They were my 2 main conclusions from tonight.
-
Hopefully some more incomings during the upcoming week. Need Our current squad to step up and get us thru the away leg and then up the quality of the squad for the Q3 round. Fingers crossed 馃

Relieved we seem to have resumed in similar fashion to last season, despite fielding some very young players and new signings who are just bedding in. Aside from the excellent displays by Fads and Oscar, I thought Booth looked comfortable for a young 'un and Vogt had a much better night on the right, although both he and Said should have scored in the second half to put the tie beyond reasonable doubt. At least our new manager seems fully aware of the difficulties of the away tie, so I expect no complacency next week. Our defence can only get better with more games and I thought Moorman and Reich were fine. Williams looked very comfortable and Wilson was stronger than I expected. He might develop further under this manager given more minutes, which might boost his confidence. Time will tell. I know HB might not be the strongest opponents but you can only play the side in front of you and Hibs and Hearts seem to have produced typically disappointing first leg performances. COYW!

Fadinger & Sparrow both played well. I was also impressed with Mikey Booth who didnt look out of place at all. But MOTM was Oscar. He really stepped up and put in a dominant performance both going forward and recovering the ball at the back.
-
Fadinger. Class act. He and Priestman were head shoulders above the rest.
-
I was unsure what to expect tonight but in the end I thought there was an obvious difference in ability between the teams. That's not to say they did not give us some nervy moments. I thought Fadinger was a class apart tonight. Preistman was excellent and will provide must needed continuity from last season. Said was characteristically frustrating. His end product is awful at times.. I had the fear about Vogt given the slating he got last week but looks like there is a player there after all. I think 3-0 would have made the perfect night but as it is the tie is still very much alive. Hibs showed what can happen so altogether a very satisfying evening.
-
Priestman. He鈥檚 stepped up.
- Today

MOTM, who played the most above my expectation. Ewan 'Bloody' Wilson

Oscar was brilliant tonight, he gets my vote . Fadinger was excellent, also pleased with Moorman, Williams, Reich and Paulsen. that tonight was way better than I expected.
-
Hindsight is a great thing, sitting last night in the wee hours thinking about this game and how they would consider us as opponents? what threat are we to them? Like the Alan Moore's Watchmen quote "I'm not locked in with you, you're locked in with me!" We are the big team, and it showed, not perfect, but perfectly acceptable.
-
And probably to Castle Grayskull, unfortunately.
-
He is the whipping boy. I don't get it. He done just fine tonight. I love Said and his enthusiasm but he made more mistakes yet gets less criticism
-
I thought Wilson was fine too. I think he comes under more scrutiny because of some previous performances, but he did OK in a makeshift defence.
-
His predictions are just fine, leave him alone. When wins are predicted we are f***ed 馃ぃ馃ぃ
-
Went for Williams as he looked good when he was on the wing and probably because I expect Priestman and Fadinger to play at that level - although they both had a few stray passes which a better team would have caused us bother with.
-
I'm not sure why Ewan Wilson is being picked on tonight, I wasn't too impressed with him under Kettlewell, and I presume JBA didn't fancy him either, but he got forward well tonight and linked up with Williams on several occasions, and when he moved to centre half when Longello came on he looked comfortable playing the ball out. He will be third choice behind Longello and Williams on the left, and may fall further down the pecking order depending on signings, but he looked ok tonight.

Motherwell vs Havnar B贸ltfelag (23/7) Discussion
Great Balls of Shire replied to David's topic in Club Chat
Have we to bookmark this as we had to with last game v Hibs? -
Don鈥檛 quite understand the comments on Wilson - from my view he had a solid game and had some good interchanges with Williams in attacking sense. Noticeable that manager kept him on the pitch for the whole game and trusted him in central role when Longelo came on. he might not be starter ahead of Longelo / Williams but nothing I saw gave me the fear.
-
I think Joe was signed from Irvine Vics and what a player he was defensively, with those India rubber legs; rarely booked and always willing.
-
An interesting, and impossible to answer, question. Coyne, Cooper, Russell, Graham, and a few others probably, all arrived at the end of their careers and contributed hugely. If you take into account signings from Junior / youth teams then Keith McRae, sold for 拢100k in the early seventies should be under consideration. .Joe Wark, signed from Blantyre Vic (I think) and an absolute club legend should be up there too. I could probably come up with several more given time. Money received shouldn't be the only consideration in this discussion.
-
Priestman for all round performance and lasting the full game where others played well sporadically but, understandably, faded.
-
Quite enjoyed that tonight, 2 cracking goals. Moorman was good. Euan Wilson gives me the fear whenever the balls goes anywhere near him, he just isnt very good. Once we get to know each other and get 3 to 4 new sigings then hopefully we can kick on!!!!!!!!!!! Mon the Well

Priestman was absolutely superb tonight , that boy will earn us serious money in the future. Elliott who.
-
It was a toss up between Fadinger and Priestman, both were excellent tonight and controlled midfield. Peach of a strike by Fadinger.
