I think a massive problem with our support, certainly based on those around me, that there's a bunch of people who go because they love to shout abuse at the players. They're just waiting for a mistake so they can tell them they're shite. They'll get abuse if we do something as radical as keeping possession.

Of course, I accept our current form is much worse that it's been in a very long time, but we can be third in the league and the atmosphere can still be pretty toxic.

So by all means, do what you like, we're all paying customers, but I find a lot of it a bit weird.

The shout of the season for me last year by a guy close by was "Van Veen, all you can do is score goals" after he didn't run 30 yards to close down a defender.

Kinda sums up some of our support though.

  2. For me the real rot started after the Livi game and we qualified for Europe.

That was the time for the board to grasp the nettle and offload Alexander as IMO by then he had lost the fans backing with his brand of football but the board in their infinite wisdom couldn't look beyond short term success and look at the long game.

That would have given us the carrot of European football to dangle in front of any potential  new manager and a summer to recruit new players which might have appealed to a better quality of applicant.

Instead they opted for the cheapest, easy, and (in their eyes) safe option and Sligo was the result of that.

To be fair though there may have been financial implications at the time that we don't know about but when you look at the money we must have splashed out since on severance pay and the January player sale then would we have been any worse off financially and possibly in a better position than we currently are.

  3. I'm actually going to issue a bit of a rallying call here.

Having been one of the unfortunate few who suffered an 8 hour round trip to Dingwall to suffer another 90mins of absolute dross I had made my mind up to give Saturday a miss to save what's left of my sanity.

I said elsewhere that I hope Kettlewell gives them the morning off and gets them in this afternoon, locks them in the dressing room and no-one gets out until the current problems are thrashed out. Might not be pretty but I think it's reached that stage now.

Having slept on it I now realise that would be the easy coward's way out and I will be there.

My worry is that with all the negativity on the forums there is a toxic atmosphere even before the game starts so I think it's important that the fans show their support right from the start and get right behind the team.

I support Motherwell as a club first and foremost and the 11 on the park are only the present holders of the jersey.Happy clapper stuff maybe.

HOWEVER if they can't get up for this game then I think we're well and truly fucked and I would be one of the first outside the stand shouting sack the board/manager or whatever, but hopefully it doesn't get to that point and we're all talking about a performance and win on Saturday night.

Whether or not we stay up or get relegated this season I think a major rethink of how the club operates is needed as we surely can't keep going on the way we are and that includes reviewing  every function in the club, listening to every stakeholder and fans views in an open and transparent way and coming up with an affordable and workable medium to long term strategy.

That's like saying I won't turn the heating on in the house, I'll just wrap a blanket round me, it's not the money, the blanket does the job.

Given the rise in fuel costs etc It's not being used to save money no other reason, it's been at least -5 or -6  degrees below in recent nights, luckily the covers done the job but not using the underground heating is another possible indicator of just how skint the club is, it's not a good sign.

Every time the undersoil heating is used it kills the grass roots so if it can be avoided by using covers it is. (As told to me by the head groundsman on Saturday)

He didn’t go in with studs up. He is clearly focused on the ball and attempts to sky it up the park. However, the Dundee player jumps in and gets ball before Paton and collided with Patons studs. At most a yellow i suppose I don’t know what the guidelines are that SK mentioned

Just watched the Man City Spurs game and an identical tackle to Patons by a Spurs player got him a yellow.

Not even a hint of VAR.

Not often you are correct but yes, agree with you here. If shirt pulling is a penalty then thats fine & we play to that rule. The issue is that plenty shirt pulls dont get looked at.

MJC blabbers about seeth but half of that is due to using VAR when it would 'appear to suit' rather than on a blanket basis.

For what its worth, yes, the Rangers one today was a shirt pull & by the rules, a pen. How many shirt pulls in the box across all top division games in Scotland this weekend went unpunished?

    Just get VAR to fuck

The ironic thing is neither penalty would probably have been given down south in the EPL where cage fighting rules seem to apply in the penalty box and referees seem to apply a different interpretation of the same rule on a regular basis.

