The Great Rebuild 2017'18

Neither of the Edinburgh clubs appear to be interested in Scougall and St Johnstone appear to be the front runners.

Henderson is a player I rate highly but he's outwith our reach. If he were to leave Celtic but remain in Scotland, Hibs would be his destination. He developed a real affinity for the club during his loan spell there and attended a number of their games last season.

Aware of the situations with Scougall and Henderson. Would hope we would at least ask the question...

Just about to watch the playoffs - anyone think Tony Andreu would be worth asking about? Not sure about his contract situation at Norwich but I imagine he's well down the pecking order there.

Can't say I've seen much of him recently but he had a very impressive spell at Accies before he went down south.

He's not too dissimilar in style to Skippy as well.

He was total shit on Thursday but maybe that was just a bad night at the office I'm sure not good enough for Norwich but don't know what money they would want for himas paid over a million if I remember correctly .Sounds like old pals act from Alex Neil

You would have to think that Scougall will get better offers than ours, maybe from the Edinburgh clubs but we would offer more of a chance of regular first team football.

Another name that has come up in the past and I'd love us to ask the question is Liam Henderson. May be time for him to move on permanently from Parkhead...

Celtic U20s players are on two, two and a half times the wages of our top first team earners.

He'd have to take a big drop in wages to come to Motherwell. Will more likely join a Hibs or Aberdeen or go to Championship/League 1 level in England.

From evening times.

RANGERS have been told they will not get Motherwell duo Louis Moult and Ben Heneghan on the cheap this summer.

Both players have been linked with the Ibrox club as part of Pedro Caixinha's summer rebuild but it could cost the Portuguese and his board if they want to tempt them away from Lanarkshire.

Former Chester centre-half Heneghan has been put forward as the man to help solidify the Rangers defence, while Moult, Motherwell's top scorer two seasons on the trot with 18 goals, would certainly add a potent goal threat in a Light Blue shirt.

However, with both players still under contract next term, Fir Park CEO Alan Burrows has been blunt about the chances of either player leaving at a bargain rate.

He said: There has been some speculation about some of our players. Its public knowledge, or certainly public speculation, that Louis Moult and Ben Heneghan and others are targets for other clubs. That remains to be scene.

What I will say about our recruitment policy is this. We sell a vision to players when they come here. We tell them and want them to know its a partnership between them and the club.

We will showcase them in a good league and environment where they can develop their talent, they become better players and as a result will be of bigger interests than Motherwell Football Club. Thats our model.

For that to work properly though, is to make sure we get true value for our players.

We will not, and I say this categorically, have our pants pulled down by any club looking to try and get a player on the cheap here.

Weve done it before in the past and its been hugely frustrating for our supporters, me included when I used to watch us lose good players for what I thought was not a lot of money."

Burrows is insistent any Motherwell players will be sold as long as their 'proper value' was met.

This was the case at the start of the season when Marvin Johnson was eventually sold on for a large six-figure sum to Oxford United. It is a model Motherwell are not prepared to deviate from now.

Speaking to MFC TV, Burrows told said: What I can absolutely give people assurance of is that if anyone wants any player who is still contracted at Motherwell they are going to have to come up with a proper value.

If they dont come up with a proper value we will not be selling them, its as simple as that. If we do sell them for cheap it undermines the whole model.

What I will reiterate again is that if a player is in contract at Motherwell, we want to sell them that vision and we want them to complete that vision. You think of Jamie Murphy and other guys who in recent years have gone to enjoy fantastic careers. Ross McCormack, Darren Randolph and countless others.

We will work with them to help those players achieve that goal but what we would be is undermined in terms of people trying to come in and take players for less than their true value.

We will stick steadfast to that."

I see the Evening Times haven't managed to get a version of word that's got spelling and grammar check then! :haha:

Yesterday should be a reminder that building a team is far more important than selling players.

We got away with it this season. We might not be so lucky again.

Did occur to me yesterday a club of Utds size should not be relegated never mind kept down by a club like Hamilton. However sell you're best players all the time one dodgy deal to Celtic in particular. Then don't be surprised to be in the shit.

I wouldn't touch Gavin Gunning with a ten foot bargepole, a headcase who, even after all that's happened, seems to have a jumped up opinion of his own ability. Law was an honest professional and a decent enough right-back, but he's a downgrade on Tait and I definitely wouldn't sign him as backup.

It's likely two seasons in the Championship will cost them all the money they got for Armstrong, GMS and Ciftci.

And that's without knowing how much McNamara and Thompson personally pocketed from the deals.

I was at the wind up with the reference to to Gunning and Law even though Robinson signed Law last summer.

Regards the alleged offer for Moult. Could O'Halloran play a similar role to McDonald in playing off a striker leading the line? Possibly. But we are in a peculiar position of swap deals not really suiting us as, as has been pointed out, transfer income being used to pay off specific debts. On the other hand, Rangers are alleged to have paid £500k for O'Halloran. That would technically see Moult valued at £700k. Club could certainly make a case for saying that they got value there and address the need for a replacement for a key player without spending on a transfer fee. Would that tempt the board? It might. As much I'd rather not see Moult join Rangers, I'm braced for it...
