  1. I watched an old interview with Skippy recently, and you can see he was still annoyed about Celtic fans asking him why he scored and celebrated on Skippy Sunday. As he pointed out, he's a professional footballer playing for his team and his team mates (and his win bonus that paid for his summer holiday at that time). And went on to say the Celtic fans shouldn't have been asking him why he did his job, they should have been asking the Celtic players why they didn't do their's. The same goes for whoever finishes second this season. Should have done a better job.

  2. Noticing a trend recently with opposition targeting Just for 'special' treatment. Were all three Hearts bookings for fouls on him?

  3. We’re getting pumped on Wednesday. 1-4

  4. Not all contact in football is a foul though. Kyziridis clearly threw himself to the ground and McInnes is an odious prick. The ref got that one right and clearly thought he went down too easily, so disagreed with VAR.

  5. I seen someone use the word ‘absorbing’ elsewhere and that perfectly describes last night for me. What a treat this season has been with the general quality and tempo of football, complemented by electric atmospheres. We may have been under par in possession last night and more broadly, getting a little unstuck with our no.9 options in the last two months, but we coped admirably well with a Hearts team that threw the kitchen sink at us. SoDs our motm by a distance and huge credit to Gordon for being so solid. It’s no coincidence though that we aren’t as effective on the ball with McGinn and Fadinger missing. One more memorable night at Fir Park required before we inevitably say farewell to key members of this very special group.

  8. Any game we dont lose, we are outstanding, especially against the potential champions tonight, we were always trying to get forward and were in their faces, and looked threatening when we did, we defended very well, Ward never had a difficult save to make even when Hearts were pressing hard we looked solid. So all in all i think an outstanding performance is a fair assessment of how the game went

  9. Just has been targeted for a while now yet, despite looking like a frail teenager, he gets up and gets on with it, to his credit. The game today doesn't have a giant like "Tiny" Wharton who would have sorted out a team like Hearts who simply and cynically shared out the fouls on Elijah to stifle him yesterday. As Grumpy hints, I doubt this treatment would be tolerated if he played for either of the OF, just another hurdle a team like Motherwell have to cope with in the Scottish game. I'm going to go full Kevin Keegan now and say I would love it, really love it if we beat the Seat-Smashers on Wednesday, mainly because they seem to think both JBA and Just will inevitably end up at Celtic Park next year. Their sense of entitlement really gets on my nazzums.

  10. An epic night last night. Our largest crowd for 21 years; an imaginative display by Block E; and a fantastic atmosphere. Even heard singing in the POD! More of all that next season please. Over the piece, a draw was the correct result. Hearts got in our faces and dictated the nature of the game. For our part not our best display but not bad and we displayed resilience and durability in spades. Before kick off I had decided that I wanted Hearts to win the league title but on leaving the ground, I had altered my opinion. They were cynical and targeted Just from the kick off. Very much Alex Ferguson/Matt Busby tactics "win at all costs" . Simple management from Derek McInnes just do it and don't get caught. Years ago, after several bad fouls on target player a ref like Tiny Wharton would march over threateningly to the captain of the guilty side, grab him by the throat and tell him to gather his charges around and spell out to them that no further such fouls would be tolerated. Make no mistake those fouls on Just weren't random they were orchestrated pre match, by Mr McInnes. A enthralling tense match but a bit short on quality. Our midfield allowed Hearts just too much space. Up front, I felt really sorry for TJ who had little chance of beating Hearts', defensive leviathans in the air. Oh how we miss a big striker!! SOD and Longelo were my top picks. What a goal saving clerance from SOD. I don't think its unfair to suggest that Callum Ward could have done better at their goal. Steven MacLean made a lot of minor errors but got the major ones right. Shankland's push on Welsh at their goal - very soft but I wouldn't have given it. Longelo's arm ball in the box - 100% a penalty but rightly chalked off for the push on Priestman beforehand. Kyziridis's claim? Very soft but right decision see Stephen Welsh's claim. A well earned point that helps us in our quest for 4th place. We may have to rely on Sevco though.

  13. This is desperate, desperate stuff, intit? The Celtic "fairy dust" isn't as strong as their deluded fans imagine. I remember Tommy Coyne telling them where they could go when they came sniffing around him again during his long, hot spell at Fir Park (wottaguy!). All our boys will be out for the three points on Wednesday so COYW!

  14. Funniest scenario would be if JBA gives Halliday a 3 minute "goodbye" cameo at the end of the match and he concedes a pen that leads to a Celtic win. The OF conspiracy nuts would be trying to work that one out until this time next year.

  15. I read a few Sevco fans already spouting their conspiracy theories last night that Motherwell were going to lie down to Celtic because of all the "Celtic connections" in our team and because JBA wants the Celtic job. Peak OF paranoia. You'd think if they were that worried they wouldn't have rolled over in today's game.

