Kmcalpin
Was out tonight so haven't seen any of the game, but comments on here about individual players and deficiencies in the squad were ones we were making several weeks ago eg lack of firepower up front, need to bolster central defence, soft midfield and lack of decent full/wing backs. Still JBA has now seen them for himself.

No one knows what the injury to Ox is this time. It was a broken thumb last time. There's been nothing yet to indicate it was the same injury re occurring Ox also played again at the end of last season so it looks like he recovered from that thumb injury Apparently sometimes managers talk shite. This from a guy that left us a week later. Thought it was a stupid excuse why we kept playing him at the time. I can't beloved we signed a contract with loanee Balcome to gaurentee him games. Over our own better keeper once he was fit and Balcome was obviously playing rubbish. Don't think Ox was ever really fully fit.

It's their first game of season in sweltering heat against a well established side. Only shock is folk aren't calling for JB to leave......yet Keep the faith folks That’s a bit unfair to those of us who try to offer constructive comments, acknowledging it’s just the first pre-season game but still flagging recurring issues. Without that, what’s the point of this forum?

Without that, what’s the point of this forum? Constructive criticism is absolutely fine and it's always healthy debate. I just find it frustrating that after one game there are all these concerns. JB needs time to assess all the squad then work out what is needed and who isn't up to standard required COYW

Given the playing out from the back pantomime I think the comments were pretty mooted and I wonder what you would have thought watching it. . And most folk did qualify it being first game etc etc. I guess folk just expected a bit more encouragement having been starved of proper football for a wee while.. Wasn't home from work in time, would have been frustrated and again the constructive criticism is totally OK, it's just the doom and gloom comments that really frustrate me. 4 4 2 is encouraging but obviously we don't know if that will be the standard set up.... COYW Why did you not throw a sickie , to watch the first game of the season free on you tube. Then we could have taken your comments seriously. There's no time for partime supporters on here don't you know. Will be expecting you to phone in with a bout of pneumonia for the next friendly. Then do a full in depth match report. 1
Kmcalpin
Twente are a decent team and so I wouldn't read much into the result. It was a chance to build up gametime end of. We are short of bodies, maybe the right bodies, in critical areas and that will be rectified as JBA settles in. My main concern just now is that we're woefully short up front with the first League Cup game looming. OK the group stage will involve lower league opposition but we can't afford slip ups. Its a good chance to fill our coffers by progressing in the tournament and its one of only two realistic chances for us to win a trophy. thewelllfan
That game should highlight to the new manager what he needs to add to his squad. We need to add more pace in the wide areas as well as a ST before the cup games but sure this is probably something the new gaffer is already looking at. Though Watt in the middle looked decent handled the ball well and Miller absolutley strolled it. Was 1-0 when majority of the senior players were on against a decent side. sinjy
The tactic of a defender taking a by kick and passing it to the goalie boils my piss. By definition the goalie is the worst outfield player in the team and if we continue with that tactic we will lose crazy goals. Also having the goalie standing 40 yard off his line will lead to someone scoring from their own half. Twente tried a long range shot in the second half but it was a poor effort. I think the manager is in for a rude awakening when the real stuff starts.

It's almost as if teams with 30,000 fans can bring in better players than teams with 4,000 fans. FC Twente would challenge Rangers and Celtic in our league. They are miles and miles ahead of most Scottish teams. When our league campaign kicks off we will mostly be playing teams of a much lesser level. Anyone reading anything into this match has a seriously high regard of Scottish football.

I agree as always we will be judged on how we perform against the teams at our own level in the Premiership and at a lower level in the league cup games.. Jonesy
I wonder if the Twente fans pissed their pants this much over drawing 2-2 with us last summer, before going on to finish 5th in the Eredivisie? Falkirk lost to Edinburgh City at the weekend and they've probably stayed more sane than most of the folk on here.

The over-the-top jibes aimed at those of us who dare to use a fans’ forum to offer balanced criticism and praise of the team are pathetic. It’s a tired, lazy trope at this point.
Spit_It_Out
One things for sure I liked what I was seeing you can sort of see already how we are wanting to play it will only get better as time goes on with everything else. Love how vocal JBA is on the touchline giving out orders what's he wants from first to last minute. So all in all once this group is upto speed, few new faces we will be grand.

Expected better" (Albeit as part of a much more sensible post) "In for a rude awakening when the real stuff starts" All sound pretty pant pissy to me.

I don't think it is a balanced criticism based on the evidence in front of us. Its the managers first game (he has been in place a couple of weeks) we have lost quite a few players (thank god in some cases) he has a couple of new signings, we aren't fit, we are playing against a FAR superior team in every single aspect, he wont know his best team or formation and he will bring in his own players given time, some of the doomsday comments already on here has hit a new low. These games are about trying things and experimenting, nothing can be drawn from them!!!! So if the perfomances are the same in mid October, then fair enough.

Who’s pissed their pants or gone insane? The shrieking from some over fair criticism on a fans forum is laughable. Fans care whether it’s the first game of the season or the last. Plenty of people raised valid points about issues that were glaringly obvious last night. The fact they’ve carried over from last season makes them even more worth calling out, without being labelled an insane bed-wetter for doing so. Many of these people also praised aspects, and almost every one of them avoided direct criticism of the brand new manager.
