I'm not sure why Ewan Wilson is being picked on tonight, I wasn't too impressed with him under Kettlewell, and I presume JBA didn't fancy him either, but he got forward well tonight and linked up with Williams on several occasions, and when he moved to centre half when Longello came on he looked comfortable playing the ball out. He will be third choice behind Longello and Williams on the left, and may fall further down the pecking order depending on signings, but he looked ok tonight.

The constraints of the current Fir Park site are plain to see. But with the principle of development for a football stadium already established there, nobody will ever convince me there isn’t a viable proposal that responds to those constraints in a creative yet pragmatic way. Whether that’s a complete demolition and redevelopment or a phased approach of continually replacing and upgrading the stadium bit by bit, I’d take either of those over relocating to an identikit plastic shithole on a soulless brownfield site on the edge of town. Every realistic option at Fir Park has to be exhausted, and sensible compromises made where necessary, before we consider something as drastic as leaving our home for Ravenscraig.

Regardless of position on whether to stay or go, this is the most exciting part for me. I truly never thought Id ever see Motherwell Football Club do anything, other than exist hand to mouth. The turnaround in 2 years is extraordinary.

Don’t quite understand the comments on Wilson - from my view he had a solid game and had some good interchanges with Williams in attacking sense. Noticeable that manager kept him on the pitch for the whole game and trusted him in central role when Longelo came on. he might not be starter ahead of Longelo / Williams but nothing I saw gave me the fear.

Tonight should be seen as being a big game for us and not simply as being a bonus or Euro jolly as it has been in the past. We should be trying to move on as a club. Its a rare chance to raise the club's profile; bring in extra cash through prize money and gates; and sustain the momentum from last season with the support. Its a chance to move up a level and we should treat it as such.

Putting the lack of striking power aside for now, as that’s arguably been our hardest position to fill for a while, I agree entirely with your point about the midfield. I’d go as far as saying it’s a complete failure not to have had someone lined up and already in the building to replace at least one of those players. And don’t tell me that’s Willy Vogt. He’s more likely a Maswanhise replacement, but he looks pretty poor regardless.

I went with Fadinger, mainly because I didn't spend the whole game wondering whether it was him or Watt that was on the ball. The choice was between him and Oscar but I was pretty impressed with Wilson, Reich, Moormann and Williams. No failures tonight at all, I'm looking forward to how this team develops.

Moormann, Reich and Williams all looked solid. Reich actually strolled it. Vogts took a while to warm up, but then skinned the RB a few times. Should have scored though. Thought Booth ws tidy enough and good lay-off for Fadinger's goal.

Priestman was excellent . He and fadinger at the heart of all good things . some of the new lads looked decent. Thought the youngsters were out their depth - Alfred has been waxing lyrical about a few but I just don’t see it . Appreciate the kids are kids so not being harsh - more that I don’t think the manager needs to be singling them out

Early thoughts... We will definitely get through this tie Priestman was comfortably man of the match Wilson done ok...do we keep him about until we at least get players back? If we continue with this style of getting the ball into the box, then we need to find a centre forward. New signings all done OK...however im not sure the keeper is assured as Ward with the ball at his feet

If Longelo and Charles-Cooke are fit to start next week I think we'll be fine.

We paid a fee for Just and he's actually a good player. We didn't pay a fee for Theo Bair, he wasn't a good player and we still sold him for a couple of million inside 12 months. So if flipping players makes the best ever signing Theo Bair is king. In all seriousness, of course, Davie Cooper is our greatest signing in the modern era. He revolutionised the club and its history.

Davie Cooper is the most obvious one. Apart from him Tommy Coyne has got to be up there with our best. He was in his 30s when he signed and went on to be one of our top players of the 90s. I’d also give a shout to Michael Higdon. He was that annoying journeyman who always seemed to pop up with a goal against us for Falkirk or St.Mirren but when he came here he became a proper No.9 and we got the best out of him.

A school playground, a street that cuts off the coroner of the Cooper and a couple of houses that ensure the Main stand can never stretch the full length of the pitch while sitting on a residential street for me shows no amount of money can remedy the limitations of FP.

I'm thoroughly enjoying this conversation, especially the insight provided by yourself Mr G&F, kudos to you for this 👌 My personal preference would be to remain at Fir Park, and I don't necessarily see this as a sticking plaster, but it absolutely have to be "done right" or it would rapidly turn into a disaster. It's surely possible to build something to be proud of in the footprint of the existing POd, encompassing the necessary corporate facilities and the other value-adding amenities discussed throughout this thread. Likewise the John Hunter. Whilst this currently has a very tight footprint, much of the land behind already belongs to the club (apologies if I'm talking bollocks), the problem lies with the school grounds... A school which is roughly 120 years old and surely due a massive refit/rebuild/relocation(!) which takes me to the local authority. I'd *love* to think that a fan-owned Community Club would matter a lot to the local authority and that the 2 would work collectively towards the same goal. A successful football club brings money into the area and helps put the place on the map, so positive collaboration should be a no-brainer. However, unless things have changed dramatically in the past decade or so, I think MFC is way down the list of any focus and/or priority of NLC. Moving elsewhere, and I can't think of anywhere other than Ravenscraig, will mean not only dealing with NLC, but (as other's have said) many others into the bargain... This gives me the absolute fear. It's also hard to imagine us getting anything other than a St Mirren Park affair stuck in the middle of a brownfield site where the existing amenities already seem dated. It also feels like 5-7 years away even if papers were signed today. One thing's certain, we need a decision a plan, and good communication of both in the very near future.

Following on from that table I posted on P&B, if we were to now get €6m for JT and Fadinger, those two sales and the running total, that would raise the question for me to now be "why the fuck are we staying at FP?".

We beat them 7-1 in the 1990's but I doubt it will be that easy this time around. The standard of Scottish football has dropped immeasurably since then. In recent times Scottish clubs have lost ties to teams from Andorra, Luxembourg, Gibraltar, Wales, Malta, Liechtenstein etc so you really can't take anything for granted. This is a tie we should be winning but I think it's just about getting through to the next round rather than chalking up a cricket score given the whole context around the match. I agree we will probably be in a better place for the away leg but it's important we don't travel at a disadvantage.

The independent report into the OF pitch invasion is pretty damning for the SFA. It basically says that they are not using their powers consistently and I think there is an implication that they are far too lenient on the Old Firm in particular. In this particular situation, the two tier policing of Motherwell and Derek McIness could not be more blatant. McInnes comments were said in anger on live television in the immediate aftermath of a highly volatile ending to the match at FP. His comments were heard by millions. They were inflammatory and clearly called into question the integrity of the officials. Watt posts on social media to a considerably smaller audience, a comment that may question the competence of the decision but not the integrity of it and his punishment is worse. You cannot get a more direct and obvious comparison. The SFA have had time to consider this response and will know themselves the discrepancies in this decision making so you have to come to the conclusion that they simply don't care.
