The WS are the majority shareholder at the club ffs organising bucket collections to raise funds is not good optics. As a one off for a specific purpose yes but any more than that and it's begging bowl territory. Unless the WS suddenly gets a few thousand more contributing members, they are probably at the limit of how much cash they can raise, a very limited fan base results in a very limited cash flow.

Agree with your sentiments and probably the WS board does too, which is why I suspect they’re having a collection for the community trust to save them having to be seen to give the trust money directly.
If this raises £2000 for the trust then it’s £2000 that the WS doesn’t need to give them.

…There will be a bucket collection but it's being undertaken by the Society on behalf of the Community Trust. Now I may be in a minority of one here, but although I support the Trust 100%, surely on this particular occasion it should be to boost the coffers of the Society itself? Especially so, given financial concerns articulated at the Club AGM and the need to back a Society proposal with hard cash.

I’m thinking that possibly by raising money this way it allows the society to have to give less to the trust therefore it’s indirectly beneficial for the society’s bank balance without being seen to be shaking the bucket for themselves.

I take several things from the results. A quick calculation shows that the adult membership (all those entitled to vote) is approximately 2,760;the rest being juniors.  As I understand it, all those adults who are paying monthly or have put in lump sums were entitled to vote. To me the low response rate is very concerning and is the main conclusion I draw from the results. Why is that? Is every member contactable by email? Some may not be. I also suspect that there are errors in the membership database - not all down to the Society.  I can't quantify them. Some would not understand the wording of the question, as it was a bit woolly, as others have said.  Apathy - yes.

I voted yes, but have no knowledge whatsoever of the 2 actual offers. I may well change my mind once I find out the details (in fact I probably will).

Agree with you on the low response, it’s disappointing. A few members may have changed their email address and not notified the society, a few may have sadly passed away, some people may have put money in who aren’t fans but liked the idea of a fan owned club and feel they shouldn’t make decision on the future of the club but added up that’s not enough to make a difference.
The apathy concerns me as like you I voted yes so that no opinion’s were taken off the table but I’m definitely not in favour of giving up on fan ownership and hope that between now and - if - an offer is put before us then the society will try to check that they have the correct and updated details of as many members as possible.
min not in favour of having the board members standing at games looking for the members as this could lead to them being abused by members/non members.

No longer the last Motherwell player to score a league winner against Rangers. About time too!

The guy’s been on good form the last week, told his co commentator to shut it when he suggested Rangers  or Celtic should sign Lennon Miller last Sunday, said on Wednesday that he should be left to continue his development at Motherwell for the next 15 seasons and topped it off tonight saying he had lost his hair twice since Motherwell last beat Rangers in the league :)

Also, he’s had more faith in the manager and squad than most of us on here this season.

I am beginning to feel guilty on holding on to this knowledge I am now aware of, but at the same time I don't want to be labelled some type of trouble maker.

Suggestions as to how to make it available privately would be welcome.

No need for guilt, any WS member could email the society and ask as you did.

It's getting a little heated between fans so I think the quicker the WS get something out in the form of a factsheet or a QandA format the better to dispel some of the more outlandish stories being banded about.

Santheman this isn’t directed at you so nothing personal but on the above point here’s my view on folk getting their knickers in a twist and ranting  before anything has been said.

Firstly, I’d think that both the WS & MFC board will be bound by some sort of confidentiality agreement with the other parties so what they can say at the moment will be limited - if I were the investor I’d certainly be insisting on that.

I’d like to think that they will both update everyone as and when they can.

Other than that both are tasked with ensuring the long term interest of Motherwell football club and not giving continuous updates on what’s happening with everything that is going on with the club - no matter what they say someone will still think it’s not good enough and think they know better. Although I agree with folk that the board haven’t covered themselves in glory lately.

Obika in the team is like starting with 10 men, he offers nothing, Vale has a lot more pace than Obika so id keep him up front with Bair.

Are you suggesting trying to form some sort of a striking partnership between Bair and Vale?

Such a radical notion will never catch on.

Having watched the highlights back, I need to review my opinions at least a little.

