  1. My view on the appointment. Well first of all I'm working off very little information. First things first, three kids in Denmark! I mean, that's only a semi serious point cos Wimmer definitely didn't leave because of his kids. On the face of it his managerial record is a bit meh but probably within the range you'd expect a Motherwell manager to be in. Most of his 'good' spells have been at pretty low levels of football and it's noticeable that Goteborg got worse when he was there and better when he left. The thing that jumps out at me though is his terms as manager have been pretty short (albeit not as short as Wimmer!). A year at Vendsyssel, a year at Goteborg, a year and a half at Horsens. Also the fact that he's given up manager positions to become assistant manager else where strikes me as a bit odd. He does seem to have a track record of developing youth but that might just be other leagues and other countries develop youth much better than Scotland, which is one of the worst in Europe. Anyway, I'm £500 in next season, so hopefully he does well but as I've said previously I think the whole Wimmer situation has kinda sabotaged our close season and prep for the upcoming season. Factor in the current squad, our best player almost certainly leaving and the fact that Livingston and ourselves will be the two smallest clubs in the division next season (two smallest clubs got relegated last term) and maybe it's a case of looking at next season, taking a deep breath and adopting a grim countenance. We've yet to see a ball kicked and there is still a lot of close season to pass but I'd be very cautious right now about any hopes and aspirations.

  2. I think we need to write off Nicholson, Robinson and Stuparevic from the squad. They are unlikely to contribute anything this season. Miller will obviously also be gone at some point. That leaves us Oxborough, Ward SOD, Koutroumbis, McGinn, Balmer, Wilson, McGhee Sparrow, Halliday, Slattery, Fadinger, Wells, Ross Stama, Maswanhise Of those out of contract, I think the only one Id try to keep is Seddon and at a push Paton. Thats a squad of 18 at present, which I would say leaves us room for at least 4 signings to improve the quality available for the starting 11 and resign some of the existing squad to places on the bench. If Sylla is one of those, I think we need a centre half, attacking midfielder, and a striker (2 would be nice).

  3. We are certainly behind in terms of our stadium.

  4. Playing right backs as central defenders is as productive as playing goalies as number 10s.

  5. Yep! Definitely need at least 1 solid centre back to go with Gordon and perhaps another for back up. My take on McGhee was that he would be a defensive midfielder, not part of a back 3 or 4. Could put McGinn there at a push but would rather keep him for right full back to fight it out with Koutroumbis for starting position. Or switching them out during games to keep up the energy level needed for an overlapping full back.

  6. That also rules out Strathclyde Park.

  7. Until you've paid all the necessary tariffs, try this one

  8. You missed Gordon. 3-4 signings sounds about right. Unless Robinson is due back soon, we need 2 forwards. Maybe Ross, Fadinger, or Wells are considered part of a front 3? I wonder if we will take advantage of the flexible loan thing that starts this year, to keep the young players getting minutes but still being available for us.

  9. Armstrong is back at Carlisle as far as I'm aware.

  10. I’m assuming that Miller will be off soon, so I’m looking forward to us getting a nice hefty sum up front and the chance of some future add ons. I’m hoping we don’t squander any money on transfers but rather use it to be a bit more competitive on the salary front and enable us to better compete for some higher quality players. To be honest if we can replace Miller with two or three better quality players than we currently have in our squad we won’t miss him that much. With the team and tactics we’ve had the last few years we have not got the best out of him. We basically restricted his ability to play to his full potential by the way we played and the “support” we provided around him. So my comment about not missing him that much is a reflection on Motherwell FC and not on Miller. His talent and ability is there for everyone to to see but we were just never able to take full advantage of it.

  12. Where's Oor Graeme for a quick reminder, so that we can compare the two?

  13. The new kit? It's okay given the way the club has messed about with it over the years. At least there are no white shorts. I don't like the pin stripes and I HATE the fact the chest band only goes half way round. But at least it doesn't look like a Galatasaray training top like last year's effort. For me, the best strips in my lifetime were the 1994-96 top, the 2010-11 top and the 2023-24 top. Primarily because the chest band went all the way round but the relative, traditional simplicity of them also helped. The chest band only the front only looks half-assed and janky, too much "frippery" takes away from what is a strong traditional look and white shorts just look daft. White shorts were never "traditional". They were just the only colour available back in the day unless you used black. In the 30s there was a rule the home team HAD to wear white shorts, while the away team HAD to wear black. The advent of coloured shorts was a godsend for clubs like Motherwell with more original colours. When I grew up in the 70s, I didn't know Motherwell had a unique, traditional strip of their own. I wondered why our strip continually changed while others maintained their own unique look. I was thrilled to discover we had the amber top with claret chest band as a distinctive traditional strip. It should be one of the most distinctive, attractive and recognisable tops in football. Instead it is mucked about with and turned into some of the most hideous crimes against football fashion ever committed. Harrumph!

  15. I would very much doubt that. If the club have been happy where we are training and have been for the last few years I don't see them changing that.
