  1. Penalty incident aside, some of our supporters really need a reality check. JBA has given us a team to be exceptionally proud of, regardless of how it ends. We outplayed a Celtic team for large parts of last night's contest - and this is a team chasing a title. Celtic's first goal was simply a moment of good fortune and an exceptional finish. The second was wonder strike. Yes, the season has not ended how we hoped and yes we may not get European football, but please look at the bigger picture. A squad that now has several very valuable assets - not all will be sold in the summer, but those who do go should fetch a more than decent fee, securing not only our short-term, but long-term future. A brand of football that many in the league envy - and so far distanced from what's been served up over the past few seasons. Crowds on the rise and a proper connection between club and its supporters. All of the above forms a very solid foundation and while JBA will be a wanted man, he will depart with us in good health both on and off the field, so much so we could entice some real managerial talent. Look at others in and around us. Hibernian may yet get fourth, but financially they are in a mess. Falkirk will be under pressure to repeat their efforts this season, and will likely have to do so losing one or two vital players from their squad. Aberdeen are in transition - a bloated squad full of under-achievers on big wages. Dundee, Dundee Utd and Kilmarnock will all undergo a turnover of players this summer, as will St Mirren should they stay up. St Johnstone have momentum and should compete, but for them consolidation will be the main aim. We have a wonderful opportunity to build on the foundations of this season. There is money in the bank, with more coming. European football would be an attractive proposition for any targets, but I don't think it's a deal breaker. JBA will have learned a lot from these last couple of months. Injuries haven't helped, and neither has a few players having a dip in form at an important stage of the season, but when you play all season at the intensity JBA wants, it's only natural some players will begin to feel the effects. A top six finish, a cup semi-final, challenging for European football - all of us would have bitten a hand off if this scenario had been offered to us before the season started. I think back to all the supporters at the start of the season who were critical of this style of play and how it would never work. Time and patience is in short supply in modern football, but for those who can't see what's being built then I feel sorry for you.

  2. Sparrow's best game in a Motherwell shirt. Maswanhise was miles off it.

  3. I thought Motherwell were fantastic tonight. Really, really unlucky in key moments of the game but the travesty of the penalty aside, it is equally a travesty if we as Motherwell fans cannot appreciate that performance tonight That team did not bottle it tonight. They were the better side in almost every aspect of the game and but for two moments of real quality from Maeda and Nygren they would have won the match.

  4. Just been an interview with ex Celtic Captain, Paul Lambert on Talksport >Shouldn't have been a pen >Crowd pressure influencing refs >Martin O'Neil pandering to fans saying it was a clear pen.

  5. I heard Chris Sutton today defend the decision by saying that John Beaton made a subjective decision that it was a hand ball and that is enough. The point of VAR is that the subjectivity is removed and the referee makes an objective decision based on overwhelming evidence. It is crazy that Sutton will be getting paid a small fortune to analyse the game and he can't grasp this. John Beatons subjective decision was no penalty in real time. The objective, beyond reasonable doubt decision was then to actually give the penalty. This is even more crazy when the camera angle used as evidence looks like it has been taken from the CCTV cameras at the Civic.

  7. Not a suprising reaction today in the scottish media about the penalty. Those of a celtic leaning and bitter Hibby fans think it was a penalty. Everyone else saying its a joke. The against arguement has been hijacked by Rangers fans. Hypocrites! Those two clubs have colluded to bring us to this decay in our game. We also have the media stirring the pot to try and create even more content in their pursuit of attention for themselves. Meanwhile nothing is being said from the authorities. Year on year Scottish footballs standards on the whole spiralls downwards and without proper leadership and accountability our game will remain in the gutter. The cycle could have been broken this year but those in charge dont obviously like change. Scotlands shame continues.

  8. Dont expect the well society to comment about the Celtic support when one of their top men is very friendly with the green brigade.

  9. Beaton had already made his mind before he went to the screen lets be honest here he was so so quick to make a decision couldn't wait to get back on the pitch, give the pen and get up the tunnel. As a club we should be making sure he has nothing to do with our games in Referee or VAR capacity. And this talk about we were not good last night the last 15 mins until that disgusting decision only one team in it and one team that looked like they were going to win it fairly that team was Motherwell.

