  1. But on what basis are we a bigger club than St Johnstone? On not dissimilar budgets, we achieve more than them. That makes us more successful not bigger.

But kind of makes my point. Even our own fans think we're a bigger club so outperforming them is seen as no real achievement...

By bigger i was referring to history, honours won, time spent in top divisions, fan base and average attendences over the years, European participation..etc etc. And i think on all of these we can be classed as a bigger club.

But you are right the more sucess we have the fans expectations change so finishing above ICT and STJ etc is expected every season.

  2. Don't normally give this much thought, but on the way home yesterday heard praise lavished on St Johnstone for another top six finish. Their crowds aren't that much smaller than ours yet "a wee team" like that was getting credit for the amazing job they continued to do.

I think the fact we continue to finish top four means that it's become the "new normal" for us to be there so not worthy of comment. Other factor might be that we're widely perceived (both by fans and media, rightly or wrongly) as a bigger club than St Johnstone and Inverness CT. Possibly due to our more illustrious history or the fact we've been in the top tier for longer than anyone except Celtic and Aberdeen currently (Hearts are on the same list but not for long). Never going to hear talk of "plucky wee Motherwell" in the same way that you can occasionally hear St Johnstone or ICT referred to.

Just need to go about our business under the radar and take the prize money...

Good post, i agree we are a bigger club than STJ, ICT and the like. A top six finish and challenging for a European place is expected of us now so the media dont pay any attention.

The media are desperate for a replacement team to talk shite about till Sevco get back to the SPfl, hence the wankfest we have just now over Aberdeen and Untd.

  3. The SFA won't rock the boat in Scotland. If it transpires that Rangers win the cup, they'll quite happily ignore any reaction locally and wait to see if UEFA intervene.

The SFA will never do anything voluntarily to punish this mob

Agreed the SFA are shit scared of upsetting either of those two..but UEFA rules are clear re new clubs and to them Rangers are a diddy club so it wont happen. It would be nice to see UEFA slapping them down though

  4. It did say they could theoretically win the league AND the cup. It's been a few months since you could say that about us.

Much as it pains me to say it, Aberdeen beating St. Johnstone would go a long way to ensuring fourth place qualifies for Europe.

I hope not , St J are 16 behind us so they wont catch us, but we are in with a good chance of finnishing 2nd again. A win against Aberdeen will cancel the game in hand the Sheep have on us and undo the damage of us losing 2 points against Hibs.

2 successive seasons as "the best of the rest" would be a massive achievement for Motherwell, especially after losing the players we did, so i want a ST J win or at least a draw.

  5. The ideal scenario for Motherwell is an Aberdeen / Untd final as that would ensure that 4th place gets Europe, (assuming that both of them finish in the top 4). The cup runners up only get Europe if the winners have already qualified for a higher tournament i.e. the champions league, so as Celtic are out that wont happen, so St J will need to win it to get Europe, unless they finish 2nd or 3rd in the league.

As for Sevco, thay are barred from Europe for 3 years so they wont qualify even if they win it ( which if there is a god he will ensure that it wont happen ).

  6. A good result tonight, ICT had a lot of possesion but no cutting edge, i thought Nielsen was good tonight 1 or 2 balls he should have come for but all in a solid performance.

Strange decision by SMC to take Faddy off he was our best player by a distance tonight and leave Ainsworth on !!! As he had contributed feck all after he scored.

But 2 goals, a clean sheet and joint 2nd in the league a good nights work by the team.

  7. I was not at the game but just watched highlights and in all honesty i cant see why people are blaming Hollis for any of the goals.

Hibs 1st central defence not clearing the ball and not stopping the header, the 2nd goal again Hibs player gets a free header, as for the 3rd Heffernan runs wide and nobody goes with him Murray i think is ball watching and lets him go.