  16. Celtic have kept 1 clean sheet in their last 12 league matches and that was against St Mirren who can't score against anyone. So there should be at least 1 goal there for us. Celtic's last 5 away matches they have a draw, a loss and three jammy 2-1 wins. Clearly this game is doing to be down to how we defend. If we can keep Celtic to 1 or 0 we are probably getting something out the game. We have some defensive issues but only Falkirk have scored more than once against us at Fir Park since August so I still think we should be going into this match with confidence. And lets remember we are playing for guaranteed European football so it's not like are just playing to spoil someone else's party. Although that would be nice too...

  17. Just seems to have an auto-charge function. He runs about like a maniac, gets chopped and looks like he's crocked. Then 10 seconds later, jumps back up again and off he goes. If he has a strong World Cup he could bring in a nice transfer fee. Not that I want him to leave, but he's been my player of the season. Fantastic business bringing him in.

  18. He definitely has been targetted. The number of fouls committed on him in the last few games has been quite ridiculous. I know he is quick and often nips the ball away before his opponent, but they are all leaving the foot in to ensure they stop him breaking away. Thankfully he is young(ish) and quite hardy for a wee guy.

  19. Last time we beat them with SOD, Sparrow, McGinn and Koutroumbis at the back and no centre forward.

  20. Re the penalties. For me, Kyziridis is running away from goal and has lost control of the ball. There is slight contact from Maswanhise, but Kyziridis heels are spring loaded and he throws himself to the ground quite embarassingly. Ive seen them given, and I would have been screaming for it, but I think McLean gets that right, and fairplay to him for standing his ground. My justification for that is the foul on Welsh for Shanklands goal. I dont think there was enough in that either, but there is way more contact than the penalty claim and the push stops Welsh getting any sort of jump on the ball. Boyd and McFadden apply double standards there. If they think Kyziridis is a stonewall pen then it has to be a foul on Welsh. You cant have it both ways. As for JTs pen. I was certain it was a pen at the game but when you see it slowed down, he definitely kicks the Hearts players leg and loses his balance. No pen for me.

  23. If you watch it back the Hearts fans barely even claim for the Pen.
    1 point
  24. Yes and if that pen had been given, so should Maswanhise's, since there was contact on his shin, though not much. We also had a claim for a hand ball from Watt's shot, though I can't understand why Longelo's arm ball in the first half wan't looked at by VAR (or spotted by the linesman and referee). Overall I think a draw was fair but Treacle Tan Man is rather annoying with his fake outrage. "If they overturn, there can be no guesswork, why is that such a difficult notion 🤷‍♂️ well done to mclean for sticking, would have been easy to cave in there. " Spot-on, mfc88.

  25. Thoroughly enjoyed that game last night and, all things considered, a point feels like a decent result. I’ve given Gordon stick before so it’s only fair I give him some praise after that performance. I thought he showed up really well and has clearly been listening to the coaching. He looked a much improved footballer last night, so credit where it’s due. He should be pleased with his efforts.

  28. I think we Came out ok today with VAR probably our worst performance of the season from stats point of view. So not too bad when your worst stats performance gets you a point.

  33. Personally, I think there’s a middle ground here. I agree that “investment” is a word we need to be careful with. Motherwell simply isn’t the kind of club where someone comes in, puts money in, and gets a normal business return from profits. That’s just not how it works for clubs our size. The latest accounts show the club is in a reasonably solid position, but we’re not sitting on huge profits. So if an investor is coming in looking for dividends, control, security over assets, or some guaranteed route to make money, that’s where I’d be taking a long, hard look at their intentions. Where I do think there’s a difference is between bad investment and properly structured strategic investment. The Hearts/Bloom deal is interesting to me for that reason. Bloom put in something like £9.9m for just shy of 30%, but those are non-voting shares if I recall. Hearts/FoH also state that player trading revenue stays with the club, so it doesn’t look like he’s taking a direct cut of any transfers. His upside seems to be tied to the value and success of his stake, not stripping money out of transfer fees. When it comes to Motherwell, I’d be against selling control. Completely against it. But, I wouldn’t be against the right minority deal if it was properly protected. Something like: minority stake only fan control protected ideally non-voting shares no security over Fir Park no right to force asset sales no direct claim on transfer income clear exit terms clear limits on board influence money going into sustainable growth, not just short-term spending The above is very different from just handing the club over to someone. Hibs is probably a bit of a warning sign. Foley/Black Knight came in for 25% at £6m I think, but the relationship didn’t work out from what I read and the stake has now been bought back. That doesn’t prove outside investment is always a bad idea, but it does show that alignment is crucial. Money on its own isn’t enough if the investor’s model, timescale or expectations don’t fit the club. So I’d say organic growth should still be the base case. That’s the safest route, and we do seem to be in a better position now than we were during the car crash that was the Barmack discussion. But I also wouldn’t be shutting the door completely. If someone credible came in with capital, expertise, no demand for control, and a structure that protected the Society and the club, then I think we’d have to look at it seriously. The key for me is that we shouldn’t be looking for “an investor” in the generic sense. We should only be interested in a very specific type of potential partner. Basically, one who strengthens the club without owning the club. Which is hard to find.
