Good wingers, the kind we never seem to sign these days.

It's almost as if teams with 30,000 fans can bring in better players than teams with 4,000 fans.

FC Twente would challenge Rangers and Celtic in our league.  They are miles and miles ahead of most Scottish teams.

When our league campaign kicks off we will mostly be playing teams of a much lesser level.

Anyone reading anything into this match has a seriously high regard of Scottish football.

My brother said exactly the same when we were talking about it earlier on that they are comparable with Celtic and Rangers

I agree as always we will be judged on how we perform against the teams at our own level in the Premiership and at a lower level in the league cup games..

I wonder if the Twente fans pissed their pants this much over drawing 2-2 with us last summer, before going on to finish 5th in the Eredivisie?

Falkirk lost to Edinburgh City at the weekend and they've probably stayed more sane than most of the folk on here.

Who’s pissed themselves or gone insane on here?

The over-the-top jibes aimed at those of us who dare to use a fans’ forum to offer balanced criticism and praise of the team are pathetic. It’s a tired, lazy trope at this point.

One things for sure I liked what I was seeing you can sort of see already how we are wanting to play it will only get better as time goes on with everything else.

Love how vocal JBA is on the touchline giving out orders what's he wants from first to last minute.

So all in all once this group is upto speed, few new faces we will be grand.

"Defensively worryingly bad"

"Miles off it, nowhere near the level"

"Verging on embarrassing"

"Looked awful"

"Worrying signs already at this early stage"

"Players X,Y,Z shouldn't be anywhere near the first team"

"Chasing shadows"

"Early days but uninspiring. Expected better" (Albeit as part of a much more sensible post)

"In for a rude awakening when the real stuff starts"

All sound pretty pant pissy to me.

I don't think it is a balanced criticism based on the evidence in front of us.

Its the managers first game (he has been in place a couple of weeks) we have lost quite a few players (thank god in some cases) he has a couple of new signings, we aren't fit, we are playing against a FAR superior team in every single aspect, he wont know his best team or formation and he will bring in his own players given time, some of the doomsday comments already on here has hit a new low.

These games are about trying things and experimenting, nothing can be drawn from them!!!!

So if the perfomances are the same in mid October, then fair enough.

I ask again. Who’s pissed their pants or gone insane?

The shrieking from some over fair criticism on a fans forum is laughable. Fans care whether it’s the first game of the season or the last.

Plenty of people raised valid points about issues that were glaringly obvious last night. The fact they’ve carried over from last season makes them even more worth calling out, without being labelled an insane bed-wetter for doing so.

Many of these people also praised aspects, and almost every one of them avoided direct criticism of the brand new manager.

They are no where near standard of old firm. Remember we beat Rangers too not long ago so we shouldn't accept mediocrity. Lack of pace throughout our team is my main concern.

I'm really not interested in how Twente played, good or bad,  this season or last. And I could not care less about Falkirk or Edinburgh City. All of whom were, like us, playing their first game of the season. So all the same qualifications apply.

What I am interested in is Motherwell and I expected more from them yesterday, even with all those valid comments about first game, new Manager, opposition, new tactics etc etc. And that's fair comment. Or am I and others not allowed to say we were disappointed in what we saw? Not overly concerned, but disappointed.  Rightly or wrongly I expected more.

The performance of our experienced defenders was poor and they looked far from comfortable at being asked to play out from the back, with Ward also struggling supporting as sweeper. Midfield and up front we looked ponderous, with little link up play. Lack of pace all over the pitch. Little threat up front.  I challenge anyone who watched the game to say my assessment was wrong. .

The youngsters that came on performed well, which also highlighted how off it the first choices were. But for me those youngsters were the only positive yesterday.  Again that fact raises questions.

And the budget available to the opposition is irrelevant. At times last season those same players performed well against opposition with far greater resources than us. Even when playing against superior opposition,  I came away from some games feeling we had did ourselves justice., despite losing.  Not yesterday.

Will we improve? Most definitely. Am I saying we will struggle this season? No . Did I expect more from our established players? Yes. Will the new Manager be more aware now of the challenges he faces? Undoubtedly.

The criticism posters are getting for raising valid points is nonsense.

It's the first game against decent opposition - with a Motherwell team that's obviously needing strengthened particularly up front - plus we are missing our goalie. I'm not advocating for accepting mediocrity but Im not unduly concerned at this point either.

Understand - but it's the same every season and we always get there in the end

Just because we’ve “got there” in the past doesn’t mean that we will get there this time around.

The reality is that we are probably due to be relegated, overdue perhaps. I am not one of these Motherwell fans who sees us as this tinpot nonentity that are smaller than clubs like Falkirk, Dunfermline, Morton etc and who no doubt would be in favour of us merging with Accies “for the good of the Scottish game” and all that nonsense…but given the level we operate at the budget available to us and that clubs who are undoubtedly bigger than us have been relegated more than once during our 40 year stay in the top flight then it’s inevitable sooner or later.

Looking at our current situation, a poor squad bloated with guff and devoid of quality and a manager in place who - in my opinion - was the wrong choice of appointment and won’t last the season with us then that for me points to this season finally being the one where we are relegated.

We will end up relegated at some point but with Falkirk, Livi, Steven Presley's Dundee and (dare I say it) Stuart Kettlewell's Kilmarnock in the league it won't be this season.

If you can at least accept relegation will happen at some point you'd be as well trying to  enjoy it and have a bit of fun with it now and then rather than being a constant fucking misery.

And literally every season - at some point in the season- you have us getting relegated.

2nd July however must be your record?

Apart from all the examples listed, no one. You're right.

If this is you confusing critique with pissing your pants, I dread to think what toilet time looks like for you.

I'm thinking about adding a pre-qualification question requirement before posting:

"Do you understand the difference between a competitive match and a non-competitive pre-season friendly?"