  10. Celtic are running Scottish football and their fans are out of control and can basically do whatever they like with impunity. What happened at the end of the game with their fans has happened at Fir Park before and will happen again and I said as much a couple of months ago when the bother at the Old Firm game at Ibrox was being discussed. And as I also said at the time it was Celtic fans to blame for that mayhem because they invaded the park and was met with the usual “ah but they only went on to celebrate, Rangers fans were worse, the real aggressors, they wore masks, Rangers are yer big team etc etc”. Well this is where attitudes like that get us, because too many people can’t or just won’t face up to the reality that in this day and age it is Celtic fans who are the absolute worst in this country, instead they hide behind the feeble “two cheeks of the same arse, Old Firm as bad as each other” or else they are too blinded by their hatred of Rangers that they just can’t see what is staring them in the face. And please do not anyone try and raise me “ahh but you’re forgetting that time we were 2-0 up and Rangers fans invaded the park forty odd/fifty year ago” because that is irrelevant to what happens today, in 2026, when it is most definitely Celtic and their fans who are clearly the issue. How many times do their fans have to invade the park at our ground, cause damage to seats, clash with stewards and so on before people wake up?

  14. Not one person at the time in the stadium or the viewing public saw that as a penalty. No one person had a clue why the match had stopped. There was no clear or obvious error. There’s a list of about 20 other things to argue it’s not a penalty. beaton and nepo baby Dallas deserve every single bit of criticism and both should be banned from ever officiating any more senior games. It’s not a one off for either of them, both have been totally incompetent for years. And yes….. I’m still not over it

  15. Its strange that after the pitch invasion by Celtic fans and their celebation with their club's employees, that no party has been moved to comment. Not MFC, not the Society, not the SPFL or SFA, not the Police and not Celtic FC. All being swept under the carpet? Its a sad reflection of events that almost all the widespread discussion has been about matters other than the football.

  16. I think jens will have seen enough about that rancid club last night to steer well clear of them.

  17. To inject some positivity into the discussion we have sold 2k tickets for this, so the away end will be sizeable and noisy. A fitting end to an incredible season. I hope we get at least the point we deserve for all our efforts this season, but even if we dont, the squad deserve the proper send off they were denied last night, especially with a few of them definitely away in the summer, Slatts in particular. Once more, "Stand Up And Sing For Motherwell!"

  18. Hung off from posting last night as I was way too angry about what transpired at the end of the game. Regardless of our thoughts on the matter, it doesnt really change anything. Hibs last minute winner means we need to go to Easter Road and get something. Given we have won 1 and drawn 2 against them this season and now have an injustice to fire the belly, we should embrace that situation. Re last nights game. I really despair about any Motherwell fan who watched that last night and is anything other than proud of our performance. Many Motherwell teams in the past have utterly capitulated to Celtic. But we went toe to toe with them for 90 minutes and were the better team by every metric, other than the one that actually counts. It was a great performance and, but for a bit more quality/composure in the final third, we might have won that game. There is a real feel good factor about Fir Park right now. Three stands up singing and bouncing in a game against one of the ugly sisters is a rare thing indeed. Finally, to address the issue of our record against the top 6. It is true that we have only won 3 out of 19. But we have also drawn 8. So in 11/19 games the top 6 couldnt beat us either and of the games we did lose only Hearts beat us by more than 1 goal and our performances have been more than decent. We should embrace these times and use the injustice we all feel about the season as a whole to fuel us going forward. Everyone to Easter Road......

  19. There was only 10 seconds of added time left when the incident occurred. So adding time for the VAR wouldnt have occurred. Barely enough time to allow the penalty to be taken.
    1 point
  20. Its a certainty that if the incident is discussed on the Var review and i have my doubts,,there will be some mysterious technical issue to explain why its not available, hearing Dallas shouting "penalty, penalty, stonewaller, no need to check John" would not be a good look.

  21. You obviously haven't read all my posts as I have said plenty about the game. I also gave the lads loads of praise for their tifo display. I think I am entitled to give an opinion about the flares, ask anyone that is sitting in the hunter last night. It's also going to be another fine from the league. But hey pal its all about opinions so fair do's COYW