First goal Casey is marking no one and has no idea where Shankland is. He definitely has to shoulder some of the blame. I originally thought it was all on Mugabi, and he at least can see Shankland and should react, but if he goes too quickly and the ball is delivered to the man behind him for a free header he gets it in the neck for that as well.

I get the whole zonal marking thing but unless your communication is a helluva lot better than ours appears to be, Id much rather see a defender man to man on their most dangerous player.

    Its a collective shambles.

At the game, second goal, I though SODs was fouled. He clearly isnt. He needs to be stronger there, so that ones on him.

Agree, Mugabi has been unfairly blamed, probably because he’s the guy closest to Shankland as he scores but he wasn’t marking him at the start and you could see by his reaction that he was pissed off at the time.
SOD will (or should be) embarrassed at the second as he didn’t see the other hearts player and possibly when he did see him tried not to collide with him and give away a penalty but his fall looks comical- these things happen.

  9. Celtic are a weaker team just now, although they should still be good enough to get a win against us but we can only hope otherwise.
Abada is a loss for them but that’s not all of their problem, they seem to be missing something and are not clicking as a team - let’s hope Brendon doesn’t fix it before next Sunday.

I thought vale contributed a lot when they had the ball also. I think he will be  a good asset.

Agree with you. Yesterday he got the ball inside the box on the byline and looked to be going nowhere but cut it back  nicely into the penalty area, unfortunately no one was there.

As others have said, I could just about live with him as back-up, but he can't be considered a starter.

Apart from the goal - and I’m not defending him at that as I’ve still to see it properly - I thought he didn’t do too badly today. He cleared most of the crosses put into the box.
Most, if not all the guy’s we can afford will have faults.

Miller shitting the bed when clean through the defining moment for us today.

Bit strong, I think inexperienced would be closer. Not the best shot but not the worst we will see this weekend.
I think a more experienced guy would have taken a touch, got in front of the defender and drawn a penalty.

I can't speak for anyone else but I never suggested that substitutions should be made at the 30 minute mark precisely. Changes could have been made at half time or slightly after, when we were 3 0 up and cruising. In any event it would depend on how it was communicated to those taken off ie "saving you for Friday."

I know, what I was trying to say was that I was catching up with posts that I hadn’t read and as I read through the posts I wrongly thought they were on the Aberdeen game thread but luckily I checked before posting  - posted it for a bit of a laugh and a cautionary tale to read carefully and check before posting - reread my original post ;)

  14. Here’s a good reason I always try to check things before posting.
Just been catching up on here, read a couple of post above and thought they were talking about Wednesday’s game - luckily I thought it a bit strange after I’d written my reply so checked what thread I was reading before posting this :)

Kmcalpin, SinOz and wellfan, are you all seriously saying that at 3-0 up after only 30 minutes any manager should be making subs?

    Madness!

The subbed players would be raging and if the game had still ended 3-3 this forum quite rightly would have been in meltdown at Kettlewell’s decision to do so.

  15. Don’t disagree with you there but Casey and every other defender have been at fault  for us losing poor goals this season - not just down the left.
My point was more that with him behind Gent, Gent has been better, that has led to us getting goals - and that might get us some wins.
We both have valid views for not playing/playing him there.

Mcginn hasn't been settling the heather on fire on the left.

I think that Gent has been better with McGinn on the left. I also think he gets up the park in support better than Casey.

    Regarding SOD, totally agree.

……  Also maybe after signing Davor he can explain why it took about 5 months to make him a regular, wee man been great

I’m no expert but I’d think that he might say something along the lines of “not fit when arrived/getting to know Scottish football/getting to understand our system “

I keep harping on about players needing time to settle but I’m sure if I could be arsed to look back over the last 6 months, I’d be able to find there were a few on here questioning his ability and why he was signed.

My view is that a January window is for signing starters (like defenders) to help a struggling team immediately. It's not a time for signing projects, or unfit and injured players just because we can.

I’d disagree with that, if someone you want either as a project or is not fit but is available then it doesn’t matter when you sign him if you believe in him. Signing him now gives him 6 months to get fit/improve/settle in. Also if you wait until June/July he would probably no longer be available.
