  1. I can understand MJCs concerns. To use an analogy - after you’ve tasted caviar and champagne, going back to soggy toast and cold tea would be let down. However, that’s a hazard all clubs of our size face. We had a progressive thinking manager (Bobby Ancell) and a fantastic young team in the early 1960’s (Ancell Babes) but again due to the draw of bigger clubs and bigger wages, it was broken-up. The most high profile players who left being, Ian St John to Liverpool, Pat Quinn to Blackpool and Bobby Roberts to Leicester City. Shortly thereafter Bobby Ancell left and that ushered in the Bobby Howitt era which for me looking back now was probably one of the poorest in our history. I didn’t think so at the time but barring our exploits in the Texaco Cup it was a pretty poor time made worse by seeing clubs of a similar size to us getting a chance to play European football - Dunfermline and Kilmarnock to name two. I just hope history doesn’t repeat itself but we need to give the new manager time to put his own stamp on things. COYW.

  2. They'll likely think that last season was a Once in a Lifetime for us.

  3. That's what I thought. Cannot have St Mirren diving in and stealing the next Eli Just from us. Hope they have planned for a sneaky wee drone appearing over the stand roof.

  4. I agree. We’ve set the mould in terms of style and approach. Top six and a cup run would be a success for Alfred.

  7. Not only is Just a great attacking midfielder but his work rate off the ball, in winning back possession high up the park is phenomenal.

  8. Sounds like Curtis Main or Ryan Bowman. I don't really consider Just to be a forward. more of an attacking midfielder. I suppose that's the modern game, though.

  10. Hendry is the worst of the lot imo. I’ve seen zero in him and when he does get minutes in between his long lay offs he just points and moans and has a face like a smacked arse.

  11. It does. But do we write off the opportunity to make money from Europe simply because our squad is a little bulky in certain positions right now? Spending a little to accumulate more has served us well recently. The group stages might be a long shot but our signing strategy shouldnt ignore it. Especially if we see some players moving on eventually.....

  12. Man City have signed a goalkeeper for £3m and sent him out on loan to QPR. So I guess that makes Ward the backup. Swapping game time for wages and a move nearer home I suspect. Makes good sense for him.

  14. So we need then a goalie at least a backup centre back - lost Gordon and Welsh but replaced one with Moorman. Critical with the injury to McGinn and O’donnell being another year older. Felt our good defensive record last year was because we kept the ball so much so as we are likely to lose watt and have lost slattery. Will Wilson develop or will he have another year out on loan? 2 midfielder to replace watt and slattery bonus if creative. Would like to see Ross and Whyte get more game time but if we are to make inroads in Europe numbers would help. winger seems in the building already with Vogt but likely to lose tawanda. a creative/ attacking midfielder will also be needed if we lose Just. big years for Cook and Said Striker up front with losing hendry we need cover will stama be the main man? think we need another striker as at least a back up. Thor seems to be injury prone so need 6 players a goalie a cb. Three midfielders and a striker.

  15. It'll come down to what the manager wants I guess. Maybe he'll look at Connolly and see a starter in him? I think if we're all honest, we likely never saw Ward as the clear number 1 for Jens last year at this time, and it worked out that way.

  16. Just a brief mention in the Rancid Allan. No more details.

  17. Very true pal. Hopefully our scouting team will be looking for similar style of goalie. I just was never really that sold on Ward, goes with my best wishes though

  18. Aye we had the same drivel last year when JBA arrived, and when Wimmer arrived etc etc. Apoarently we could be bottom of the league by the end of August, so still in contention for 4 trophies then, i can live with that.

  19. On the bright side, if all our good players do get sold, Alfred has a blank slate and a shitload of dough to build his own team....

  20. I quite get that and have seen more than most good players depart Fir Park. That will always be the case and I can live quite contentedly with that. Blocking moves is a fine balancing act and, like it or not, contracts mean little to better players who can simply throw a hissy fit to get their move. After last season, there was always going to be interest in a slew of our players, so thats no surprise. However, a balance has to be struck. It was known by the club months ago and before the split, that JBA was leaving. So none of these factors should have been a surprise. Everyone connected with the club also knew that we'd be playing our first Conference League tie in late July. My only potential gripe is that our Chairman said that our best players would not all be sold at the same time, and that might still be the case; hopefully it is. However, I am getting a little nervous at the state of the squad for our first Havnar tie. Its unlikely that new players arriving are 100% match fit and gel instantly. The clock is ticking.