  22. It's refreshing to see Beaton and Dallas getting called out far and wide, we don't usually get that type of exposure. It's also laughable that Celtic fans are actually creating AI and photoshop images of the incident, so much so that SNS Group have had to put out a statement. What a coward Beaton is btw, what annoys me more is that it was our throw in at the edge of their box that he awarded to them which allowed them to get up the pitch. In Collum's latest apology video he keeps talking about rushed decisions (ironically the one of ours against Falkirk) and then this happens unsurprisingly. Then he sees a pitch invasion and can't get off the pitch quick enough.
    1 point
  23. Leaving the corruption angle aside, maybe someone will eventually get round to asking Willy Collum why John Beaton continues to be given so many high profile games, despite repeatedly demonstrating he can't actually referee a football match without VAR being there to 'correct' his mistakes. In our games alone: Pittodrie: missed 2 red cards. Parkhead: missed a penalty and red card. Tonight: missed a penalty. That's assuming VAR got all those decisions correct, of course. If they didn't, that means Beaton is incapable of standing by his own calls and can't tell right from wrong. Either way, he's worse than useless.
    1 point
  24. Beaton is terrified of Celtic. He’s not the only one but I’d say of all the match officials he is the one who has been most compromised by Celtic and is exactly where they want him. Two years ago after a 2-0 loss at Tynecastle, Brendan Rodgers made a specific point of calling out John Beaton by name after he had been on VAR and called a red card and a penalty against Celtic. Rodgers knew exactly what he was doing that day, he was blowing the dog whistle knowing that the Celtic PR machine and their deranged element would kick into action and round on John (drinks in Rangers pubs) Beaton. And it worked. Beaton received abuse and threats, not for the first time and Celtic brought in their legal teams to challenge the touchline ban that Rodgers got for his remarks. Result of the above was Celtic went over 80 domestic matches in almost two full years without receiving a domestic red card and John Beaton has been involved in several key incidents where he has given Celtic the benefit of the doubt. Ours last night, the last minute penalty against Kilmarnock earlier in the season and there have been more.

  25. Aye. JBA and most of the best players will probably be off now. Because if I were them, I wouldn’t want to be involved in this corrupt league any longer than they had to be. Unless they all go to Celtic, of course.

  26. Again, absolutely no fan of Rangers, but this is specifically a Celtic Fan problem at Fir Park. Lumping them together in this context absolves them of accounability.

  27. Until the clubs in scotland all come together and start a breakaway league itll always be the same. Just tell rangers amd celtic to have a 2 team league play each other every week wreck each others stadiums and riot amongst themselves. They can keep the referees. As for the refereeing decision at the end...... im done.

  28. The SFA, SPFL and Police Scotland: sweep, sweep, nothing to see here… unless it’s Motherwell fans’ pyros, of course. I’m sick of it, and last night reminded me why I generally avoid going to Fir Park when either Celtic or Rangers are in town. The bottom tier of the South Stand should be closed off when they visit and, as punishment for their continued disgraceful behaviour, the footballing authorities should be making those clubs compensate Motherwell for the lost ticket revenue. I really hope Caldwell goes public on this ongoing nonsense at the end of the season, because it can’t continue. Otherwise, families will start feeling forced to keep their children away from these games. It’s just not safe.

  29. I'm pretty sure Jens will be off. He looked totally pissed off last night with the decisions made over the season. I don't want him to leave but feel it is now inevitable. Hopefully he will go to Europe or England and tell the SFA and the media exactly what he thinks. A young progressive manager hounded out of Scotland by nonentities like Collum, Dallas and the blazers at the SFA.

  30. Yeah, in the context of disorder at Fir Park, I don't think you can tar Rangers fans with Celtic's brush. Not aware of instances where there has been much trouble. Certainly not storming fire exits, pitch incursions, block of seats destroyed etc.
    1 point
  31. I don't always agree with you but think you get an unfair time of it on here sometimes. Until last night I would have disagreed with you over this, but I have now changed my view. Yes, Sevco fans have caused huge problems in the past thats a fact. However in recent times, Celtic fans are definitely the worst at Fir Park; I can't speak for elsewhere. The Government, media and Police will largely ignore their most recent behaviour, it but we can and should cut their allocation in future. Take a couple of thousand off their share i.e. most of the bottom tier.
    1 point
  32. If there was desire to sort out this disgusting behaviour, it would have happened before now. Firstly, I'll get this out of the road for now. I support Block E and will continue to do so, but the pyros last night were out of order. The SFA/SPFL, with the Scottish Government breathing down their neck will hammer the club. Good for PR, isn't it. Now, for the main event. Questions need to be asked of the club as to how Celtic fans got home end tickets. A suggestion above that laxity in the ticket office may have allowed some entry. I hope the seat numbers of those ejected were recorded by security last night and the occupants/ticket holders investigated by MFC. Also, if our fans noted interlopers then again seat numbers should be reported. More serious incidents, such as one reported in the POD need to be investigated as a matter of priority. The pitch invasion. This needs to be investigated by the club, security and Police. The media also have a role to play as they will have images of those who invaded. If not, why not? Presumably the SPFL/SFA will investigate? Questions also need to be asked of Celtic FC, encouragiung their hordes onto the pitch. Oh, I forgot, the SFA is still investgating the pitch invasion at Ibrox weeks ago. Lots of serious questions and I'm not expecting many answers let alone action, except against the pyro culprits of course.

