  1. The "Motherwell rollercoaster" chat grinds my gears a bit but I guess it's a perfect description of events yesterday evening. Quite the mixture of emotions. It wasn't a surprise how we lined up nor the aim of attempting to keep the game as tight and restrict Hibs as much as possible. The surprises came later at the point we went two behind. One nil you always have an opportunity. When you go two down that's altogether different. Cole's opportunity and the shot straight at the keeper apart from Allan Campbell I was thinking what a bland, nothing way to exit the competition having struggled to lay a glove on them. And then... I suspect Lamie was simply trying to put the ball back in a dangerous area but it looked the part and suddenly the switch was flicked and it was all Motherwell. I'm trying to imagine what the scenes would have been like had we all been behind that goal, a day on the sauce in the capital and grabbing an 88th minute equaliser in front of us. That would have been carnage! The chance to seal it was the one that just fell out of reach of Lawless and then Cole. That was the moment. Unfortunately it wasn't to be. Kelly continues to impress when facing penalties with another save but when our own players don't make their keeper make a save well... You're left with a mixture of emotions from the despair of the exit, the pride at the recovery from looking totally out of it to taking it virtually the last kick of the ball and what if's about adopting that more positive outlook earlier in the game. We can take credit for sticking with it, feel a bit more encouraged at what we can do when let off the leash but ultimately we're out and that's still a bit of a pisser to wake up to today.

  2. Lamie has shown since Alexander came in that he's actually quite good. No problems whatsoever with him being in the starting XI next year. Some of the doom and gloom stuff above about how we are doomed for relegation and we have a squad of Championship players is just repetitive pish. We've been reading it all season and when it came to it we weren't even really close at all to being relegated. Lighten up a bit.

  3. It grinds my gears too, because pretty much every fan in Scotland outside of the OF goes through what we go through. Ditto for every other league in the world. The expectations may be different depending on the size of the club, but the vagaries of the game are what keep us coming back. You just need to watch a handful of games across the leagues on any given weekend to see that.

  4. Spot on,there all the things we were under robinson when we reached the two cup finals.out of all the teams left i hope st johnstone go on and win it,which would be some achievement.

  5. Said it before lucky teams win cups, which in Scotland means the uglies have lost out in earlier rounds, we have never had that fortune in our last 4 finals, Hibs must be the favourites now., although given their performance tonight would not rule out a St J double.

  7. Yep, I really don’t think it mattered who the other teams were, I just don’t think this squad were a cup winning team. In the other semis we had leaders, this team does not I’m afraid.

  8. That's the way it should be, never had time for all this give the youngsters a chance chat, if they are good enough they will get their chance. We have an opportunity to finish the season in 7th, more prize money etc, so it should be strongest available team at all times. What people don't realise is that the majority of the reserve team / colts won't be good enough to make the step up we will be doing well to get 1 or 2 players stepping up to the 1st team. We have had more than a decent return over recent years with Turnbull, Hastie, Campbell, Erwin, Cadden etc but that us not guaranteed. GA sees these players daily so I assume he knows who might be ready to step up and who is not, so a chance in the 1st team should be on merit not because we are safe in the league.

  10. if you happen to be watching the abdn/dundee utd game, Utd's second goal was something that would have had our fans frothing at the mouth over and calling for the central defenders to be lined up and shot. As weeyin said, there's very little between the SPL teams, outside the gruesome twosome. All capable of being OK and also capable of looking proper shite. Dundee utd got themselves ripped a new one by Killie the other night, all over the park for almost the full 90 mins. Today they're dominating a side well above them in the league. The football being played today is almost non existent. It's an error fest of misplaced passes and miskicks.

  11. One or two decent players make the difference in most SPL sides. Our terrifyingly bad guys are, in most cases, no worse than you'll find at Aberdeen or Hibs. We need a few new faces in the right positions, not another bus load who will inevitably be of lower quality and take half the season to gel. Not easy to find the right faces, but if Alexander can, there's no reason why we can't be top 6 and better.

  12. The other young wingback …… take it your talking about Max Johnston, is injured picked up injury in the week after his debut … according to Alexander on podcast the other night.

  13. Losing Campbell is a loss. I do believe the team expects too much of him. He's a great tenacious guy to break up play, win the ball for us and give to someone else to build. In the past he had Turnbull, Gorin, Polworth and others who knew what to to with the ball. The lack of guile and skill is a real issue for us. If his perm replacements is Crawford then yes, we're going to miss him.

  14. Gorrin ( apart from getting booked too often) is one of best midfielders we’ve had while I’ve been watching the club, technically way better than the vast majority of the others with a good energy level and he got stuck in.

  15. Imagine the meltdown if the same move had seen us knock Hibs out.

  16. I did not watch the game today but have just watched the highlights and I am absolutely raging. The incompetence of officials in this country is beyond belief. What is worse do they not even know the rules? Two players should be between the goal and the attacker and when the goalie steps out they should be well aware of this situation. On Sportscene they glossed over it by saying it was a great move as if that made it alright and then excused the officials as it was an unusual situation. Imagine the meltdown if the same move sees the bigots knocked out tomorrow .

  17. Sooner they leave Scottish football and take all there baggage with them the better, the Scottish game will be better for it. Plus if they did end up in an expanded English premiership / British super league they would quickly find out they are not as good as they think they are. The other 40 clubs in Scotland would be glad to see the back of them. However as Ya Bezzer says it will never happen, the English turkeys won't vote for Christmas, so this is the usual bullshit story that surfaces every few years.

  18. Time to question the manager on bloody awful negative tactics. Positive play only came when his hand was forced. Our defeat today lies squarely at his door.
