Paton is an okay midfielder without really specialising in anything. He doesn't do the dirty dogged midfield work, he doesn't play defence splitting passes, he doesn't carry the ball particularly well, and his finishing is poor. He's missed some chances in the past month or two that Spittal would devour.

He's decent and tidy and links the play, but that's about it.

I see where your coming from but I do feel he can do all the things you say he can't , however he doesn't do it often enough hence he's at us.  All about opinions as always  but a cracker I read on twitter today a well fan saying he'd drop spittall tomorrow. I mean he's easily our best player and I think anyone can see he's playing with a huge level of confidence at the moment. Some of his 1 touch pass and move is exceptional. Also Bair on Wed was rolling his foot over ball etc again confidence surging through him. It's a huge plus in players and emphasises points a lot make about being supportive.

I'm with you Grizzly but I'd have halliday and miller sitting with Spittal and vale behind bair. Vale looks as if he's got something. Davor and paton as back up gives us bit of depth in there.

Spittal is another under valued.  Now yes I gave him dogs abuse at Alloa game due to his corners being poor but his assists and goals record superb.   We all have our favourite players and ones we like to criticise, as long as it's done in the right manner it's all healthy

Let's do this tomorrow

His corners were (shiter than normal) in the Alloa game though!

Surely that's enough? As long as he does those things and keeps it simple, the other midfielders can try all of the fancy stuff.

Yeah absolutely enough, if he could carry the ball and finish he'd be somewhere other than Motherwell.

You regularly tell people not to boo players (which I agree with), I don't see how happily admitting you give Spittal dogs abuse is any better.

Talking about criticism, if Sod,s, starts tomorrow, he get a doing before the games even started. Yet Bevis is a nightmare most weeks, but because he had a gangly wander up the wing, he's a top player. Anyway hopefully we can deal with the high balls into the box. Would if we keep playing Butcher, get Mcginn to right side and bring in Casey on the left as the ever steady Mcginn hasn't been settling the heather on fire on the left. Thing we will score but can we keep them out, time will tell.

I probably worded it badly, I wasn't giving him dogs abuse. Just pelters due to his corners being poor. Don't worry Karma came back to bite me when he scored that free kick 😜😜

I think that Gent has been better with McGinn on the left. I also think he gets up the park in support better than Casey.

Regarding SOD, totally agree.

Mcginns first job is to defend and stop goals, not support Gent. Was at fault for goals against Morton and Aberdeen, so only my opinion, but if we stop leaking goals, especially poor ones, we might win!!!!.

Don’t disagree with you there but Casey and every other defender have been at fault  for us losing poor goals this season - not just down the left.
My point was more that with him behind Gent, Gent has been better, that has led to us getting goals - and that might get us some wins.
We both have valid views for not playing/playing him there.

Agree that our defence needs changes and that McGinn hasn't been as effective on the left. At the moment though I'd say both Butcher and Mugabi have been poor. Who do we drop? McGinn didn't look clever with the goals that Morton and Aberdeen scored but he wasn't solely responsible by any means.

All about opinions, but I have to disagree, I think Paton brings far more to the team than Davor, although they do play completely different roles.

TBH I don't get the love in  with Davor, sure he is enthusiastic, runs about a lot, gives multiple high 5s to team mates and is tidy enough on the ball, however imo not physically strong enough, and not on the ball enough to influence a game. If all our midfield players are fit Davor is the one I would have on the bench, Halliday and Miller play that role much more effectively.

Fair do's pal.  Respect your opinion. I like Davor and Paton.  Once all midfielders fit it's a tough call for SK

I like both players. Both tidy footballers. My perception is that Davor gives the ball away less under pressure. But that might just be my perception. You have piqued my interest though. Im gonna make a point of paying particular attention to both today.

What I would say is that they are both decent enough midfielders for our level and if we had a defence that didnt leak stupid goals (like the end of last season) we wouldnt be having this discussion as we would be focussing on the positives of what each brings to the table.

We now have some half decent midfielders and choices will have to made once, or more probably if, they are all fit. I like Paton as he adds energy to midfield, something we badly need. Davor isn't bad, although like Clackscat, I think he's a bit lightweight and struggles a bit in midfield battles.

I think we still lack a leader in there - I haven't seen enough of Halliday to really assess him. If we have a weakness, its that we still lack someone there with a real bit of fight and backbone. That deficiency is most evident when we're being attacked and the midfield seemingly sits too deep providing, little cover for our much maligned defence.  In recent games we've seen opponents swarm in and around our own box just a little too easily. I maybe being unfair though. Is that down to individual players or tactics/instructions from management?

It's probably a bit of both. As you say, we lack a leader to step up in the middle when the going gets tough, but we also appear to lack a plan B when that happens, which is on the manager. It's a perfect storm of shit, and we've seen it play out all too often. Conversely, scoring lots of goals isn't a problem anymore, so we'll likely see out the season maintaining our 1.04 points per game stat. I think we're looking at a draw at best today.

Record: 5-11-9, 26 points (1.04 per game), 7th

Home Record: 4-4-5, 16 points Away Record: 1-7-4, 10 points

Goals: 35 (1.40 per game), Goals: 39 (1.56 per game), Diff: -4

Be interested in your thoughts and I hope its along the lines of 'that Clackscat fella is talking nonsense, Davor was outstanding today' cause no matter my opinion of any player I want them to be terrific for us, enjoy the game!

No Spittal today? Injured I take it? That’s a hammer blow if that’s the case.

The undroppable Captain Fantastic and Paton keep their places.

That team is going to get fucking hammered today.

4-0 Hearts.

Your repeated use of swearing, dilutes your opinion, hopefully the moderators will card you for your language. Reading a lot of your posts, it appears to be that you are undroppable from this forum, despite your foul language. Language Timothy!!!!
