Hollis & Kaven were horrendous as well

I also think @grumpy is being overly kind to Woods, maybe not the worst but a horror bag of a keeper

I didn't say he was good just not the worst we have had before or since.  For me, and most of my age group, John Gardner wins that vote by a distance. His very name still causes me to break out in a cold sweat.

For someone labelled as a shite keeper, Stevie woods has had a decent post playing career as goalkeeping coach at Celtic. So maybe hes not as bad as we remember.

All goalkeepers make mistakes that prove costly. I think Woods suffered in that his errors seemed to come when the pressure was on in high profile games which we then went on to lose. So they stick in our mind. Not our best ever keeper by a long way but far from our worst. Some others that have been mentioned had no right calling themselves goalkeepers.

It’s a thankless task though. Was at Easter Road last night  and the Hibs goalie let in two he should have saved…one an absolute howler… so looked to have sold the tie. Nowhere to hide and fans screaming for him to be subbed. Second half and in extra time he kept Hibs in it with three or four tremendous saves when they were being overrun. Left the pitch a hero. Had they lost he would have been slaughtered and possibly dropped.

I genuinely don't think he was as bad as some people thought he was,

He had his moments, of course, but was at least at decent shot stopper. Something Gardiner struggled with on his best days.

Aye, I mentioned Gardiner again - he was THAT bad.

That's true. And fans remember keeper howlers that cost a goal much longer than they remember strikers' howling misses that also cost a goal.

I was trying to remember who the other goalie we had at that time was and I saw Scott Howie mentioned in the managers thread. Turns out Woods wasn't even the worst keeper we had at the club when he was playing for us, never mind an all time worst.

Scott Howie was largely good for us after a bit of a shaky start. He was even on the verge of a Scotland call up during his final season with us IIRC and deservedly kept Woods out of the team imo. He had a much better command of the box than Woods did and the defenders in front of him seemed to have more confidence in him.

Stevie Woods was/is a decent guy and clearly the top goalkeeping coach in the country, but as an actual goalkeeper he was a bombscare. He was hopeless at decision making, his distribution was terrible and he was forever being beaten at his near post. He was good at saving penalties though so perhaps that was an indicator of his ability to read players when he had the time to think about it that has gone on to serve him well in his coaching career.

Vietnam flashbacks!!!!!! Gardiner v Hearts 😢

……. And Stevie Woods was a terrible keeper, only goalie I ever saw who made the goals look bigger for a striker…. but apparently a good coach and a decent guy.

Cant believe more folk dont have Tommy Coyne in their teams!!!!!!!

I loved that guy, had zero pace but was a fantastic footballer.

Id also put Rab Mckinnon against any of our left backs, again, he was fantastic in my eyes.

Also, Randolph for me is the best keeper we have had

I loved watching Coyne play and from recollection he played so well for us he got an NI call up

Great that they got Falconer and we got Cobra Coyne. Would never trade. Great commentary too. We got him from Tranmere Rovers and he was a joy to watch. 👍👊

I was always amazed we kept him for so long. He'd be gone in a year if he played that well for us now.
