How can you be so angry with something that is completely unconfirmed? Nobody knows if there's a sell on clause, nobody knows if the fee is £3.25m with or without add ons, nobody knows if Celtic straight up refused to put a sell on clause in there, nobody knows if there's a 25% sell on clause, nobody knows if there's a clause in DT's newly re-signed contract saying we must accept a fee of x and above etc etc etc. Nobody knows anything, yet people are absolutely raging.4 points

and from the chairman...... It is with mixed emotions that we have agreed to sell David Turnbull to Celtic FC. David leaves us for a fee nearly double our previous record transfer. David is the latest in a long line of players who have developed with us. Marvin Johnson, Ben Heneghan, Louis Moult, Cédric Kipré and James Scott are recent success stories in what we set out to achieve. We provide talented players with a platform to showcase and enhance their abilities. Our continued success in that area is huge testament to our manager Stephen Robinson, his coaching staff, our academy staff and our scouting and recruitment department. In this particular case, significant tribute must also be paid to David Henderson, our head physiotherapist, for his outstanding dedication to David’s physical and mental rehabilitation over the last 12 months. As chairman, I am delighted with this clear vindication of our strategy. For the health and prosperity of our fan-owned club, we must continue on this path. As a fan, I also feel the loss of such talented individuals who contribute to our success on the pitch. Everyone at the club does, particularly our manager. Stephen has performed phenomenally across his almost four years in charge. The money we receive for David will allow us in part to build up the strategic reserve, which helps secure and sustain us through such difficult and uncertain times. But this is also an opportunity to invest in the infrastructure, for example our training ground, academy and other facilities, with a view to providing an even-better environment for player development. We wish David every success for the future. He is a local boy who has supported this club all of his life and has given us many memorable moments on the pitch. His agreement to extend his contract is a testament to his integrity and in doing so he secured the club’s interests as well as his own. As I’ve said above, as a fan, I regret to see him leave Fir Park. But the club can take pride knowing we have played a part in help develop this exceptionally talented footballer and young man, whose legacy will endure for many years. Jim McMahon Chairman4 points

Have to believe that those trying to downplay what a move to Celtic could mean are grasping at straws a little. It's understandable, mind you. Personally, I think he'll go on to become a fantastic player for Celtic. He'll win titles, and despite what folk say, he will get some games in front of the big crowds against Europe's top clubs (not to say he'll win any of them mind, as Celtic lose more of them than anything else, but still.) Another factor is that he's still young. There's every chance he doesn't fancy uprooting his life and fucking off to some city down south where he knows no one at this stage in his life. Probably a different scenario in five years or so if and when he's maybe married with his own family. The transition will be somewhat easier then. I think he has his heart set on Celtic as the next step, and good luck to him. I've seen some people moan about the fee as well. Maybe those people need a wee reminder that if he hadn't signed an extension with us, which he had no obligation to do, and which wasn't in his own interests really, we'd be getting fuck all close to the amount mentioned now. He lived up to his side of the bargain, now we need to live up to ours. And I fully expect our board to do so.4 points

It never ceases to amaze me that people think they literally own a football club because they pay £10 a month to the Well Society.3 points

I think that tonight's result for Celtic should give David Turnbull something to think about career wise. A lot has happened since he was poised to join Celtic a year ago. I think it was a move that made enough sense then, but probably makes less sense now. He will have seen how quickly circumstances can change both personally and indeed globally. He is a year older but doesn't have many more footballing miles on the clock He is still a prodigious talent and has pretty much proven that he has come back from his injury and is fit enough to have a full and exciting career. The question is, what are his ambitions and what are the best way to achieve them. Any move to Celtic will undoubtedly involve a four or five year deal. Does the idea of several seasons playing against the same standard of opposition as he currently does for us really appeal? Yes, he will be on better money, yes he will probably pick up a bag full of medals, yes he will probably be fast tracked into the international side ( not sure if this is ultimately a great thing these days) but the idea of glamorous European nights is a bit of a myth and the advantage of staying close to home has to be balanced with the pressure that the doldfish bowl of playing for the old firm entails. I hope he considers his options carefully because he is both a genuine talent and he seems to have behaved very well throughout this saga. As for us, I am resigned to life without him in our ranks and just hope we get a decent price for him and do not squander it as we try and rebuild our season.3 points

Tam Cowan just said on BBC Scotland that since Robinson has been in we have brought in £7milliom in transfer fees. He slso said £3mill from the cup runs which im a bit sceptical about. Regardless, those numbers are impressive and probably not what Yodo and his pals want to read.......2 points

What if the sell-on was 50%, but had to be kept confidential so that Celtic fans didn't know the full details? Just because neither club has itemised all the T's & C's for punters on a forum doesn't mean MFC has been shafted.2 points

You do realise that neither Celtic nor Motherwell have confirmed that?2 points

So we’ve signed some hidden gems, we’ve signed some utter duds. That’s football, no? Genuinely interested in what club’s recruitment has been markedly better than ours on a similar budget, perhaps those lambasting Robinson/Foyle could suggest.2 points

Worry that no fee has been mentioned as a fan owned club think the fans are entitled to know how much money is going in the bank account . More worrying is we could be giving Robinson more money to waste in the transfer market ,no mention of any loan players which is good . Just like to wish David all the best and hope he moves on to bigger and better club in the future2 points

I have no great sympathy for Celtic tonight, but the format of the Champions League where actual national champions have to play in qualifying rounds while teams that finish 4th can come in at a later round is just corrupt.2 points

A few people had good second halfs. I felt one player had a solid 90 minutes so I gave it to Mugabi. Thought Gallagher was very poor in comparison..1 point

