Come on Lesmahagow🏆 Good friend of my Dad's was a guy called Davie . His son Dean Muir both a player and manager for Bellshill so I will be delighted if they win that league
-
Kipre just booked for Ipswich and it flashed up that's his 11th yellow this season. Is Craig Thompson refereeing doon there?
-
I always assumed that I am one of the really old timers on this forum but when many of you are sharing memories of Ancell babes I realise that I am just a young thing. Willie Pettigrew was my first Motherwell hero and that was in the late 1970's when I would sneak in to watch the last quarter of games for free after they opened the big terracing gates. I am feeling good about tomorrow. I think the team will return to form and the bad luck with decisions has to change at some point even if it is Rangers at Ibrox. Biggest thing is to avoid getting any players sent off or making challenges in the box that give the referee a decision to make ( I know that is so much easier send than done). Take some of the chances we create and it will put Rangers under real pressure.

Few players can say they doubled as Chief Executive while still pulling on the shirt. Former Motherwell winger Pat Nevin could, in theory, have been dropped as a player — then dismissed the manager who dropped him. Hear Pat’s stories live at the Motherwell FC 140th Gala Dinner. I think he has benefited with the obvious time spent coaching him by the manager to play a totally different game from which he and other keepers are used to . Made a few bad mistakes in the first part of the season ,until he got used to things . Fair play to him he has adapted well. But now lots of teams are playing this way with keeper well up the park. Good shot stopper , no so good at positioning and comming for corners tho. Would be happy to keep him or sell if good offer comes in.

As a wee boy I always looked out for Charlie's blond hair at corners, since he was so good with his head. Of course sometimes Andy Weir would score directly from them anyway and save Charlie the trouble. A truly great Motherwell player ignored by the selectors? That would never happen! 🤣

I was one of Ward’s biggest critics at the start of the season, but credit where it’s due. He’s not just a keeper benefitting from a good team, he’s a key part of why it’s good.
-
Ward is a decent keeper in the modern style. No more no less. Undoubtedly he's benefitted from the defence in front of him and our style. However, should he move on I'm sure he could be replaced with someone just as good.
-
He's got the highest save percentage in the league by the way.

Welcome aboard Willie H, apologies for the confusion at sign up, I forget we have these things in place when people are signing up. Could give you the chewin the fat, GG,W,GG summary but you'll find out who soon enough For the record I'm the only default GG on here everyone else has to earn it
-
You are obviously huge fan of Ward which i respect, I am not. For me distribution of a ball is not my main priority for a keeper, its catching crosses, saving shots etc. For me he is an average keeper and if we can get a good fee then its great business
-
Yeah Charlie was one of the greatest players of his era altho theSFA selectors didn't think so!
-
That has also gone out of fashion. Was reading an article a couple of weeks ago about the modern game almost completely eliminating the traditional goal scoring centre forward.
-
Great name Wullie, but my favourite player of that era was the man whose photo I use, that of Charlie Aitken.
-
"Abandon hope all who enter here!" Run, Willie, run!
-
Its the guys in front that gave him the clean sheets some games he never had a save to make. He's just an average keeper in a good team.
-
I think I read somewhere that he's one of, if not the best, distributor of the ball in his position in Scotland. Which is a huge part of the skillset clubs look for from a goalkeeper nowadays. There's a reason why clubs are sniffing around him.
-
Yup , appreciate your view pal and see where you are coming from but for me he is an average keeper
-
But not with his particular skillset, which is a requirement for how we play now. Those better keepers from years gone by might not be a great fit for how we play today. In the past, it was basically a case of looking for someone who could stop shots and be decent coming for crosses. Changed days.
-
And goalscoring not a priority for hendry and RCC 🤣
-
And probably better. His clean sheet record great but just my opinion, we have had better keepers over the years
-
Any keeper who replaces Ward, if we sell him, will more than likely come with the same attributes.
-
Celtic, Wycombe and Jagielliona Bailystok no less. The ship has sailed on keepers with shot stopping and crosses skill in the same way defending and tackling is no longer a top priority for full backs.
