Appreciate the sentiment, but not sure how this is going to make us any more competitve with others around us, unless of course they hope to sell another few hundred tickets - I just don't see it.

Who do we need to compete with, only Motherwell fans buy Motherwell season tickets, so not increasing the prices is a good thing. A price increase even a modest one might have pushed the price beyond some people's budget.

So if there's no need for an increase its happy days and a good move by the club.

Your last sentence applies to yourself i assume, since I’ve been on this site a few years now and I almost fell over when I read that. Or does it need a sarcastic emoji there to clarify? 😃

No emoji required, I always judge players on how they perform, don't always get it right as I thought Bair was brutal but he's a great example of how new players should get time to settle and prove themselves instead of being written of as shite after 5 minutes.

Heard it might be Dylan Easton

30 years old never played in the top league, scores a few goals but not exactly prolific. I don't think he'd be a direct replacement for Spittal but our midfield has been a problem for years now, so hopefully this has finally been recognised. He has plenty of experience so that's a bonus. As always if he is coming on board he will be judged on how he performs.

Boys at Airdrie are on more than 600quid a week

The who gets what per week debate at whatever club etc is pointless as it's all uniformed bullshit guessing from all of us the only people who know for sure are the actual players and the clubs wages department.

    Why not?

We are by all accounts the third lowest wage budget in the country & Bair was never brought in as an assumed starting 11 man but rather a squad player to work on. And he is young. He will have done well in terms of bonuses but i wouldnt be surprised if he is one of our lower earners (in terms of basic)

Saying that, i have no idea what a lower earner at MFC will be on.

I think some on here have an unrealistic view of just how much a typical Motherwell player earns. We are now used to describing your average footballers wages in the 10's of thousands etc but for me I think that's fantasy land when discussing Motherwell. There may be 1 or 2 senior players on maybe 2 or 3k a week, but I believe the vast majority of the squad are on significantly lower wages than that so £600 a week may be nearer the truth.

750k isn't decent cash. We don't need it that badly

At the financial levels we operate at re wages etc £750k would fund possibly 4 or 5 players, so it's very decent cash to a club like ours. And the bigger English clubs know this all too well, it's small change to them.

But we surely have to weigh up the goals he could score for us if we keep him

We can keep him till next summer, if his agent has a sniff of a better deal for him elsewhere he wont sign an extension and let his contract run down and we get feck all.

So if that happens the club will say yes take the money on offer and say thanks Theo best of luck with your career.

Surely we decide if we want to keep him or let him go. And the price we let him go for.

In the real world a player is only as valuable as what another team are prepared to pay, no offers no sale and he walks for nothing next summer.

    I'd rather keep him tbh

So would most of us, but if the club gets an offer of £750K as has been mentioned or maybe even more then he will  be away. That's the way Motherwell operate bring a player in for next to nothing develop him the sell on for a profit and a good sell on clause.

Tam Cowan on radio saying he heard Bair could be off to Bristol City for £750k, if true then that is cracking bit of business but obviously would miss the big man,  will wait and see if any truth in it

Aye good business as long as we have a replacement lined up. Spittal is away to Hearts, and if Bair goes as well that's probably 25 goals or so out of the team, very difficult to replace.

Safety certificates meant we had to level the pitch? Further SPFL sanctions when we haven't been sanctioned for the pitch since 2010? Are you sure about that?

I don't understand where you are coming from at all with concerning the losses. We make a profit one season. The money is in our bank account and we spend it. It shows up as loss the next season. It's totally normal. You seem to be suggesting that we should never spend more than we earn in any 12 month accounting period regardless of the cash in the bank which is a fairly mental way to budget for anything.

The 12 month period is totally arbitrary, it's not the be all and end.

    Random shite as usual

The club's finances in the present are a result of the previous income. We obviously wouldn't have spent a fortune on the pitch and East Stand if the money wasn't there from player sales.

It's not history if you actually have the money. We should be looking at £3-4m from Bair and Miller so it's not like we don't have assets at the moment. It's obviously a balancing act from the club but that's the nature of professional sport at every level. We are in a strong position at the moment but people talk about it like a wean that thinks there's a bogeyman under the bed.

If we are that well off, why are we actively seeking additional investment then?

Something like : top 2 get champions league, cup winners get Europa, third place gets Europa, 4th gets Conference league, if 1st-4th win the cup then 5th gets conference league.

That's correct league winners go into CL group stage, 2nd get CL playoff round, and Guaranteed EL groups, 3rd get EL playoff round and confirmed ECL group stage unless Aberdeen win the Scottish Cup then 3rd and 4th get Conf league

And if either of uglies or Hearts win the Scottish cup then 4th and 5th get CL.

    I think that's the arrangements 😁

They can, but I'm not sure how that fits in with the Society's remit to be a fan-owned club, or if the Society can even legally exist in its current form if it becomes impossible for it to ever be the majority stakeholder.

The whole concepts of a " fan owned " club was laudable but in Motherwell's case given our fanbase limitations it was never going to be a long term sustainable operating model. If we were a league 2 club say then it might work but never on the financial demands of a full time premiership team.

And it seems that the board have finally realised this hence the search for outside investment, and for me the price of that investment if it happens would be majority control of the club, Investors want their returns.

If the WS members reject whatever proposals re giving up majority control that may be put before them as is their right, without  having any alternatives in place then I can see a potential funding crisis ahead for the club.

  15. 12 minutes ago, wellgirl said:

Because it was made clear by the well society that members would have the final say as to whether the society keep majority control or not.

As the majority shareholders the WS members having the final say on any major decision taken by the club over the years should have been normal practice. But from what the members have said including yourself the consultation / communication etc has been zero, so as I said is there any confidence that this approach will change as it needs to?

II think any such demand would likely be a deal breaker as far as Society members are concerned. And without Society members approval no bid can succeed. There is no way round that. Steelboy’s Conspiracy theories aside.

The WS members opinions from what's been said so far don't seem to have been canvassed or taken into account by any communication or votes etc for any decision taken by the club re finances, infrastructure improvement etc since the WS was formed, what makes you think that approach will change now?

    Really?

If you look at the EPL Man City, Liverpool and Arsenal were the three bookies favourites and the last match between them was two Saturdays ago. Man City have an extremely easy run in for their final 7 games.

I don't remember too many Spanish Classicos in April or May either.

That's because they only play each other twice in the English premiership, it's the same in Spain so no need for any jiggery pokerey with the fixtures  required. As has been said only in Scotland with all the shite and nonsense that comes with the uglies.

  18. 6 hours ago, texanwellfan said:

Not sure how they work it

They make sure the ugly sisters get 19 home and 19 away games each,  and once those two have agreed the fixtures, the other clubs get what's left, that's the usual approach every season.

    📽️ Enjoy

    some cracking Motherwell kits

and cracking players who wore them

Pitches like ploughed fields, games played at walking pace at times, standing on open terraces in all weathers, no comparison with today's game but we enjoyed it allegedly 😬

As expected, Post split fixtures won't be released until after Wednesday as SPFL "want to confirm final pre split top 6 league placings". They think our heads button up the back.

They are working out how to avoid the next ugly sisters game at Parkhead becoming a title decider Dave. It's only ever all about those two the other forty clubs in Scotland are irrelevant.
