  1. If there was ever a year not to win a cup it's this one, albeit would have been better than a kick to ones stones. '91 was amazing. Semis. We were written off as never beaten Celtic in a replay and we know how that turned out. Final. Fans believed that our name was on the cup and sure enough it was. What made those memories was being there. Seeing pyscho's 3rd and then Kirkies 4th was amazing to be in the crowd. In the final I've never seen so many Well fans, the atmosphere was special. One of the best memories I'll ever have as was the following day in the streets of "Well. Watching, shouting at my PC simply isn't the same. My family think I'm a madman and without thousands of like minded guys and girls it wouldn't be the same. Given StJohnston put out Rangers I'd like to see them go on and lift the cup. A group of average players but importantly a very decent team.

  2. Since 1991, I've watched Motherwell win a cup, play in another 4 finals, finish runners-up in the league 3 times, 3rd place 4 times and qualify for Europe on 10 occassions. In my previous 16 years we never made it past a semi-final and got relegated twice. Good luck to the teams that are left in the cup - apart from Hibs and St Mirren - but only one of them will win it, and the rest might spend the next 50 years greetin about the golden opportunity they missed.

  3. Exactly Gaz, same people who fret about cup final tickets or question business decisions when they don't appreciate the nuances of those decisions. It has only been in the last few weeks that the bottom 6 clubs had any sort of real points spread. Thing is regular posters know the naysayers as their record is long played and wearying. Not that long ago a mere two game winning run could take you from 11th to 5th. All that tells us outside the Glasgow's shame there is nothing separating the teams by and large and certainly not a massive leap to Aberdeen and Hibs despite their much higher budgets. As another poster has conveyed, the exact same criticisms levelled at our team bounce about in other teams fans forums like an echo chamber. All that tells me despite managers and executives buming up our game really isn't anywhere near an entertaining product as it could or should be ...... and we'll ignore the lack of competition outside the cups. Our game is characterised by frantic pace and fear of relegation for 8 out of 12 (Aberdeen and Hibs probably arrogantly think they're safe) I'd go as far to add us too this year after our third and "decent" summer business on the transfer market but I do think many of our fans are more humble due to our resources. What's the best solution on the table .... let the OF colts teams join the league to farm more players up to Grayskull and the Tattiedome and increase their dominance. In a week where the rich clubs looking to increase their coffers and stifle competition caused such outrage how can this be overlooked as in the same vein? I for one am fed up of our domestic product, it is chronic and you can only get away with a nae knickers and a fur coat for so long. All we all we do facilitate the precision and if you're good and play nice you'll get a wee cup run once every 5 years. Like everything in life, money has ruined it, pyramid economics to the Bosman all conspired to benefit those at the top of the tree. We unearth a one in 20 year gem from our academy and we get a season out of him, is that what we're signing up to be the best we can hope for?

  4. Lamie has shown since Alexander came in that he's actually quite good. No problems whatsoever with him being in the starting XI next year. Some of the doom and gloom stuff above about how we are doomed for relegation and we have a squad of Championship players is just repetitive pish. We've been reading it all season and when it came to it we weren't even really close at all to being relegated. Lighten up a bit.

  5. McGinley has proved in the last few games that he can be a solid left back for us. He is better defensively than Carroll and when allowed to push up by the manager as he was in the latter stages v Hibs he has shown he can be effective going forward as well. Having struggled at left back for so long, I would have no issues going into next season with McGinley and Carroll as our left back options.

  6. If we can play O’Donnel like that and get a real centre forward we’ll be banging in the goals next season.

  7. Whatever players we bring in as part of this summer's rebuild, be it 1 or 9, I hope we introduce some pace into the squad. Thats something we've been badly lacking this season.

  8. Spot on but you forgot qualifying for the Champions league, for a club our size our record since 91 has been pretty decent , compared with St Johnstone, St Mirren, Killie etc who my have 1 or 2 decent seasons and 25 seasons of achieving nothing mediocrity.

  9. Louis Moult came from non-league Wrexham. Liam Grimshaw came from Man Utd/Preston. Sherwin Seedorf came from Wolves. Tony Watt was a lazy troublemaker. Hits and misses, wherever you go, whatever you pay, it's down to someone having an eye for a player, then a big slice of luck. Someone at Rangers decided to sign Jake Hastie rather than David Turnbull.

  10. If there's no fans in Hampden, it doesn't count as a Cup win. Harsh, I know, but I don't make the rules.

  11. Go on the Saints, they’ve been very refreshing to watch under Callum Davidson and went about that impeccably tonight. I celebrated Zander’s heroics as much as Watt’s equaliser. And yesterday’s subscription to Premier Sports was worth it to see McInnes, McCall, Weir and Craigan devastated. From a Motherwell perspective, it’s a case of what could have been when you think of both the League and Scottish cup semi final line-ups. In truth though, I’d much rather see a Motherwell squad I have genuine affection for win the cup.

  12. Gorrin ( apart from getting booked too often) is one of best midfielders we’ve had while I’ve been watching the club, technically way better than the vast majority of the others with a good energy level and he got stuck in.

  13. We can certainly debate some of his decisions and tactics since his arrival but credit where it's due he pulled us out of a tailspin . Don't think many on this forum thought we could win today but it was good to see a bit of spirit on show . Yes he will need to perform major surgery on that team we have no quality in midfield and I wish Alan Campbell well wherever he ends up because he has to leave us to progress we really have burnt him out . The transfer window will be interesting for us fans ,let's see what GA can produce on the pitch next season it's got to be better than we have watched recently or rightly so he will be criticised
