  1. no - point well made. I look at most of our first team and have the same thought. Depends if he's better than what we have. Coming back is fine if you are an uncle Phil, Lasley, Faddy, Hammell , Craigan but if you didn't cut it first time around it's hard to expect significant change.
  2. Generally speaking most new signings are a simple reminder of what level we've sunk to in the last xx years. (not just us - all Scottish football). Signings from the bottom of the English pit. Some make turn out great, many don't. When our model works and we sell £6m worth of players you'd expect that means we can sensibly invest in a higher calibre and start moving up the rungs to a brighter future. Hope for now is the new mgr can unearth decent signings (which aint easy in the winter window)
  3. Would like to see the governing bodies step in and block any payment until we get paid our due's. Equally a shame not to see him back at FP. Appreciate not many would but I think he'd make a difference.
  4. a centre half - standard of Tom Aldred a striker - standard of Moult a winger - mmm.... trying to think of a recent winger who was decent
  5. I thought the ref had a decent game - the pen was given by the assistant . Not sold that VAR would have given a different decision, every week MoTD complains about VAR.
  6. it shouldn't have been a pen - don't blame the ref on this one though- pretty sure it was down to the linesman . Still believe we need a centre half though
  7. by 'old fashioned' he meant someone who would score goals.
  8. O'Hara was excellent. He did the job that you'd expect Campbell to do. He needs to learn when to hold back though - silly yellow card in first 20 mins
  9. terrific first half - very poor second half. Need to establish if Galalgher, SOD, Campbell are staying. If we can keep the above and add 3 decent players there's reason for optimism. Agree that a centre half and a striker will be priority.
  10. sadly true - he had an excellent first half but he's too clumsy
  11. I don't think it's the effort - in many games we started ok and lost and early goal which killed us. Today we started bright and have built upon it. A new mgr often has this impact.
  12. best team performance I've seen this season
  13. looks like exactly the same line up as last week - only with O'Hara back. Reckon Las picked the team to be honest. Too early for the new mgr as he's only had 1 training session
  14. Where is Long ? Has he left the club - not even in the squad in recent games. Appreciate he's not popular but would like to know where he's at.
  15. White works hard but hasn't offered much . Spends most of the games giving away free kicks.
  16. from the reported 4 candidates Alexander would be my choice. He's got a decent success rate of +40% win rate and has worked with similar standard of players.
  17. the new signings become very unlikely until a manager is appointed
  18. bringing through our own youngsters should be our go to position and we started that a few years back. What a great advert for youngsters to join us when they see the likes of Turnbull, Campbell, Hastie mk 1, Cadden ,Scott all come through. We've lost the momentum on the youngsters but it should always be at the heart of what we do. Shored up with some decent pro's (either perm or loans) from wherever we can find them (which could include European players not just UK
  19. I've got some level of optimism that wingbacks will work for us if we beef up the midfield . thought Maguire made a difference when he came on. Lots of games are lost through midfield as we rely on O'Hara and Campbell. Id like to see us moving to 4 at the back with Carrol and Odonnell as wingbacks. Have Maguire/Campbell/OHara/Polworth in midfield . Once Donnelly is fit he can slot in.
  20. I really liked Ainsworth but only when he could be bothered. His highlight reel shows why. I equally remember him at FP and he'd regularly do zero for the first half and only come to life in the second half when he was close the east stand - it seemed he was powered by people cheering him. Can't imagine what he'd be like without fans in the stadium.
  21. agree - Polworths distribution is awful at the moment. Carrol started poorly but improved as the game went on. Thought Carrol/ODonnell both among our better players yesterday together with Watt.
  22. O'Hara has been one of our most solid players but would rather have him in midfield and bring in a decent centre half. Create midfielders / wingers/ strikers - yes please. A great time to bring in loan signings as the lack of reserve football means there's some cracking young prospects in the premiership who we could bring in.
  23. McCall is very similar to Robinson. Over a 4 year period had a great win rate (+40%) but his final season was dreadful and ran out of ideas. Did the same with Bradford, 3 times over. A wide berth should be given
