After leaving County and dealing with his legal issues I don't think Paton had kicked a ball for at least 6 months before he joined us; never mind done any training. A better time to judge will be once he has a pre-season behind him.5 points

That's not how it works, this isn't a Football Manager video game. There will be players we're sounding out who are weighing up our offer alongside other options. We can't just sit back and wait on the top priority players to make their decisions or become available before we sign other squad players. Not all the dominos are going to fall into line as we'd like them to. It doesn't work that way.2 points

Paton isn’t as bad as people make him out to be, but also not amazing. Kettlewell has been brilliant so far, hopefully he follows it up with some decent recruitment and we can challenge for top six.2 points

Wasn't really , they probably didnt make a tackle between them tho, horses for courses...it's easier to teach someone to track back than to get them to ping a good pass.1 point

If we have a creative midfielder that can make a pass, I don't care if they sit down and light up in the middle of the centre circle when the times are tough. That's why you also sign midfielders with good engines that can tackle. You tend to get more tough times more often if you don't have at least one passer in the team.1 point

Take your point but that's why you need grafters in with him...he is a good " footballer" .1 point

Good advice, or if someone is posting extremes , e.g he's absolutely shit or brilliant...they are usually looking for attention or have a mental health condition. I think Harry Paton looked absolutely brilliant last season.1 point

The trick is to look and see who is posting the criticism..........then ignore it. It works for me.1 point

I don't quite get the some of the comments about Harry Paton. He had a lot of catching up to do last season and we didn't really see a lot of him. I doubt he'll be one of the top "stars" but SK obviously sees something in him. Time will tell and the jury is still out for me.1 point

Good luck to Dean however hate to say it but he wont be missed really as he goes missing so much in games sometimes I forgot he was actually playing. We have not lost anything that can't be replaced more worried about the Forward situation than anything else.1 point

I think any club that has contributed to his development up to the age of 23 gets training compensation of some kind.1 point

He certainly ran around if that's what you mean, but I can think of very few examples of him providing 'drive'. Phil O'Donnell provided drive, Alan Campbell provided drive. Dean Cornelius did not.1 point

Any development fee will be due to Hibs. Best we can hope for is a sell-on clause.1 point

Hard to do when your hands are tied due to money .. but of course you must expect him to turn water into wine like he did last season .. Give the guy a chance FFS..1 point

I think Paton is an upgrade on Cornelius, so no problem with this one.1 point

I don't know who's available but I know that we picked up Obika at the deadline in January and pulled Paton out a job centre in March. The priority should be signing starters first when we have the most budget to work with then if we need duds to round out the squad get them last minute where there are always plenty of Obika/Paton types available. Butcher is out injured for the few months of the season. That just leaves Kelly in terms of players we can rely on. The squad is as bad as it's ever been.1 point

I see Dean invested in a new hairpiece for his new club, I take it he was away to Turkey a jolly. I hope the move works out for him.1 point

Two year deal? We are getting the cunt ripped out of us on a grand scale. I take it Kettlewell and Paton share an agent?1 point

The form he was in I have no doubt he would have continued to score Was hoping as well he would be here at least til the end of the transfer window and banged in a few more league, and cup goals by then1 point

That's a very good move for Grimmy, quite surprised by that to be honest.1 point

I know I am in a very small small minority here but I was a fan of last season’s home kit, it is actually one of my favourites in recent years I totally get why people look for a traditional looking Well kit, my favourite of all time for example was the 1994-1996 home kit Though I am definitely not against the idea of something that looks slightly different now and then , what looked worse for me was the 2004/2006 home kit with the blue Zoom Airlines lettering across the front . Have happy memories of that era though1 point

A very dangerous thing to do. By doing so you might miss a gem of information. Nobody is all right or all wrong.0 points

No offence taken at all as I said I hope it works out for him and one day he comes back here a better player for Motherwell. However facts or not some murmurs were said about Dean not being a guaranteed starter hence that swayed his decision not saying that’s factual or not, in my post I said it as an example, obviously a reason a boyhood fan would leave the club when offered a new deal, again maybe not factual but could be down to money etc too. Regarding Paton I don’t see him being a starter, Spittal, Slattery and hopefully Goss re-signs so there’s a pretty strong middle 3 that will start most games unless better come in.0 points