  33. Motherwell need to be raising the behaviour of the Celtic fans and also the conduct of their staff and players. For the second time in a few weeks, they were actively celebrating with out of control, pitch-invading fans and stoking it up further. The police should have had them off the park and up the tunnel. Its getting to the point where we should seriously consider cordoning off areas of the stand until their fans can restrain themselves. There are now multiple instances, over multiple years, of disorder and damage in that end from Celtic fans. The club should make it clear the reason for it.

  34. I watch Match of the Day and in the EPL the VAR does not get involved nearly as much as in Scotland. That tonight was a disgrace. None of the fans behind the goal nor any Celtic player claimed for a penalty. Beaton looks at it. He knows if he does not give it he will be subjected to days of abuse in the media, maybe be physically threatened, assaulted or have his windows panned in. Taking all these factors into his head it's no wonder he gave the pen. The game is corrupt. Nothing has been done about the disgraceful scenes at Ibrox after the cup game and nothing will be done about the Celtic fans invading the pitch tonight. But we will probably be fined for the pyros.

  35. If Jens is having any thoughts about hanging around Scottish football for another season tonight just may have been the straw that breaks the camels back. Must be sickening for him to put in all the work during the week to see it mean nothing because of shite referees video assistants and a poundshop VAR system.

  36. I’m not surprised by some of the comments, you’ll probably find that the majority of these posts are from guys who have posted very little over the last few months and just come on here after defeats and want us to go back to last seasons pish so they can write shite more often.

  37. For me trusty comes from behind Nicholson and makes contact with his arm. This knocks it up towards his head as the ball comes towards him. You cannot say that the ball touched his hand in particular the force that the ball is knocked away with suggests that it was his head. You cannot say it is clear and obvious. Trusty for me goes down clutching his head when it looks more like the contact was on the shoulder. Clear attempt to get someone a red card so that calls in the slattery decision. ultimately we have played well after the split. Results haven’t gone our way tonight and at Falkirk but if you said we would draw with hearts and beat rangers at their home I would take it. Celtic hibs hearts rangers all spend more on their team than us but we match them and beat them. We need to use what we feel just now as fuel for the hibs game and ensure 100 per cent focus and put hibs to the sword. Now is the time to stand up and sing for Motherwell! COYW!

  38. Everything that can be said about the penalty decision has been said but in the cold light of day, it doesn’t impact on our pursuit for 4th. I’d rather focus on another outstanding performance and I’m just gutted that we haven’t signed off on one of the best ever seasons at Fir Park with at least a point - I actually thought we were going to nick all three. I’ve been one to slightly criticise our points tally against the top 6 but that’s possibly a little unfair. When you reflect on our 12 games against the top three, we’ve went toe to toe every time and just lacked that wee bit of luck, composure or quality to see us over the line. Onto Easter Road. It would be a travesty if we don’t finish 4th and get the opportunity to celebrate the achievement with such a memorable team while wishing a fond farewell to those that will inevitably progress to a higher level over the summer.

  39. A great season compared to other seasons, without doubt, but not compared to the high standards we've set and produced for 90% of this season. To potentially end behind a bog standard Hibs team is frankly a very poor return for this season, irrespective of how it compares to other season.

  40. Having seen some of the video clips, I’m not sure how VAR amd Beaton can be 100% sure he played the ball with his hand. For me the big clue is how the ball went out for a throw, the flight of the ball would strongly suggest he headed it.

  44. Absolutely rotten post. The guys have done their all in the last two games and played their hearts out (pardon the pun) against two teams going for the title. This isn't a Motherwell 0-4 in previous seasons in similar circumstances. Woeful post.

  45. I’m a bit surprised by some of the negative posts. Yes, we have faltered a bit down the home Stretch but we have managed to create a team that plays good football, has been able to go toe to toe with any team in the league amd with a wee bit of luck could have been in an even higher position. I’m disappointed too but I think phrases like “this is not good enough” is a bit over the top. So much has been fixed from previous seasons and there is still plenty room for improvement but I’d rather have seasons like this than the ones we’ve been subjected too for the last umpteen years. no reason we can’t keep our 4th position.
