This last page alone really shows how out of touch with reality some fans are about Motherwell true'place in the football food chain. It is a minor miracle that Motherwell finish 4th/5th in our league, end of story. It is a minor miracle that Motherwell have retained their top division status since the mid 80's. Baraclough took over a team that was heading for relegation when he took over in December and saved it from relegation, thumping one of the two biggest teams in the country 6-1. A superb achievement!! Ask Hibs fans, ask Aberdeen fans, ask Dundee Utd fans, ask Hearts fans what it really feels like to underachieve. Alexander has saved us from relegation in his first season, attained a top six finish (with European football) in his second. He has earned our backing. The notion that Motherwell have historically been a free flowing attractive football team untill this season is complete make believe. What is not make believe is that for a small club, we have massively over achieved spanning the last 4 decades including this season. Cause for celebration and congratulations to every single board member, manager, player that has contributed to what should be a very proud history. Look at our European qualification record since the turn of the century. Something that many Scottish football fans can only dream of. We really need to enjoy these times. We will not always be so successful.6 points

Putting aside the 2 draws at Ibrox this season, in the 70s, 80s and 90s Rangers and Celtic were in various states of financial crisis and we even had Aberdeen and Dundee Utd win the league (and Hearts blow a title chance when they should have won it). There was a financial disparity between the clubs, but not nearly as wide as it is now. As someone who grew up in an era of 70s, 80s & 90s you will have witnessed the restructuring of the leagues, the re-structuring of the prize money and tv money and the restructuring of the gate money from 50/50 to home team keeps everything. All these things were instigated by the OF with the sole intent of making them richer and ensuring the gap between them and the rest of us widened to the extent it would be impossible for us to compete. The rest of the clubs, including ours, bent over to accommodate them because they were scared the OF would leave the Scottish League. It happened everywhere of course, from the EPL to the Champions League. All of it designed to keep the rich richer and reduce actual competition. It could be changed, but nobody in Scotland has the balls to do it. So at least for my lifetime I don't expect we'll be able to offer much competition at Parkhead and Ibrox when they can pay individual players more in a year than our entire salary budget.5 points

I could actually stomach some of the pumpings if they were offset by the occasional victory.2 points

We shouldnt accept a 6-0 any time, I don't care about budgets. Think of the fans that paid to go and watch that. Anyway wed night was the main one so let's all just have a good summer and hope GA gets his new signings and clear out correct or we will have problems.. COYW2 points

6-0 was not unexpected ? Really? Its a bad day if any of our fans expected 6-0 today. Pathetic spineless clueless.2 points

Recently Celtic have beat Rangers 3-0 at home, Ross County 4-0, Hearts 4-1, St Johnstone 7-0. It's not utterly embarrassing. It's business as usual. What's utterly embarrassing is folk like you taking any excuse to slate the team and the manager. Give it a rest. You all sound like you'd divorce the wife if she burned the parsnips.2 points

Not to worry guys because "were all going on a European tour"....with one of the worst teams and managers we've ever had. Utterly embarrassing .2 points

Celtic are miles and miles and miles ahead of us at the best of times. They are celebrating a title win at home in front of 50,000. We are in holiday mode after achieving what we needed to. This was always going to happen and it doesn't really matter.2 points

Early kick off live on sky. I would be happy with a draw or a win. Claret and Amber colours true they’ll remember Motherwell.1 point

Well I know that spending a lot of money leaves you with less in your bank account than not spending a lot of money. If that means I'm more fiscally clued up than you, then yes. I wouldn't make claims about being older and wiser because an old, wise person would never do that.1 point

I am expecting about 50 plus dvds then as punishment for my patter!!! Lol1 point

The league needs to be drastically redesigned to provide a competition in the absence of that ever happening we have to accept that it will be won be either side of the OF for evermore, the chase for the top 6 and relegation is what's left for everyone else, this does however provide some entertainment for the fans. The only other hope is for a real quality manager to lift one of the other mediocre teams to challenger.1 point

Usually, I would have agreed with this but sadly can't as the boy's form has dropped off a cliff to the extent that many of the fans of a below average Hibernian regard him as the worst signing in many a year. As a follower of Scotland Under 21's I can also say that Scott having begun the current campaign is now entirely off the selection radar. Many people have theories on why his profile has diminished. But as a prospect to improve our team? Sadly, not for me.1 point

What a season that was! Can’t wait for the DVD release to re-live it all again.1 point

I grew up in an era when the OF didnt like playing us in the 70s 80s and 90s , sure we took some beatings then too but at least we could land a glove on them every other season to compensate. Not now its just an endless procession of winless games..they now must piss themselves with excitement facing us.1 point

Ok take care goodbye 21/22 and all Steelmen world wide. See you all next season COYW1 point

Hearts got gubbed off them last week despite having a far more expensive team out. You need to get a lot of things right to get a result away to the OF and we aren't going to manage it with Efford and Shields wandering about aimlessly up front and some joker from the Malaysian league at wing back. Hearts are getting gubbed at home to Rangers B at the moment for some perspective.1 point

If we needed any further clarification, today proves how critical this summer is. We absolutely must bring in a first choice left back, 2 centre halves, 2 central midfielders and 2 strikers in the summer; all of whom need to be first choice starters. That’s 7 players and the spine of a team that we desperately need. We need a couple of senior leaders in the middle of the park and central defence. The rest are simply not up to it: Carroll, McGinley, Grimshaw, Nierenold, Goss, Donnelly, Amaluzor, Roberts, Efford should all be away by the time European competition starts. ———————Kelly SoD/Mugabi——X———X———X —X—Slattery/Cornelius——X —X———-Van Veen——X Subs: Fox Solholm Ojala Woolery Maguire Shields Tierney1 point

I don't see any lack of effort. What I do see is Celtics players being far ahead in terms on skill, speed of thought and movement. We're chasing shadows. The gap will only get bigger with the money the Mould Firm get for being in Europe.1 point

He also scored against Hearts in the league and Montrose in the league cup but it was a bit strange that he got 4 out of 5 league goals against Rangers.1 point

We are utter shite though. And yep thats the reason I picked that example. That team were so bad we ended up in the playoffs and then smashed Rangers. All I'm saying is that we have regressed to such an extent that they would also destroy us. A team with Pearson, McManus and McDonald through the spine, and Ainsworth and Johnson on the wings would totally destroy our current team if they showed up primed for the event. Carrol v on-form Lionel? Come on. Skippy v Ojala? Pearson and Las v Goss and Slattery? Now line our current team up with McGhee's first season or McCalls superstars. Its frightening to imagine the outcome. Now of course we don't need to worry about it, we are finishing 4th or 5th but it just shows how poor not only Motherwell have got in a relatively short number of years, but the rest of the league as well.1 point

I saw him in Hamilton on Wednesday afternoon. He got out his car and looked like he was going shopping. True story.1 point

Maybe. There's certainly some characters on this forum who've not been as active since the full-time whistle last night as they would have been had we lost.1 point

Not sure what line up will be or how we will approach the game but would be great to take a point or 3 to finish the season on a high after qualifying for Europe.1 point
