Depends whose definitions of 'assist' you use, but FIFA's are: An assist was awarded to the player who had given the last pass to the goalscorer. In addition, also the last but two holder of the ball could get an assist provided that his action had decisive importance for the goal . After goals from rebounds those players were awarded an assist who had shot on target. After goals scored on penalty or by a directly converted free-kick the fouled player received a point. In case that the goalscorer had laid on the goal for himself (dribble, solo run), no assists were awarded. No assists were awarded, either, if the goalscorer took advantage of a missed pass by an opponent. Where goals resulting from penalties are concerned, the player who is fouled in the area receives an assist point (unless, that is, the player who is fouled subsequently executes the penalty himself) While Opta's definition simply appears to be: The final pass or pass-cum-shot leading to the recipient of the ball scoring a goal.
  2. Given the number of dubious free kicks and probably opponent bookings he's won over the years by falling about, I'm not sure there's much to be gained by kicking up a fuss about it. For a younger player it might be a teachable moment, but I think we can safely say Skippy is just going to keep being Skippy, and sometimes he'll get his comeuppance, unfairly or otherwise.
  3. From the 'fishel site: "Following Mark McGhee’s departure two weeks ago, Robinson has taken the team on a temporary basis but has been handed the reigns on a full-time capacity, with a contract until May 2018."
  4. But preferably not either of the last two cup finals we've actually been in.
  5. What did you expect him to say? He was asked a question by a journalist, and he's presumably looking for another job. He's hardly going to say he was rubbish and deserved the sack.
  6. Still takes a good free-kick, so maybe we'll bring him on to score the winner if Skippy falls over somewhere around the edge of the box in the last minute.
  7. What happened to "that's the last one I'm confirming or denying"...?
  8. It's not as simple as whether the guy who headed it was behind the line though. The whole of the ball still has to be over the whole of the line too, and even if nearly all of it was, he could still be standing behind the line and head it forwards off the bar, and it wouldn't be a goal.
  9. I'd feel like I did when Home & Away moved to Channel 5. I'd be a bit annoyed that other people were still enjoying it, but I soon found something better to watch
  10. I don't even consider it a six-pointer to be honest, at least in the classic sense... to me that's when there are three points between the teams to start with, so at the end of the day you could either be level on points or two wins ahead. (But I know Wikipedia disagrees...)
  11. Fisher Twitter said he "looked to be struggling with an injury" when he came off, so who knows.
  12. If he's any good, all he needs to do is teach our existing goalkeepers to be better at goalkeeping. Problem solved
  13. I'm confused. Didn't McGhee only get the job because Burrows wanted his old pal back at the club in the first place?
  14. Nothing is ever as dramatic as our MFC radio commentators suggest.

    Boycott ?

Ach, let's just boycott the new one anyway. He's bound to be too arrogant / too nice / the cheap option / waste of a big wage / living too far away / living too close, and I for one won't be back until he's gone.

    Boycott ?

I've still got a bit to go before I'm 60, but even at my age I've seen plenty of horrendous spells of form and managerial crises before, and for better or for worse we're still ticking along much the same as always. As they get older, a lot of folk also just have more important things in life to be passionate and/or upset about than how their football team's doing, especially these days. (Though I'm sure I also feel it less because I rarely get to any games any more.) For some younger fans, how they feel about the current string of debacles will probably be on a par with the most frustrated/disgusted/angriest they've ever felt about anything, and that's absolutely fine... it would probably have made my blood boil 20 years ago too. But now I'm just too old for that sort of thing

    Mcghee Out?

Legally, a board of directors is a single entity, so all decisions are made by the board as a whole, not by any individuals. In practice, I'd guess the chairman would get the casting vote if need be, but whatever he decided would still be the decision of "the board".
  18. A playing career that anyone would be proud of, too... Cup Winners' Cup Final appearance for Rangers against Bayern Munich, and an inductee to the Birmingham City hall of fame. Relatively recent article about him here, on the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice website, where he was a day service patient: https://www.princeandprincessofwaleshospice.org.uk/the-charity/hospice-stories/roger-hynd

    Injuries

I blame the pitch. Let's go back to playing on a coo field.

    Mcghee Out?

To be fair, that was mentioned many times when people were moaning about him getting the job for the second time, and I doubt even the most anti-McGhee crowd would disagree with you. But the cold reality is that you ultimately have to assess football managers based on things like results, leadership qualities and working with the club on a clear plan for the future, not on how well they might handle one of the most awful and unlikely things that could ever happen.

    Mcghee Out?

One of his jobs is to keep an eye on what the ref can't see and keep separate records to make sure the ref doesn't do something like cautioning the wrong player. So at least that never happens any more...
