Our New Manager, who do we want?

Imagine the seethe should the club announce Frail to the end of the season at 5pm on Friday. Then again, I suppose that scenario could be acceptable(?) should the club have an identified preferred candidate who can’t start until the summer.

Brief progress update:

Filtered the 100 applications to a short list.

Started talking to the candidates.

Not in a position to announce yet.

Can't set a timeline because it depends on availability of people for interviews and how long it takes to sort out contracts.

More important to get the right person in than a person in quickly.

I just made that up, but that's the kind of progress report you would get. Saying nothing, because there's not much worth saying until a contract has been signed.

Motherwell announcing Stevie Frail as the new manager will have the same vibes about it as the SFA announcing Collum would be the new Head of Refereeing

Willie Collum has been appointed Head of Refereeing at the Scottish FA following an extensive recruitment process.

The Scottish FA and global sports recruitment experts Elevate Talent compiled a list of experienced applicants from four different continents. Willie’s experience, leadership responsibilities within the Scottish education system, understanding of the Scottish football landscape and resilience made him the outstanding candidate.

Ian Maxwell, Scottish FA Chief Executive said: “When we announced that Crawford was leaving at the end of the season the board and senior team were clear that we would leave no stone unturned in getting the best candidate for a job that has become significantly more demanding with the arrival of VAR.

“We had applications from experienced candidates across the UK, Europe, North America, Asia and Australia. It is to Willie’s great credit that he emerged as the outstanding candidate from such a strong international field.

Have a feeling that Frail is going to get the gig the longer this plays out sure things have came to light that might be delaying the appointment but you just get those vibes.

I shall be honest I just can't get on board with this if it happens just seems like more of the same what we have been served up.

Feels like if you are interested in a shot at managing us you just need to take any coaching role going then wait your turn.

Liverpool built a dynasty using that approach.

With no insight whatsoever, I suspect it will be a new face. Frail always strikes me as someone who much prefers assistant roles or coaching roles to being the man in charge.

(So you can expect the "Frail signs for 3 more years" announcement in a couple of hours)

I am too much of a maverick a forward thinker to to even be considered for the Motherwell role plus I would embrace getting called every name under the sun as a compliment.

I don't wish to make any further comment at this time thank you.

It's been less than two weeks. If they found the right man on day 1 it could easily take 2 weeks for lawyers, agents, managers and the candidate to hammer out the contractual details.

We have been a lot less leaky with stuff recently. I'd see that as a good thing.

Not sure what info the club is going to put out other than that we're reviewing/interviewing candidates. Pretty sure it takes a few weeks usually.

The initial names that came out would have been from those guys' agents, making sure the names were out there while people were paying attention.

Also, the Scottish sports media will be focusing on other more sensational things right now to be hounding our dinner lady to find out who's been stopping by.

You reckon?

Anyone who thinks it won’t be Frail until the end of the season is dreaming.

I may be dreaming -  A couple of points to challenge your foregone conclusion.

1) Does Frail  want the role ? It's not been obvious if he does.
2) It would have been easier to announce that by now.

He may get the gig short term I'm struggling as it's not often that managers leave at the end of the season, that's more a players contract.

Think it's more probable the club didn't see this coming and it takes time to run a recruitment process and get the right hire  - which is a bit boring for us fans but reasonable none the less.

I see from the BBC that St Mirren are having an 'unforgettable' season. Shame we're having a totally shite disaster of a season with relegation looming.  If only we were up there with them. Hopefully the new manager can get us up the league to compete with the likes of them.

I think part of the unforgettable part was referring to the 3 court cases in a few days they experienced

Hi Folks,  what's everyone's holiday plans this year? Anything exciting?

Just looking for some chat seeing as hee haw rumours on manager front.

Just back from 2 weeks in Tenerife. Had the pleasure of the 2nd StJ and Tims games while there. I contacted the press to say I was ruling myself out of the managers job, but it must have been in the papers before I got home cause I never saw any mention.

Should the title of the thread be updated to "Our new manager who do we want and when do we want him ?"   Longest search ever. What's the betting we find the answer is the equivalent of "down the back of the couch" with Stevie Frail

Hardly... our average for recent appointments is 16 days, McCall took 20, Barraclough took 41.

Maybe our new inexperienced board and WS reps etc are actually doing their due diligence going through each application instead of lining the forms up and using the good guy, good guy, w**k approach to sift out the dross first.

Without the numbers in front of me, 3 weeks seems to be about normal for new appointments, with some taking longer. The surprise nature of SKs departure, and the CEO reportedly mourning the loss of a close family member not long after, probably slows things down too.

If we are still interviewing, I'd guess we're at least a week away, but we've been less leaky since Caldwell came in (or others left), so who knows?

We're not guaranteed to get this appointment spot on, but at least we're doing our due diligence to get close.

We're still in a relatively good position, with decent points on the board and our better players coming back from the dead (I'm sure someone is crocking themselves as I write this), and woth the new appointment getting the checkbook for a rebuild I'm the summer, we need to take our time and be careful.

I'm not going on holiday, don't want to risk not being allowed back in.

I'm involved in recruiting at the moment. While I'm not a football club, we always estimate about 3 months from start to finish to get someone in. Less if we hire someone currently out of work.
