Ross County have a game tonight in Perth and I suspect they'll practice a bit of squad rotation. They'll be a tough nut to crack, but are sitting bottom of the Championship for a reason.
- Today
-
I anticipate a long day of bus parking low blocking.
-
From O'Neill's comments it sounded like he didn't really know the current rules and was instructed from above to do "just in case". 100% agree we shouldn't wait around though, and be moving forward on the basis he isn't coming back.
-
We've got a manager that will set the team up accordingly, send them out with the correct attitude and won't accept our standards dropping so I have no worries that we'll win this one but it will be a hard game but no harder than any other we've had this season.
-
Yeah, but reading stuff like this starts to give me the fear.
-
Easiest game of the season!I can't believe what I am reading here we are going to pump them rotten and TJ is going to bag a hat trick!
-
It'll be a tough game. County as per usual will take no prisoners with the likes of our old and dear friend Lacovitti turning out for them. They'll sit in and will be difficult to break down. With our injury list, I'm taking nothing for granted. As MJC, points out, our cup record isn't great.

I just don’t trust Motherwell when it comes to Cup ties. We’ve seen it all too often over the years when we’ve had good teams we’ve blown it in the cup against sides we were well capable of beating. The St.Mirren Semi Final this season being prime example. As you said, we just didn’t turn up. I wouldn’t put it past us to not turn up again.
-
Yes, that is correct, only two teams in a season. I think that O'Neill's comments were quite classy, but we can't be expected to wait a couple of weeks to see if Welsh can come back.
-
If Welsh plays minutes for Celtic does that mean the only other team he can play for this season on loan is Motherwell ?
-
Every team is a danger in the Cup but the point remains we should have too much for Ross County with the quality we have and the style we employ. Sure fluke results can happen but I'll be genuinely surprised if Ross County turn us over.
-
Macclesfield is a warning. Best team available must play its a cup game one bad performance and your out til next year. We have a better than normal chance this year with the team we have and a favourable draw we could do well.
-
No team has dominated us this season, absolutely no one. Even the Stephen Robinson masterclass in the Cup was absolute bollocks. We just didn't show up in that one. As bad as we were had we not lost the 3rd goal when we did, we had momentum at that point, we shot ourselves in the foot with the 3rd goal gifting the game to a bog standard St Mirren team. We've only lost 3 games, in which we beat ourselves rather than the opposition turning us over. The kind of stats Motherwell have delivered this season I have never seen before in any of my 50 years watching us in the top flight so if we lose to Ross County it will be an enormous shock. I expect a hard game but we should be too good for them.

If they're going to go into administration again, they might as well do it splashing out big wages on good players.
-
Georgie Gent comes on as a late sub for Barnsley at Anfield in the FA Cup
-
Fair enough from O'Neill. Welsh is their player and I can imagine he wont actually be happy going back. Been immense but attitude top class and really taken club to heart. Sane also with Balmer, always smiling and always got involved with celebrations, wish both every success but if we could get Welsh back it would be awesome
-
Derby wanted him too
-
Liam Morrison from QPR wanting a loan move to try and push for the Scotland squad. He’s quite young and a good prospect by all accounts. I’ve no doubt being a product of Bayern Munich that he can play.
-
O'Neill saying there's a chance Welsh could be sent back to us if he can get players in and they have no further injuries. Sounded apologetic to Welsh, said he was enjoying himself 'immensely' here, complemented the football Motherwell have been playing, but said it's needs must. No suggestion they're punting him to anyone. Great as that would be, it puts JBA in a tricky situation, as there seems to be a will, but no guarantee.
-
Although sad to see him return Lots of positives re Welsh . We’ve benefited from having someone better than we’d normally afford and he improved our teams results . He’s also improved his personal stock and suspect a serious contender to get game time at park head . if a bigger club was to give another loanee of similar quality for rest of the season that would be fine by me
-
Get your money on Staggies!! JBA named manager of month for December! 🤪🤪
-
Probably wrong but the only place I could see him going is Belgium , but even then the wages might be an issue. A Loan might be doable I guess. But remember Celtic already mucked him about when Mechelen wanted him back for this season. To our benefit. Celtic have one CB injured long term and let two youngsters for the same position leave because they could not get in ahead of Scales and Trusty. Which speaks volumes about Celtic's recruitment under Rodgers. No inside info, just a feeling, but I think they have recalled him to be a starter.....at least until Carter Vickers returns. And as others have said, why should Welsh take a wage cut to facilitate a permanent transfer to the likes of Aberdeen or us?
-
Unless they truly do want him to be a starter, it feels like Celtic might just be testing the waters in Jan.
-
No worries, I may also have read it wrong 😁 I'd agree I think fee wise we could afford him but there it goes South.
-
My point was that we could afford the fee but the wages ruled us out. Sorry if that was not clear.
