Many of us probably did hang on to Hammell too long because of his playing career. But thats called loyalty and the kind of thing you earn from playing over 500 games and displaying impeccable attitude throughout. Anyway, its time to move on. Hammell is gone, Van Veen is playing well again and the team are winning. Id prefer to focus on that instead of getting involved in petty point scoring debates. KVV has a real shot at 30 goals with 7 games left. Think I will channel my energies into helping him achieve that!

It wouldn’t matter who the manager was, Europe is a level way beyond our reach and we are never going to compete at there. I know it’s obviously good for the club, on paper at least but if we’re being honest Europe to us is a few glorified friendlies at the start of a season. I view it as an added bonus for (normally) a good season in the league and a 3rd/4th placed finish, or even better, winning a Cup. It is not though some kind of holy grail as alot of our fans seem to think it is and when it is achieved in the spawny, lucky manner we did it last year then it feels even less of a bonus. Did it though? I always thought that prize money for playing in European competition wasn’t handed out until the end of the campaign, so if so we won’t have seen a penny of that money yet. And to be honest I doubt we get that much that we would be able to sufficiently invest in the squad anyway. No I don’t. I didn’t even predict a defeat in this thread so your post just looks silly. Hard to argue with success. As such, players who are unhappy about not making the team have two options, take the hump or do something in training to grab the attention of the manager. While waiting for their chance they just have to remain patient and believe that the chance will come. When it does they need to be ready to grab it with both hands. It really isn’t a bad position to be in from the perspective of the club.

In this league if you only have one 'style' your success will be short lived as other teams will figure it out. Happens all the time when managers have a good run in one set of fixtures and then when they play teams a second time round they are sussed. It's one of the biggest reasons why no team, outside the OF, can really put together any kind of consistency. Also, it's possible to have a base structure and then adapt that depending on what is happening in a match. That's really the key to being a good manager. Making intelligent changes in response to the flow of the match. Not rigidly sticking to one system for 90 minutes every week. I'm not saying McKinstry should be starting matches, as has rightly been said we are in form right now, but I don't think it's literally impossible for him to play a part in this side.

I questioned his attitude, and at the time wasnt the only one. If you cant see the difference in his body language then and now, theres no helping you. There has never been any question over his ability. Maybe Hammell was the problem, and thats fair enough. Kettlewell certainly seems to be getting more of a tune out of him. But as a player you can choose to deal with it one of 2 ways. My opinion was he had chucked it too easily. Anyway, enjoy the rest of your night!

Money from being in Europe allowed us to sign players to keep us up. Getting Europe is always a positive.