But yeah get VAR to fuck.

4th Round draw takes place tonight on Sportscene.

We badly, badly could do with a Cup run to lift the mood around the club but with our luck with draws and poor form then it’s unlikely.

I fully expect us to be drawn away to another top flight side yet again, probably St.Mirren. Either that or Dundee Utd for Moult to score against us and knock us out.

You really are a ray of sunshine on a dark dismal day.

    Thanks.

It really is crazy what is happening now with managers in our division.

The fact is that somebody has to occupy positions 10,  11, 12 in our league and it seems increasingly that club owners are panacking at the first sign of getting close to the drop zone, regardless of the time of year.

It almost seems like a strategy now to use the new manager bounce to buy 12-18 months before the search for a new manager begins again.

We could well be next. If SK goes that would make 3 managers in as many seasons. Since the turn of the century we have had, on average, a new manager every 18 months with only Mark McGhee and Craig Brown leaving from a position of strength .

What does this tell us? That every manager has been rubbish/ an  imposter/ wage thief etc, or that the job is becoming impossible with an expectation that is far to high.

I sometimes wonder if the drama of the search for a new manager has become as much a part of the entertainment of the sport as the game itself. The appetite for sacking managers has become even stronger amongst the fans. Maybe it is now just a part of the show.

When players are lasting longer at clubs than managers, there is a problem. It cannot allow for a sense of stability or vision of how a club might adopt an identity for the future. There is no vision generally within the Scottish game it would appear.

An old guy I knew who used to be President of a local Junior team always used to say the first thing he did after appointing a new manager was to start looking for another one.

Maybe he knew something we don't.

I’m all for having safe standing areas for those fans that prefer that type of match day experience. I can see why it appeals and certainly worth Clubs seeking permission. Especially if it brings in the next generation of fans.

That said, I read that Celtic are considering cutting back on their area. Not because fans don’t appreciate it, in fact most fans want it extended, but because of the goings on of the Green Brigade. Given an inch, taking a mile. So again the actions of a few impacting on the enjoyment of the majority.

I think any Club can seek approval from Local Authority, Football Authorities and Police. Each application looked at on its own merits. If a standing area can be safely accommodated then why not if there is a demand?

I'm sure I read somewhere that the cost of turning the Bois section into safe standing was going to be in the tens of thousands so maybe not a priority at this moment in time.

Fair enough. I was the other end of the stadium...

A lot near me felt there was a clear offside in the build up for the first goal .

Murray ran into the channel a clear half a yard off in the build up.

The linesman for most of the game was a yard behind play and getting absolute pelters from the wheelchair section.

  11. A combination of a pitch that we've never really been comfortable on for as long as I can remember, a midfield that looked jaded and a lone striker? with no support that meant the ball inevitably ended up at a Livi players feet and put us back under immediate pressure.

I thought if any of the 2 teams were going to score it would have been from a set piece such was the poor build up from both.

Interesting that the Livi wide man started targeting Spencer on the outside forcing him onto his left foot.

Millers ordering off certainly swung the game Livi's way.

    Bad day at the office.

I'm told that the forced their way through a turnstile and then kicked open an emergency exit to allow a very large number of ticketless fans in. In doing so, a police officer was injured and an elderly steward was caught in the stampede and kicked in the jaw. So the stand was over occupied by quite a bit.

This is not the first time they've done this, which begs the question as to why the club and police were not set up to deal with it. And also why the game was allowed to go ahead with such a safety issue.

Add in the 3 pitch invasions, the usual theft of at least one match ball and bizarrely a corner flag and it's hard to fathom how they get away with all of this.

The invasion by the Bois I felt was stupid, but I was also kind of glad they did this time. Any criticism can be put right back on to Brendan's defence of the incident at Livingston - which also encouraged the Celtic fans on Saturday as he'd effectively told them it was fine. The Motherwell fans were generally young boys, but the Celtic fans who confronted players and got as far as the half way line were grown men, some of whom looked old enough to be grandparents.

Caught the boy trying to pinch one of the match balls going out the disabled entrance.

Steward done a great job stopping him.