But i have to agree we are feckin shit at defending set pieces

  8. Clubs would love better general atmosphere at games. In fact the only thing they want more....is points. And if making the visiting support less effective helps them get that, then that's what they will try. It's no different from Craig Brown insisting the visiting fans got punted in the top tier....yes, even we hated it because the overall atmosphere was less, but was there a single visiting support that managed to influence their side from up there? Not that I can think of.

They are banning the drum in the hope that it limits the influence the visiting support can have on the game. They will be rubbing their hands together if half of us don't turn up. No drum might be quieter....but it's not half as quiet as no people.

Its nothing to do with trying to limit the away fans influence..its about some high viz vest wearing jobsworth fuckwit full of their own self importance pandering to complaints about too much noise at a football ground ffs...no wonder the beautiful game in this country is in the state its in.

  9. Good to see it on BBC site...the media needs to pick this up and get right into Hibs and show people how feckin ridiculous they are.

Scottish football needs all the help it can get and these fuckwits are complaining about fans being noisy FFS..you could not make it up

No boycott though turn up in numbers sing and make as much noise as you can, pump them and get it right up them.

  10. nielsen is going nowhere without a pay off which is bad news for hollis.

Why is it bad news for Hollis...Nielsen might not get back in the team ? Hollis was excellent today, nothing to do but came for the ball, spilled nothing and distributed the ball well. It was obvious the rest of the team had more confidence in him than Neilsen.

  11. Great stuff from us today, never in any danger, Faddy was back on form, a class apart from everybody else on the park.

I was impressed by Reid today he has some pace, tackles well and looks solid on the ball could be a good bit of business by SMC.

All in all a great win to get back on track, a clean sheet would have been nice but scoring 4 at home we cant complain.

    PS Hearts are feckin dreadful

  12. Quite simply, we don't deserve to finish in the European positions this season as we've been guff throughout save for a brief spell in December/early January. We've also failed miserably in very winnable cup ties and that, combined with our overall poor form equates to this season being a very disappointing one, regardless of what the Happy Clappy Brigade say.

What dont we deserve...after 26 games we have taken 70% of the total points on offer and as a result are 3rd in the league. Carry on that percentage in the last 12 games and we will have a 72 point total our highest ever in the SPL. So feck off and dont talk shite.

  13. Tsunami pant wetting? Sounds like something for Babestation or Playboy Tv lol.

So far the negatives Ive seen on here tonight are that We were shite and got pumped on Fri, were shite and getting pumped tonight, the keepers made a cunt of it again, other results are going against us as well. What part of any of those statements are untrue + sensationalist? Or are you automatically a pant wetter if you have a negative thought towards MFC?

Not seen the game so cant comment on Neilsens performance and agree with statements re the other results. But as i said its hardly a crisis 2 bad results dissapointing as they are but we are still well placed to finish 2nd or 3rd and claim another European adventure.

There are lots of points to play for so why not get behind the team instead of hurling abuse at players, Neilsen in particular. I am not his biggest fan but at the moment he is our no 1 so deserves some support

  14. With the other results as they are its shaping up to be a bad night. However as it stands we are 4 behind Aberdeen with a game in hand and anotber 11 games left after that so its hardly a crisis.

Its 1 1/2 bad games ffs and the pant wetting is at feckin Tsunami levels so lets just keep the faith and believe.

  15. Having watched Sportscene last night, I don't blame Adams for speaking out - that was a terrible challenge (again) from Goodwin that deserved a red card.

I wonder if Vincent Lunny will be watching the highlights and offering Goodwin a ban....but i wont be holding my breath waiting for it.

  16. Sutton for me.. he had pish poor service all night but he put himself about and looked interested, put a good shift in. Scoring the pen was the only bright spot in a shocking team effort, so he gets my vote

  17. In all honesty for all the possesion untd have had none of their goals have been from sparkling open play. We have gifted them 3 by shite defending all very preventable, tbe best chance of the game was from Vigurs and needed a great save to keep it out. So a bad result tonight but dont forget we are still 6 ahead of them with a game in hand...onwards and upwards
