  1. Win ratio of 43.24% from 111 games, bettered only in recent times by Craig Brown (45.14 from 35 games), and Stuart McCall (45.89% from 146 games). League games only, i'd imagine including cup games would take him above both of them as he's reached the final of 50% of the cup competitions he's presided over. He's also one of only 7 Motherwell managers in history whose sides scored more than they conceded over the course of their reign, and one of only 7 whose sides won more games than they lost over their reign. So aye, Robinson oot.

  5. To be fair, only one of Gillespie or Carson can play, Tanner is injured, Kipre was sold and Rose moved back for family reasons. Aldred and Aribiyi were generally successful loan signings, so the fact that only Dunne, Carson or Gillespie and Donnelly might start tonight doesn't say that they've been his only successful signings so far. I wasn't a fan but you could even argue that Main has moved to a bigger club on leaving so doesn't suggest that he was a disastrous signing. With a few notable exceptions (mainly at left back) most of Robinson's signings have contributed something in their time here...

  6. Yes he's one and the same. I think he'd be signed for the development/reserve squad rather than the first team.

  7. Why? Admittedly, this seems to be the way it is with modern football where nobody at boardroom level takes any responsibility leaving managers isolated, one or two games away from the sack should it all go wrong (Old Firm mentality). Thankfully at Motherwell they seem to do things differently. I have said a number of times before that I identify with MFC as a club because they look out for their own. Going back to the days of John Chapman, Bill Dickie etc there seemed to be a simple honesty and integrity in the way in which the club was run. That tradition continues and Alan Burrows and the wider board at Motherwell seem to foster mutual respect and trust. I believe fully that were Robinson managing a different team, he would have been sacked at Christmas (as some on these boards wanted), but the people in power at Motherwell looked at the bigger picture, backed their man and look what happened. Why should the board wait? They have the facts in front of them. They have presumably signed off on the new players. They know what they have to work with so collectively they are standing by the decisions they have made and backing their man. It is hugely refreshing and for me what makes out club slightly different. I am delighted with this news. Robinson seems to be a very hard working, professional young manager who has a bright future ahead. That he is assisted by one of our on in Keith Lasley makes the fit all the better. It has not all been plain sailing but I think the fact that Robinson was able to bring the team out of a slight tail spin in December should commend him to us all the more.

  8. Edinburgh city took CQ to a penalty shootout five months ago. Hopefully a spot in the top 6 is opening up.

  9. He did more than a decent job. Turnbull, Hastie and Gorrin transformed the season. And while Gorrin could be rash he was 45th on the leagues worst discipline list compared to McHugh who was 3rd. Gorrin didn't do the flashy stuff like Turnbull and Hastie but finding an adequate replacement is going to be crucial to the upcoming season, especially when we play similar level teams.

  10. A good solid performance, while it was only a championship team I think possible the best bunch of signings Robinson has made, positives from all of them and I think in Gallagher we’ve signed a corker, his distribution is better than any centre half signed while i’ve been watching the club.

  11. Hylton, Ilic, Gallagher, Scott, Polworth..... actually most of the team looking good in an attacking sense, which looks like it will get better as understanding grows. A couple of shakey moments at the back which better teams might punish, but i’ll take that for exciting football. Great goal by Hylton.

  12. That Morton keeper is woeful, very Samson-esque with his refusal to catch a ball. Their left back should have been sent off twice, some absolutely wild tackles. Hylton has a really good game, the ball seemed to stick to him out on the left flank and that was a great finish for his goal. Scott should have had a hat trick, but those two goals will be great for his confidence. seedorf is crazy fast, he’s going to be fun to watch, and illic looked handy when he came on. Donnelly is doing ok, but he was wasteful a few times, similar to McHugh at his worst without the ability to win headers. Nice finish though. Polworth played well, but Morton seemed to give him acres of space all first half. Interesting to see Maguire in midfield for the last 20 or so. I really like the look of Gallagher, solid player.

  16. Seen someone mention Tom Leighton is playing a trial game with us today, also Jason Cummings released by Nottingham Forrest, surely way out our budget? have to think he will end up at a Hibs/Aberdeen.

  17. Our experience against stjarnan was similar, and possibly Mypa before that. It’s difficult for clubs like us and Killie to sustain success over more than a couple of seasons.

  18. I can understand being a wee bit rusty at the start of the campaign, but to win the first leg scoring 2 away goals and then blow it at home in the second leg is pretty spectacular.

  19. Some always think the grass is greener, in reality it rarely is. In my opinion if you have a half decent manager then you build on that and bring that continuity. We all know Robinson and Lasley, and they know the club from top to bottom. Clearly Robinson is a good man manager, I don’t think a single player still here or at another club has had a bad thing to say about him and that’s a big plus in itself. At some stage he will either be sacked, or leave for another club, that’s football. However that time is not now and he still has work to do. Good luck to the pair of them, they have my full support.
