We sign players to play football. If they aren’t playing football, for whatever reason other than being injured then what are we paying them for? To train well? To sing songs and dance through the meadows? If they are not going to play then we move them on and that’s what the manager said yesterday. But yes, let’s leave it at that.4 points

Amber and orange are totally different colors, so I scoff at any sectarian comparisons. However, we should wear it against Celtic anyway.3 points

None of the players mentioned are "stealing a wage." That kind of pish is ridiculous. There's players in our squad who simply don't fit with what the manager is looking to do. That's not on them, they're available for selection (if fit) and would most likely be happy to play if given the chance. Players like Shields can be accused of many things, such as not being up to the level needed, but of "stealing a wage"? Not for me.3 points

Just typical nonsense from the ugly sisters and their minions. Apparently everything is about them.2 points

steal: to take something without the permission or knowledge of the owner and keep it I'm pretty sure the club knowingly gave permission to pay the players they chose to put under contract.2 points

I completely agree. And on a serious note I think this is a braw kit and a lot nicer than our previous claret effort in 2018. If anyone takes a dislike to this purely because it has ‘a sash’ and somehow they associate it with Rangers and OO bigots then they need to take a good look at themselves, imo.2 points

The best way to do that is by not being sectarian. If we can't revive a classic kit design in the 21st century because some small minded bigots can only associate a diagonal stripe with the Orange Order, then we'll never make any progress.2 points

Casey in the promo for the new away kit. Result!! Him and butcher, when he’s fit, at the back fills me with more confidence2 points

A player weighing up his options and choosing us doesn't sound that bad to me.2 points

That would be excellent if true, I wonder if it does materialise that one of Lamie or Mugabi would be moving on. It's not been too bad a week or so with St Mirren getting landed with Mandron, and Danzaki moving on and by all accounts, it sounds like Shields will be following suit.2 points

Thanks to weeyin on the other thread, looks like Elgin TV has it: https://tv.elgincity.net/event/64abce403c488f7efe5cd6221 point

If you cant see the difference between that and the new kit, then there is no explaining it. We live in the West of Scotland. I dont care about upsetting Celtic fans, but I dont want to be associated with an orange sash......1 point

Not getting into huge debate but someone who isn't a game isn't a wage stealer.....they are just not good enough for the first team1 point

No need to be confused. What you describe is actually a “collarette”. A “sash” is worn over the shoulder. Ours is a diagonal band1 point

Are you serious? Rangers didn't invent " the sash" , if it works , it works Have we to stop designing new strips because of some link only people in west if Scotland will understand , just in case Celtic fans get offended?1 point

On a separate note, it just dawned on me that it has the look of a South American style kit.1 point

It's not "end of story" though, because you're blatantly wrong. But let's leave it there. You clearly aren't going to budge, and I'm not going to tell you that you're correct when you're not.1 point

We’re a football club. If we have players on our books under contract who are not playing games or likely to break into the first team then they are stealing a wage, end of story. It might not be a nice or ‘PC’ term for it, but that’s what it is.1 point

It absolutely isn't the same at all. Those players would be "stealing a wage" if the manager wanted to pick them, but they were making up excuses for not being able to play, claiming injuries that couldn't be confirmed nor denied by the medical team and so on. Those players walking around the building aren't involved simply because the manager doesn't want to involve them. There's a huge difference there. They are still training diligently, making themselves available for selection. So they are fulfilling their side of the contract that they signed. They're not "stealing a wage."1 point

I agree. As a club we need to rid ourselves of any suggestions of us being Rangers fans without the bus fare and having sash on a kit which is just like a sash worn by Orange orde….erm, well, it’s actually not like those ones at all….but Rangers like sashes! Fuckin Rangers! I’m very uncomfortable seeing this kit. 🤑1 point

That band looks far too much like a sash for my liking. If it was horizontal rather that diagonal I think it would have worked better.1 point

re Johnston I don't see an outcome that the club would have won or been able to tie him into a contract. He came through the ranks and got some first team exposure. He went out on loan came back, still wasn't ready . Went out again and came back ready. So with captain hindsight goggles the narrative is the boy needs to sign an extended contract with us or we don't let him go out on loan. Really, why would he do that ? He could still sit tight and leave or asked to be released early. He had very good football people around him who knew exactly how to look after Max J. I struggle to see how we'd have been able to force his hand on this one, particularly without repetitional damage. It's overly easy to criticise the club. When all said and done we've got a pretty decent wedge for a guy who played a dozen games. He may go on to the next big thing , he may not. When all said and done it's another example of us producing a promising youngster, which works nicely for our model long term.1 point

That’s not what I’m saying atall though is it? What the manager was, or appeared to be referring to was players who were completely out of the picture and had no future at the club. Danzaki, Aitchison being the obvious ones. Then you throw in McKinstry (a loanee who was always going to return to Leeds) and Shields (who was loaned out in January and clearly isn’t in the managers plans). I think it was obvious that the manager had identified who was going to feature for him and who wasn’t. Danzaki wasn’t in contention for a start ahead of Miller, Cornelius or Obika towards the end of last season. To give just one example.0 points

Okay. I’ll rephrase it then. If we are terminating the contracts of individuals who are being embursed to make a material effect for the club on the field of play but are sadly falling short of that expectation for whatever reason which may or may not be any fault of their own, then I think we are displaying prudence and sound judgement. That better?0 points

He might not have actually used the term itself but SK saying that players walking about the club doing nothing is basically saying that players are stealing a wage. It’s the same in any job, if you aren’t contributing then you are stealing a wage, simple as that. Definitely. I’m surprised and delighted with this news.0 points
