I like the idea of keeping kettlewell in his original role, then having him be our designated createker, since we're probably going to go through a bunch of managers like every other club. We're so short of coaches right now, we could really do with an additional coach coming in with the new manager and assistant.

They might not be bad guys, but they make a substantial portion of their money when players move, so it's certainly in their interest to keep their clients active. Then the discussion becomes are they acting in the best interests of their career or their short term finances. If you were an agent that was going to make £10k from a player extending a contract at Motherwell or £30k from a signing on fee at Exeter City, then a lot of the time it's going to be cream teas all round (jam first, unless you're a serial killer).

I think by cheap option people mean affordable option. This is maybe the point you are making. Jack Ross has been spooked by something and if it is wages then it gives us an idea as to the market we are working in. As a mindless and wild conspiracy theory however, Ross could have been persuaded by Alan Burrows that he is under serious consideration for Aberdeen. I suppose this highlights the compromising situation than AB finds himself in just now. Hand tied for two jobs. As a complete guess, I would think we are closer to the Ian Murray, Kettlewell, McPake market than the Holloway, Ross, McCann one. I think opting for Hammell in the summer showed this. It was a decision influenced by considerable financial constraints.
