to be improving, and with the number of young players now coming into the squad, hopefully we have the replacements from the bench to maintain that level over 90 mins.
