  1. Not news but one for other oldies like me. I'd recorded The Big Match Revisited on ITV4 thru the week. Highlights of 3 games from August '74 presented by Brian Moore. The 3rd match was a 2-1 win for Man City at Maine Road v Leeds. The City 'keeper was Keith MacRae. Good to look back at a show from an era when there wasn't much football on TV. Despite that the main game was Gillingham v Charlton in the old Third Division. I've seen a few of them on ITV4 over the last year or 2 and they liked to cover plenty of games from the lower leagues. It's also good to see games from the latter months of the season back then, anyone who complains about the state of pitches now should see what those guys had to play on.

  2. Obviously it's one game and you don't want to read too much into it. However, I think we only scored more than two goals once under Alexander last season. It was a pragmatic approach when this league probably doesn't warrant it. I'd be willing to bet there wasn't a single game under him where we had that many attempts on goal. Every manager has their own philosophy but if Hammell's is to play football and try to score plenty of goals then I'd rather watch us lose playing that way than win trying to stagnate poor opposition. Feels like a long time since we've had someone in charge who actually understood the importance of entertainment. I was getting apathetic about coming to games. Was definitely more habit than desire. Now I'm intrigued to see how we build on this.

  3. The Aberdeen support is a joke. They seem to take no joy or pleasure in anything apart from beating/scraping a draw against Rangers once a season. They live off the early 1980s success that they had but can’t get their heads round why they aren’t winning leagues and competing in Europe anymore. Their ‘songbook’ consists of dirge like “Staaaand free” and chants mocking the Ibrox distaster and the Simpson-Durrant incident whilst trying to portray themselves as ‘better’ than the bigoted nasty Old Firm/weegies. They think they have a divine right to be better than clubs like us and their media chums help fuel this. That is why very little in football gives me more satisfaction than slapping them down. Fuck them.

  4. All the "dugshite" people were talking about on here lately turned in good performances today. Slattery, Goss, Shields, Efford, Mugabi and McGinn all played their part today. Goodwin has spent a fortune and brought in 10 players and their usual tactic was a long ball over the top. I know it's only one performance but it seems to me that the " dugshite" departed along with Alexander. It's the same players but not playing his 4-3-3 is the only difference. The ability was always there in the squad if better use was made of it. Will the usual suspects (you know who they are) now agree that the players are not as bad as they were making out. I want hold my breath waiting.

  5. It's one I've always enjoyed reading also when we triumph which is more often than not these days. Last night it was 27 pages of pure gold, it started with ridiculous scoreline predictions, how much they owe us one, then they hoped the team would take it in turns to snap KVV and so forth. It was nice to see all the optimism crash when Spittal scored. It is well worth getting the blue riband looked out and reading it while slurping tea. Delighted with our performance yesterday, to think we missed plenty sitters and still scored three. Looking forward to Saturday same again please.

  6. Then you have Jonny Hayes, a guy with a face like a welders bench.

  7. It will be tough but if we play as we did yesterday a defeat may not have been as predictable as it previously was. That said their big centre forward looks a handful so our defence will need to perform better than it has of late.

  8. The most I’ve enjoyed a game for quite some time although a wee bit tainted by me just waiting on us collapsing which never happened. Great display. Well done Motherwell. You can tell we were good when the thread is so subdued. Here’s hoping we see a lot more positive results like this and lots of decent football to enjoy.

  9. We won't win the league, we will not get relegated or end up in the playoffs, for me it's at worst another top 6 finish and a chase for the Euro places again. Don't really care where the other 11 teams finish although if I could pick it would be Livi bottom and Killie relegated via the playoffs to finally get rid of the shitey plastic pitches from the premiership.

  12. I agree about not giving a fuck today. Enjoy it.....it was the perfect tonic after recent times. Moving forward is the challenge. A reliable LB, finding our best CB pairing, more work on tactics/team shape and player confidence increasing will help with the soft goals I hope. A good start today overall but a long way to go.

  14. During Alexanders tenure every game was so stressfull to watch, as the only thing we could cling on to was a potential result, because the football itself is shite. You can forgive a lot when the team plays like that, with attacking intent and maximum effort. As shite as our inevitable losses are going to be, you can take it as part of the process, and be annoyed at the result without the feeling of futility you got with the previous guy. I reserve the right to take this back if we lose to livi :-)

  15. I don’t want to be negative or borrow worry but I am concerned that Man Utd might poach Hammell for the soon to be vacated Man Utd job?

  16. Difficult one, everyone performed well, with no one player standing out to a degree. I thought the starting three in the midfield all had good games, and all three were involved in an attacking sense at different points. I went with Cornelius because it was one of his best games for us. He pressed really well and ran himself into the ground. I don't think comparisons to Alan campbell are miles off. I also thought O'Donnell fared well at left back, and him running across to put the fear of God into the guy who was one on one after Sol slipped was awesome.

  17. 19 shots today. Nice change, I've often needed 19 shots after watching us to recover my Saturday.
