  1. Stephen Robinson was asked to get us a run in the cups. He's reached two finals. (You can talk all you want about how losing 2 finals isn't an achievement, but he wasn't asked to WIN cups, he was asked to get a run in cups, and he achieved that, therefore in the tick-box exercise that is a company performance review, it's an achievement). He was asked to bring in money through player sales. Club has brought in more money under him than any other manager (I think). He was asked to keep us clear of a relegation battle. We are comfortably clear of a relegation battle. He was asked to do it all within a very restricted budget. He has done that. He was asked to promote youth into the first team. He has done that. In the form table over the last 5 games, we're 6th. In the form table over the last 10 games, we're 6th. In the form table over the last 15 games, we're....yup, you guessed it... 6th. Now, you can debate opinion on how much you enjoy the games, how you feel we're doing, who you think should play, how you think we should set up.... until the cows come home, I have mine, everyone else has theirs, and they are probably all variations of a theme. However, the club look at the things on the list, a return on their remit. It's objective and it's fact based. Putting aside what you "think" or "feel" for a moment. Could we as a club get a manager that would exceed what's on that list above? Are the club going to want to get rid of someone that's exceeded everything in the remit that they put in front of him? What has he not delivered on that would make the club consider his position? Sorry if you're not happy, but it doesn't matter what you or I think. It's not about opinions. Stephen Robinson is currently in the middle of being an extremely successful Motherwell manager relative to what the club have asked of him, and that's what his employment status is based on. The idea that they would even be considering punting him is a massive LOL.

  2. I can't let this pass without comment. Main had a poor game tonight, but to say he was hiding is just ridiculous. For a striker, the number of goals he has scored this season is a bit embarrassing, however it certainly hasn't been down to a lack of effort.

  3. I know we are talking teams of totally different scales and ability, but Main's performance last night reminded me of Giroud for France at the world cup. Nothing of note at all inside the box, but a lot of graft as the focal point outside the box, allowing the ball players behind him to play. After his initial purple patch, it would be a bit sad if that's all he ever was, but it might be what the team needs just now.

  4. I’m disappointed it wasn’t McCulloch, only because of the potential patter of an umbrella-gate introduction video.

  5. Well fair fucks I enjoyed that. Watching Turnbull is an absolute joy. The lads range of passing, movement and technical ability is class. Backed by the powerful running and skill of Hastie & Ariyibi will certainly entertain. Central midfield balance looked so much better with Gorrin & Campbell who I thought played well together. Gorrin started a bit slack but grew in a great performance, his ability to release the ball quickly allowed our attacks to start quicker. Hopefully he can get a run in the team as I think he will only get better. Campbell his usual tenacious self and god did we miss him on Saturday. Main I thought worked his arse off in the lone striker role. Held up well and caused bother. Apart from a ten mins spell in the first half that he kept giving the ball away. A goal would spark him off I think. Grimmy was brilliant as the flying full back and Tait also had his best game in a while. Genuinely delighted at that tonight but also tinged with a what the fuck was Saturday all about. That team would have pumped Ross County.

  6. Frankly I'm glad McCulloch didn't get the job simply on the basis he signed Dom Thomas for Kilmarnock. If that doesn't make you question his ability to spot talent, nothing will...

  7. Well enough about McCulloch. We need to go do what it takes to get Turnbull signed up for a few years. I’m sure they can work in an agreement where he can be transferred under the right conditions.

  8. Dundee will be on a High after a great result for them at Tynecastle. It really would be in our best interests to try and bring them back down to earth. Unfortunately, we have been inconsistent all season, and you cannot expect the young players we have recently brought in to the squad to change that. Right now I would take a point.

  9. In fairness to main regarding this one incident, how many times this season has he played with a winger who has beaten his man and then put a cross like that in for him. He's been used to the ball either hitting the first man or getting shelled 3feet above him from the full back in a supporting position.

  10. Not his biggest fan but he does have the habit of getting the team to put in a performance every so often. So frustrating he can't seem to get them to do so on a regular basis. His team selection last night was brave, and it worked. Lets hope he sticks with this set up and gets the players playing with this intensity for the remainder of the season. It was a pleasure to be at the game last night.