Read the last 5 words on my post bud. Im not angry, not even bemused. It was obvious this was lined up, probably from last year so its not a surprise. I wish David well, it wouldnt have been my choice, but that means nothing. Il look forward to seeing him make his Scotland debut next month now he has joined them, and Il keep an eye out for him on match of the day in acouple of years The point in my post was that last year it was reported as £3.25m plus "add ons & a sell on" . NOW? Its a deal "that may reach £3.25m". That figure is a bit too specific to be plucked out the air, and journalists nowadays have moles everywhere. No mention of any sell on clause and a fee lower than last year. (Il do the last bit in bold to help you) if that is the case then its a fucking disgrace! We mention sell-ons in every deal we make, strangely quiet on this one. Celtic disclose plenty , ie Tierney fee, Dembele Sell on, Van Dijk Sell On, yet this time its "undisclosed" . Personally, I dont care as I have no control over the running of the club, but as a fan it stinks!1 point

Wish the lad all the best. He has really done right by us signing contract extensions to make sure the club gets decent wedge for him. He says he has always been a Motherwell fan and it is very obvious he is. Like others will be following his career with interest. I hope like Phil and Faddy he comes back to finish his career with us at the end.1 point

If by some miracle we ever got to the group stage proper I’m sure our shirt supplier could sort something out. This no hoop euro shirt excuse is nonsense as UEFA don’t give a toss about what teams wear in the diddy stages of the tournament.1 point

Good luck to David. I hope he is successful and flourishes away from Motherwell. I've always found it strange that often fans are bitter towards guys that did us a turn and moved on rather than the guff that no one else wanted. We'll miss him but he is a major talent and his move to a bigger stage was always going to a matter of when not if. Also, now our entire squad has 1 goal this season.1 point

"A fee that could reach £3.25m" while being vague in detail, the "final fee" is a very exact figure so I think its safe to say there is no sell-on fee! Fucking disgrace and a slap in the face to the fans and club as a whole if that is the case1 point

Is it too much to ask you wait on accounts being published? Being fan owned doesn’t automatically give right to financially sensitive information.1 point

Think it'll be a tough match and not too fussy how we win as long as we progress on the night. Losing DT this week hasn't been ideal timing preparation wise and makes it tougher for us. If we lose this one and I read any shite in the press about Diddy teams harming Scotland's coeffient and making life more difficult for the Bigot Brothers (despite Celtic's capitulation last night) I'll fecking lose it.1 point

From the chairmans remarks Robinson is in wae the bricks can't believe he hasn't been watching the same shite as the fans from Xmas1 point

Just spoken with two Celtic-supporting mates and they have the humility to acknowledge that their team is unlikely to be DT's final destination and they anticipate him moving on for a larger fee, too.1 point

David Turnbull has completed a move to Celtic from Motherwell for a club-record fee. The youth academy graduate leaves after 12 years at Fir Park, having joined our ranks as a nine-year-old in 2008. He has since gone on to make 41 appearances for the club, scoring 16 goals. While the fee can not be disclosed due to a confidentiality clause in the transfer agreement, it vastly exceeds the amount the club received for its previous record sale of Phil O’Donnell, also to Celtic, of £1.75m. “I want to thank everyone at Motherwell, the staff, players and the fans, for everything they’ve done for me so far in my career,” said the player. “Particularly David Henderson, who has helped me so much over the last year. I owe him so much. “I am a Motherwell fan, so I leave with a heavy heart. But I have made memories and friends for life at a club I’ve been involved with all my life.” Motherwell manager Stephen Robinson added: “David is a wonderful player who will go on to big things in his career. “The staff are all delighted to have played a part in his development throughout his career to date. “From a football perspective, it is obviously sore to lose a player of his quality. But that is the model at Motherwell. We develop players to go on to a higher level and he is another success story in that regard. Everyone at Motherwell FC thanks David for his efforts during his long spell at the club, and wish him well for his future career.1 point

Not very often you will hear the following on this forum but Steelboy was right, the non Scottish players don't give a rats arse about the 300 odd years of bigoted rivalry between the ugly sisters. The players you mentioned were only ever at Rangers because they were being paid ridiculous wages every week, that were not on offer anywhere else, and tbe same applies to tbe likes of Sutton, wanyama and van Djyk at Celtic Only the Rangers and Celtic fans care about 10 in a row and the bragging rights it brings the rest of world football could not care less.1 point

I know its asking much but if Turnbull going to Celtic and they wouldn't want him cup tied we should be upping the price. Tonight so important to us financially so going into it without our star player definitely affects our chances1 point
-
Agreed they are a part time side that finished 5th in the NI league so we should be massive favourites, but this was the same story when we played Llanelli and Albion rovers, so a good professional attitude is required from the start. we have better players so I fully expect a comfortable win and a place in the 3rd round draw on Tuesday1 point

It’s my understanding that the rules are not strictly enforced until you reach the the group stages, something that we have sadly never achieved. This is mainly due to cost as UEFA realise that producing special kits to conform with their numbering rules can be costly. That’s the reason why Celtic have occasionally been allowed to wear full hoops in qualifying games. The number/colour contrast issue is the main issue, however, UEFA leave it to the club and the kit manufacturer as to how they interpret the guidelines. As such most clubs/kit providers will take the easy option and leave the back free of hoops/stripes, unless the club colours are of a similar contrast and the numbers can be easily read. Barcelona’s blue/red striped shirts are a good example as the contrast on both shades are similar allowing white numbers to be easily read. As a designer there are very simple ways to get around the number contrast issues, which for reasons unknown kit providers choose not to address. The way I see it, Motherwell should stipulate that they want a full claret hoop and let the kit provider resolve any contrast issues by adapting the design/shirt font to conform, but still providing a historical look. Personally I’ve never been a fan of the front only band as it reduces it to an advertising space rather than an integral part of the shirt design.1 point
