I think David Healy could be worth considering. He was close to taking the Raith Rovers job so is obviously interested in managing in Scotland. He has done a very good job at Linfield and whenever I’ve seen him analyse Northern Ireland matches he comes across very well. It’s the type of left field appointment we could make.

I know what you mean, but the hoop and/or band has only been used on about 50% of our kits in our history. Even when I started watching us around 1970, we only had one hoop season until 1984. Our kit in the 1925-26 season looked like this: I'd be OK if we did that as a tribute 100 years later.

Whatever the real story is - no team can afford to have a manager (or player) that doesn't want to be there. Look at Amorim at Man U. Even before their cup loss, he was letting everyone know he wouldn't even ask for compensation if the sacked him. There could genuinely be family issues, he might just have been homesick, or he might have looked at the possibility of Livi being promoted and thought "I can't work in any tinpot league that allows 25% of their clubs to play on plastic" From the club's perspective, I was happy they tried something like this and disappointed it didn't work out. It was certainly a better idea than the times we had people on here suggesting Tommy Wright should be appointed as a "safe pair of hands". Nothing said publicly about how long it was on the club statement when he was appointed. Potentially 12 month rolling contract but that's just an assumption on my part.

I can't find how long Wimmer's contract was, as that would surely have been a factor in the compensation discussion.

Because at the end of the day they'll have got him on a bargain. The guy wanted away so the clubs hands were tied. A price is agreed between the clubs undoubtedly in their favour because if it isn't Wimmer walks and we get fa.

You’ve clearly lived a very sheltered life if that’s your take here. People should always look after number one; not their boss or anyone else. Integrity means nothing in the context of commitment to your employer vs that to yourself or your family. I do what’s in the best interests of me and my family over what’s in the best interests of my employer, but that in no way means I am negligent or shit at my job. To the contrary in fact. I’m as pissed off as you are about Wimmer leaving, but life isn’t as black and white as you seem to be suggesting.

Why would compensation be minimal he was our clubs manager, signed up on a permanent contract, just starting to rebuild the team for a new season. Motherwell FC invested a lot of time , effort and trust into this guy then he is more or less poached to another club. Family problems fair enough but to have a job lined up as soon as he leaves , starting immediately , well that doesn’t happen overnight does it. Stinks a bit. We now have to reorganise all our future plans , the direction the club was going with him and our signing targets . Then start all over again to find a new manager when two of our direct league rivals are doing the same in the same market place.. He's left us in the shit . We should be getting quite a bit of compensation to cover all this I would think. But it is the real world and we are Motherwell after all . So we will probably come out of this looking like a caring ,compassionate and understanding club , which in the cold light of day the whole thing will have cost us a lot.

Agree with you re not being in the lurch . it now makes a bit more sense why several old the old guard have been retained - with another change of manager we have the likes of Halliday , sod , McGinn and also retained likes of sparrow , slattery and I’m hopeful seddon. hopefully we have a new gaffer in place soon.

I agree. I don’t think anyone can ever call such appointments a mistake, although there should be recognition that there is a big element of risk involved, but that’s football. And that risk has unfortunately come to fruition. On your second point, I would say that he absolutely took the job knowing it could be a short thing for him to boost his CV. We’ve all done it. I’ve moved to a new post, promising them at least 3 years of service, when I was absolutely planning on using it to get me into another post elsewhere as soon as possible. It’s annoying when it happens against your interests, but it’s normal. Next…

With hindsight I can see how it’s being discribed as a mistake . Why oh why would his family decide to stay in Germany rather than move to Lanarkshire ? that part is always a bit of risk. As a club we’ve got a decent record of brining in an unexpected candidate . Over the years Butcher , Mcall ,McGhee , barroclough , gannon, brown , Alexander . Don’t think any recall any being obvious . we need a bit of stability and ideally one who’ll stick around for a bit akin to butcher , Mcall , Robinson .

A lot of Wimmer’s ‘plans’ will now probably be in the bin, whatever they were.

This is where I’ve got concerns. If, like some suggest, he’s been working his ticket for the past few weeks, with his end goal of leaving the club having already been decided in his head, then how much of his talk and action on squad preparation and recruitment for next season have just been him paying lip service? Was his heart in it? Etc etc. He’s not fully left us in the lurch per se. However, we now have to recruit a new manager and several new players, but who knows in what order that will now happen. With safety secured, it could still easily be argued that we’re now in a pretty weak place when it comes to getting things right for the next two seasons, at least. Dundee and Killie are probably in a similar place, but less so given different contexts. That said, this summer is going to be helluva exciting on the forums now. Almost Barmackesque.
