Nobody at the club, fans or Board, seems to rate him. I understand that sometimes players aren't always a good fit for a particular team or system, but given the way Celtic like to play it feels like an obvious choice to keep him (and start him).
-
The amazing thing to me was that I never spoke to a Celtic fan who rated him in the slightest.
-
Because he was on 6.5k per week and should have no trouble getting that in Toulouse.
-
I see Celtic have agreed to an early termination of Steven Welsh contract. Why do I get the horrible feeling he ain't coming to us.
- Today
-
What his dad does his private life is nobody else's business.
-
We shouldn't be busting the bank for anyone. Welsh was great, but other football playing centre backs are available.
-
The 8 team Euros were my favourite footballing event and still remember the 1976 tournament where the original Panenka was taken (by Panenka, obviously) in the penalty shootout in the final.
-
See Smelik have terminated Welsh’s contract……….should we be busting the bank for him ????
-
I was just about ready to throw myself out a window after trying to explain to a younger family member that Steve Clarke "getting us to major tournaments" isn't as impressive as it might have been when we were doing it in the 80's and 90's, when said tournaments included 24 and 8 teams. Don't get me wrong, I grudgingly respect Clarke getting us to the tournaments he has, but let's not pretend that it's even close to the same as Roxborough getting us to the 1990 World Cup and 1992 Euros. It's mental to think that tournament in 1992 featured us and only seven other teams!

Progression for me doesn't mean attaining more success, it's more about continuing with what we've been doing. I'm thinking more along the lines of establishing ourselves as a mainstay in the top six, for example. We've finished in the top six something like three times in the past ten years, so establishing a run of finishing in the top six would be progress in my opinion. Continuing to play an attractive, exciting brand of football that attracts fans to the ground is also important. That's mainly what I mean when I say it would have been interesting to see how JBA would have fared in his second season.

If you think that's a joke, it being held over three continents in 2030.
-
World Cup over the three country's is a joke for fans attending . Prices for hotels were a joke prices for games were a joke. Think they have found out now fans aren't really that stupid and prices have crashed. Fifa is in a different world from real fans and are so arrogant that they thought fans would pay any price. Maybe the rich celebs , rich executives and rich Arabs they regularly mix with has something to do with this alternative view of our sport. Holding it in USA is only trying to promote football to the masses there. Corporate greed has really taken over now. No chance Scotland will progress from our group.
-
Probably Kyrk McMillan's Dad with his Klopp wig, glasses and false teeth.
-
I think we may be hearing soon about our new manager. Wishaw Golf Club have had a request to allow a helicopter to land on the course on Thursday to drop off someone for a meeting that day in the area, and then come back and pick the person back up later that day. Nobody knows who this person is, but I'm thinking it could be our new manager perhaps? Maybe an announcement on Friday? Who knows, I could be miles out, but it's great to speculate.

100% this, well said
-
Based on those postcards, I'm surprised that the Rancid hasn't gone with a MCGINN IN SHOCK MOVE TO VILLA headline.
-
I think young Oscar will be returning ti Fir Park, no worries there pal. The holiday postcards were great.....but sooooo jealous of them
-
Anyone else notice in the clubs socials with the holiday postcards part one of our young promising players is in the south of France...... hope he doesnt know anyone there........
-
I'll probably play more attention after the group stages are done and dusted. I'm a much bigger fan of the knockout rounds.
-
To be absolutely honest, I wouldn’t cross the road to watch any team that Steve Clarke manages. As for the World Cup I can’t get excited about it. It’s now become a 3-ring circus and having 48 countries involved is farcical.

I'd disagree with that. Taking advantage of our possession to score more goals is the thing we were missing for large parts of the season. He could have improved on that. Beating Falkirk and Hearts. Plus taking taking us to a group stage in Europe (unlikely I know).
-
Other than winning a cup, there isn't much that JBA could have done next season that would have shown progression, and there is a fair likelihood that we will regress due to losing more of our better players (Slattery will already be a huge loss), along with a combo of other teams being more wise to us and not all of the bigger teams being basket cases. Then you throw in the inevitable drop in league form due to Europe, and you can see why it was good for JBA to move on on a high. That doesn't mean we have suddenly become relegation fodder, but repeating this season is going to be very difficult - unless we genuinely did crack the whole recruitment thing with our data partner. Personally, I think we will see a drop in results, but still be in the conversation for top 6, and we will have some good off the field stuff going on, as well as maybe some of our own young players coming through.

I guess a question I have is, *whisper it*, would Jens have managed to continue the success with the same approach in his second season? Your Slot comment is interesting, because we saw the difference between his two seasons in charge. Sadly, we'll never know. We can only be thankful for the incredible season we had.

You're right Denny. The SFA is not an entity in itself. It is there to represent member clubs. He does indeed sound like a dictator.

Great post and I agree with most of it. I’ve been selective quoting sections to highlight. in alternate universe if we swapped squads would McGlynn have had same success with his tactics and JBA with Falkirk players I wonder. Both approach’s seem to trust the players. I probably wouldn’t be disappointed if Jøhn Glynnæssøn 😉 came in but it may feel a bit like replacing Klopp with Slot
