Like him or not Kettlewell isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. He survived a 15 game winless run late ‘23/early ‘24 and he’s not getting sacked for anything that happens this season barring an absolute collapse that sees us fall into the relegation spots. I’d gladly take a defeat in this one in favour of a win this Saturday in the Cup if I was offered a choice. The Cup game is more important.

We will lose this and exit the Cup, absolutely nothing surer. Even a week away and it’s already got all the hallmarks of a rotten day. It’s such a shite draw in every aspect. Away to a Premier side, not great for travelling fans and with our stinking form and performances it’s hard to muster any enthusiasm.

Our overall play is absolutely stinking. Unless our actual game plan is to simply concede possession and hoof it 70 odd yards when we do get the ball then I have absolutely no idea what we’re trying to do? Maybe someone else does but I can’t see what we’re hoping to achieve with this.

From the little I saw of last night and what I heard it sounded pretty horrific and those few supporters who braved the sub zero temperatures do go down to Ayrshire to watch that deserve free entry to the next game. That said I’m actually quite happy with a point and it keeps us in a pretty comfortable position.

It’s this nonsense that is killing the game imo. This jobsworth-like examination of every goal to find the slightest thing wrong means that you can’t celebrate and enjoy a goal anymore because you know that the VAR team will be scrutinising absolutely everything that went on in the build up to it. That is not doing anything to help the game in my opinion, quite the opposite and I would gladly see VAR binned tomorrow.
