Just watched the highlights and I agree. Also Lamie's 2nd yellow also looked borderline. Not our night luck wise.

The referree had a 15 minute spell towards the end of the game when he seemed to give every decision to Queens which was a bit bizarre because up to that point I thought he was having a good game then just seemed to lose the plot a bit.

Massive cheer when he finally gave us a free kick.

One thing for me is we look a bit lightweight in midfield on the tackling front when Butcher isn't involved think would like to see a tackler brought in even on a 6 month deal if possible should Butchers injury come back to bite us.

Pretty sure out starting midfield will be Slats,Spittal and Butcher when he is fully fit.

    Agree with that.

There were times when their midfield were winning  50/50 balls way too easy which put us under unnecessary pressure. Going forward the midfield looks fine but defensively it does look a bit on the light side at times.

Compared to this time last season it's still night and day in terms of shape and fitness.

  3. Another game for Kettlewell to assess the fringe players.

Souare looks like he could be a player. Took up good forward positions. Obika Held the ball up well and looks very strong. Slattery looking more like his old self and looks a lot fitter. Spittal right on his game.

Bevis, not a better centre half in the league in the air, ball at his feet is another story.

Lamie what can I say that hasn't already been said.

In saying that playing on a park that resembled a sponge with strange bounces everywhere probably didn't help.

Need more firepower up front as Wilkinson doesn't look to be an out and out striker.

Kettlewell will know by now the areas he needs to improve on and the players he can rely on.

  4. Just back in from the game.

A comfortable run out in the type of game where we've struggled in the past.

Other than a wee 10 minute spell in the 2nd half where we let them back into the game we controlled it well.

Still a bit rusty in places but that'll come with games.

Great to see the youngsters get a game.

An old Elgin fan said to me after the game that he's been watching them for 40 years and that was probably one of the best performances he's seen from them in that time. Goes to show these smaller teams always raise their game against the bigger ones as both Saints and Dundee Utd found out to their cost today

I understand the principle of the one off development fee or going for a sell on fee instead but I seem to recall a story a few years back about an a mature team from Aberdeenshire getting something like &100k for a player who they had as a kid who had been picked up by a pro club who in turn sold him on to an English club before they then sold him on again for big money and this was where the £100k came from. In short this makes me think that potentially we get some cash - all be it small amounts - every time the player is transferred.

Sure I read somewhere that Accies received some kind of payment for James McCarthy every time he was transferred.

How can we get an add on if he's not a signed Motherwell player when the transfer happens

The club is due approx 380k/400k as a development fee. We could potentially suggest a lower fee and a percentage of any future transfer as an example if the buying club agreed.

This article says it all the club mis managed the Max Johnston affair and were losing the player for a song

You could also look at it from the point of view that we're guaranteed 380k/400k as a development fee plus potential add ons if we do some kind of a deal with Sturm Graz.

Would we have got much more than that as a transfer fee if he had done a Turnbull and signed a new contract. I'm not so sure we would have.

If that was the case - surely there would have been an official announcement before he took up post (even if he was only in it for a few days).

He came up to the game to see the match day set up and meet the Directors and was caught on camera talking to them.

That apparently all adds up to people assuming he was offered the job whereas no-one really knows if he was offered it or not except the Directors.

    Was Mandron offered one ?

A Saints fan over on P&B claiming that we offered him a deal but they topped it.

Also claims that they were in for him in January and he opted for us then.

Whether that's true or not who knows.

He is working for a foreign company as a salesman not another club. His experience is invaluable

That's good news that another club won't benefit particularly if it was Scottish.

Lovely big guy and I wish him well in his new job and hopefully he's still on the end of the phone should we need to ask advice about anything pitch related.

Head groundsman Paul Matthew departs after eight years.

I'm surprised we were able to hold on to him for so long, but after talking our sand pit and developing our playing surface year after year into the bowling green hybrid we have now, I'm sure he has been receiving some good offers.

Yeah inevitable that a bigger club would come in and poach him at some point.

Only saving grace is that with the new hybrid pitch we don't need another miracle worker like him to keep it playable.

    Still a big loss though.

Edit to add his assistant Alan Carlin has been promoted so still in excellent hands.

While I’m interested in new signings. What is the position with the likes of Casey and Goss? I assume they are not in training with us? Are they basically free agents and considered not to be Motherwell players?

Casey is apparently holding out to see if there's any offers from England and Goss is seemingly attracting interest from India according to the jungle drums.

A killie fan over on p&b says the lad fowler has now gone on trial with them.

Couldn't agree a fee with Beith apparently, gone are the days when you could pick a player up from the old Juniors for a set of strips and some training balls.

The boy has some potential but I wouldnt be forking out any serious dosh for him.

OTF alluded to the fact if we did sign him he would probably be put out on loan so was never going to be in the first team squad anytime soon.

  14. If you look at Caseys playing history, ROI snd USA 2nd tier he's not a player that would have stuck out as a "must do" signing.

I just wonder if he looked better than his previous playing experience would have suggested because he had Callum Butcher beside him.

Maybe Butcher can replicate that with Sam Campbell and Shane Blaney given time.

  15. If I had the choice between Fletcher and a punt on somebody no-ones ever heard of from some English lower division team on the same kind of money then I'd probably opt for Fletcher.

Of course Ketts has maybe got another proven striker already tied up for all we know.