  11. I was very critical of Main at the game last night. His miss when clean through showed he has lost all confidence when you think how he finished against Aberdeen in the semi. Then he had a five minute spell where he gave the ball away three or four times. However I have just watched the whole game again on Alba and he played much better than I thought. Great to see the youngsters do so well and what a goal. Thought Gorrin had a great game. When he broke up the play he usually then picked a pass. And why were Campbell and Grimshaw left out on Saturday? County would not have dominated if they were playing. Here's hoping McCormack does not become the new Brian McClair.

  12. Mains performance aside, signing a goal scorer in January isn’t easy, since we’re probably at the back of a very long queue of clubs wanting one, and the players/clubs rightfully ask for more money. Yesterdays performance was one of the best of the season, and part of that was putting main in for Johnson. We’ve not had a settled lineup all season, so hopefully this is the start of one, as every player who started deserves another start on Saturday.

  13. If yer maw had baws. If they teams above us weren't as good then we'd be higher.

  14. In what formation? Johnson cant do what Main does up front on his own. He is a penalty box player. He appears to be a better finisher but if you merely swap the 2 you dont necessarily get more goals. If you change the formation again, you may not get the same level of performance. Catch 22.

  16. If we accept that Dunne cannot pick out a pass (good at other things) why do we consistently funnel the ball to him. That's the next wrinkle to be ironed out.

  17. Probably the most I’ve enjoyed a game all season and the absolutely perfect response to Saturday. I liked the look of the starting line up and hopefully that’s the team we start with at Dens. Main was the only player who wasn’t impressive. He’s not going to score anytime soon sadly but his role involved wrestling with the Hibs players which he’s quite good at and his hold up play was decent in fairness. 3 goals in 30 games is pathetic though. Hastie was sensational! Him over Frear all day long. As was Turnbull whose touch and passing are on w different level. The new boy is fast and exciting. Gorrin and Campbell did well and Grimshaw’s runs and tenacity were a joy to watch. Defence solid. McCormack came on and had a few good touches but looks a mile off the pace. Despite what Lennon said, we were comfortable and they created nothing bar the odd cross. Gauld flattered to deceive. All for nothing if we lose at Dens though but I’m going to sit back and enjoy what I witnessed last night for a bit!

  18. I was livid at the performance on Saturday, but what a turn around that was last night. Robinson showed some balls, dropping the older underperformers and giving the young boys a shot. He got rid (in the main) the long ball and had the team attempting to play fast, flowing football. I thought we were excellent in the first half and for the first time in a while, enjoyed watching it. Yes, we had a bit of a dip in the second half but give them time. What a goal that was as well. Fast, attaching football and a one touch finish. Superb! Great team effort all round but really enjoyed watching Campbell, Turnbull, Hastie, Grimmy and Aribyi lastnight. If these guys can keep that form up, we should have a good run to the end of the season. (Just a shame we don’t have a shot at Hampden to look forward to)

  19. Tonight we had a team to be proud of and that goal will go down as one of the highlights of the season. There’s nothing better than seeing young talented boys take their opportunity. Fingers crossed we can get the contracts sorted out so that we see Campbell, Turnbul and Hastings combine for at least one season. Credit to Robinson for making the changes tonight. I’m no sure what he was thinking ahead of the Ross County game but tonight thankfully brings a degree of optimism.

  20. Stating the obvious but that was night and day to Saturday’s performance. The three supports to main all played well and gorrin added a bit of composure in the middle of the park that we don’t have when Turnbull isn’t playing there. Kudos to grimshaw for his second half performance too. It was also good to see some composure running down the clock in injury time with the two subs, McCormack and bigi, and several others, retaining possession effectively. I felt entertained this evening.

  21. Agree 100%. He was far from hiding. That’s just shit talk. Was in about everything tonight. Badly needs a goal and tbh I don’t think he is far off. Played the loan striker role well tonight.

  22. I thought Main played well tonight, and had some half chances (saying he missed any "sitters" is just untrue), but it's clear for all to see he's trying too hard to score at times. I reckon we should persevere with him for now.
