Fuk all that crap . On to the game on Saturday. A 2-0 win for the good guys after a relaxing two weeks, apart from Just who will be knackered after 65 min.

I guess it is about fairness no matter what club is involved. And the Slattery situation is annoying given it should have been dealt with on the night. No argument about that. Believe me I am annoyed as well as we will miss him when we need him most. The thing that also annoys me though is that a good few on here (not saying that includes you) are playing the victim card...poor wee Motherwell, this would not happen to a big club.... and in doing so are losing sight of what actually happened. Almost turning Slattery into a Martyr.. He isn't. He did a stupid thing and got caught after the fact. Got punished. Same as others, albeit pre VAR. For me that failing of VAR is the big issue the authorities should be dealing with. The ineptitude of their own officials. I think we are all agreed on that? Folk also have a concern about the delay in the matter being dealt with. Seems a fair point on the face of it. Again that aspect is annoying. But if Motherwell had accepted the punishment when cited, the ban could have come into play right away. Dundee and Hibs? By contesting a charge and seeking a hearing, a Club is given two weeks to gather video evidence and witnesses in support of their case whilst the Authorities put together a Panel. Motherwell opted to fight the accusation, and many will agree they were correct to do so, but that may have added to the delay. That's my understanding anyway, looking to the procedures followed in the past. Anyway, thanks heavens there is a game coming up in a few days. We can move on and hopefully get a much needed boost, particularly having suffered through Steve Clarke's latest delivery of fearful football and games for the boys.

I get that you are trying to beat the drum for impartiality and fairness and I commend you for it. But we dont live in an ideal world. We all know this. So until we do, I think its fair enough to be annoyed.....

Thanks for that: it was so little used I'd forgotten the real reason for the free kick!

RIP Willie

Definitely the only time I ever saw it used.
-
Was actually the “4 step” rule he violated. And I reckon it was the one and only time it was used.

Got my shirt and can't wait!

Always remember him as a strong, dependable defender who had played in the Man. Utd. first team in the early 70s (recently saw a game on YT). He scored an unusual (and winning) goal at Firhill in the cup replay against Partick Thistle in Feb 1975 before our Great Airdrieonians Disappointment (as usual we had an extremely rare application of the laws when Stuart Rennie was supposed to have overstepped the 18 yard line when he launched a kick-out): STNC 👹. Thanks for the memories, Willie.

I'm too young to really remember him playing, but I do remember his son was in my Primary 1 class.
-
Yup same here, started going in 1977 and Willie was right back in that great side RIP

RIP Willie

A big part of my first Well side. Sad to see another one leave us.

Very sorry to learn of the passing of Willie Watson at the age of 76. Condolences to his friends and family. He was a real stalwart in the best Well side that I've seen. My abiding memory of him was in that famous 1977 cup game at Fir Park when we defeated St Mirren 2-1. He moved in to tackle Bobby Torrance, who under instruction from Alex Ferguson leapt 7 feet into the air and landed in a heap rolling about in mock agony. The only problem was that Willie was wise to this tactic and stopped short without actually making the challenge. RIP Willie.

Nah, he was daft enough to do it on live tv when winning by 3 goals so deserved what he got I'm afraid...we will miss him too.

That's true if those others were caught in match. But other than the two match suspended nonsense, Slattery received the same punishment as others who were later found to have conned officials into awarding penalties/ red cards. Exactly what we were demanding when Kipre was sent off after Brown conned the referee. Plenty of other examples of similar punishments in the past. Despite comments to the contrary this was not a ground breaking or historic decision. Rangers appealed when it happened to them insisting contact had been made (Aluko dived to win a penalty in a 2-1 win over Dunfermline - 2 match ban) and were unsuccessful. But far easier to ignore precedents and play the victim card. Slattery got caught, got punished in line with others. It's done. Would we have complained had Scott Brown been cited and banned for two games with the Kipre red card rescinded? As others have said, the real issues here are inconsistency and the ineptitude of VAR and the match officials. Had they done their job correctly then it would have been dealt with immediately at less cost to Motherwell and Slattery. In an ideal world, with the introduction of VAR, situations like this should not occur. But in reality they will as long as players continue to exaggerate contact.

The refereeing is really poor for sure but guys hoing down easily isn't going to help.
-
I said it when c*ntwell did same thing to slatts, an opposition player is going to miss some games, win bonuses , his place in team ...all while offending players team is winning. I think Slatts is a cracking player and he's come through a hard time but he messed up here , no getting away from it.
-
He deserved a yellow card; the same as others guilty of the same offence.
-
Slattery has to take some responsibility for his embarrassing antics. The poor refereeing made it worse and the retrospective action compounded the incompetence by handing out a 4 match ban for something that would have been a yellow card in-game. So an embarrassment all round, with each decision worse than the next. I can't speak for anyone else, but I hate cheating more than I hate bad decisions. And that applies to our players too.
-
No it was'nt, if he had went down easily or for you " dived" won us a penalty that won the cup etc, would we all be complaining, i think not, so lighten up on Slattery. The real embarrassment is the standard of refereeing in Scotland which is 100% responsible for this whole shit show.
-
Sorry, but Slats got what he deserved. Utterly embarrasing.

Played 2 years ago. No tour, just straight into dressing rooms. After it there was a reception in Centenary Suite.

Robinson gets the full backing of Strachan. Seems like only yesterday that Strachan was backing another ex-Motherwell boss.
