  1. Presented without comment on the quality of players we've signed but as far as I can see including contracted players who have moved on plus u20s whose deals weren't renewed 17 players who were part of both first team and u20s squads have left the club (as players);

Clay, Thomas, Lasley (retired), Jules, Pain, Ainsworth, Moore, Samson, Chalmers, McFadden, Lucas, Ferguson, Pearson, McDonald, Mackin, Fry, Pettigrew = (17)

    Thus far we've announced that we've recruited and promoted as follows;

Carson, Plummer, Dunne, Kipré, King, Bigirimana, Rose, Brown, McDonald, Fisher, Tanner, Newell, Semple = (13)

If it's the case that Shaun Bowers has arrived after his release from Celtic then that's another. So 17 out and (potentially) 14 in across both squads.

Based on what's been announced so far this is roughly where we seem to be, if Bowers has indeed signed then add him to the defenders list:

    Goalkeepers

1 - Trevor Carson (29) - summer 2020 (signed from Hartlepool United - undisclosed fee)

    13 - Russell Griffiths (21) - summer 2018 (signed from Everton)

    39 - Peter Morrison (19) - summer 2018

    Defenders

    2 - Richard Tait (27) - summer 2019

    3 - Steven Hammell (35) - summer 2018 (Vice-captain) - injured

    4 - Ben Heneghan (23) - summer 2018

    6 - Stephen McManus (34) - summer 2018

    14 - Ellis Plummer (22) - summer 2018 (signed from Manchester City - free)

    18 - Charles Dunne (24) - summer 2018 (+ 1 year option) (signed from Oldham Athletic - free)

    21 - Cédric Kipré (20) - summer 2018 (signed from Leicester - free)

    25 - Jack McMillan (19) - summer 2019

    30 - Luke Watt (19) - summer 2018

    29 - Adam Livingstone (19) - summer 2018

32 - Dylan King (18) - length of contract unknown (signed from Oldham Athletic - free)

    34 - Barry Maguire (19) - summer 2018

    22 - Allan Campbell (18) - summer 2019

    26 - Ross Maclean (20) - summer 2019

    28 - Shea Gordon (19) - summer 2018

    31 - David Turnbull (17) - summer 2019

40 - Alfredo Agyeman (16) - length of contract unknown

42 - Jamie Semple (16) - length of contract unknown (promoted from Academy)

Thanks for that, interesting. Looking only at last year's players that have left made a significant number of appearances, and based on what I've seen from the new players in the League Cup games so far I'd say...

    Carson > Samson

    Dunne > Jules

    Bigirimana > Pearson

    Kipre > Chalmers?!

    Rose = Clay

    Tanner

    Fisher or Newell ? Ainsworth

Overall I'd say that it looks like we've got a decent upgrade overall.

  2. Got him on the cheap Had a great few seasons. Sold him on for a tidy sum. Got him on the cheap again.

One of our best pieces of business ever. A guy who always gives 100% and a decent amount of talent to match.

Sorry to seem him go, but seems like the perfect time for him to move on.

This is it for me, good luck Scott

  3. What difference does a big noisy support do ?.. we took nearly 2000 to every away game in the bottom six games when we ended up in the play offs before , did fuck all to change the abysmal results. Took a big healthy support to Firhill couple weeks back , did fuck all we were still abysmal. We take a big noisy support to Accies every game and what return has it shown? fuck all , our record there is atrocious. Doesnt matter if we take 4 or 4000 to Accies it will not affect the result one bit.

At Firhill recently for example, we had a big support, yes... but as soon as things start to look poor on the field the crowd turns negative / nervous and in my view the players feel that and you get into a vicious circle. I'll compare the recent Dundee and Ross County games as well... ultimately the result was the same, but it felt to me that at least against Dundee the fans and the team thought we might score again ... but against Ross County, as soon as they scored it looked and felt all over.

I just take the view that a positive backing from the fans (ideally in numbers) just might make a wee difference... and is therefore far more preferable to the negativity we usually get when things go a bit wrong.

  4. Have to chip in on Barnstable. Couldn't believe the screaming with the Moult goal, never mind the ranting about the red card that most now seem to agree was deserved.

The commentary was the only way I had to keep in touch with the game today, and I really enjoyed it. I was screaming at the goal too. I actually like the fact that it's like you're sat next to a Motherwell fan, as opposed to a professional neutral commentator... although I get the fact that some people would prefer the latter. I'm also just grateful that someone takes the trouble to do it at all.

  5. Josh Law goes with my best wishes. As much as he wasn't the most dynamic or talented of footballers, you couldn't fault his effort - I don't think we could necessarily ask for much more than that.

I agree with that. Someone else said that during the darkest days of the Baraclough reign he never hid, and that's what I'll remember him for. All the best.

  6. We don't yet know the story with Leitch, and whether or not we've got any compensation. Irrespective of that however, I'd imagine a conversation along the lines of, got any loan players that would benefit from first team experience? Given they've got gazillions compared to us, you'd like to think they'd try to do the right thing and help us out if it could work for all parties. (We have got a record of loan players doing well.) I realise how naive that sounds, but worth a conversation anyway.

  7. Went for Cadden. Johnson had some nice moments in the first half but weirdly he was better at left back than he was after Chalmers came on. In fact the second half he was pretty anonymous.

This was my last match of the season so I can declare Scott McDonald my player of the season for 2015/16.

    6 - Scott McDonald

    5 - Louis Moult

    4 - Kieran Kennedy

    3 - Connor Ripley

    1 - Morgaro Gomis

    1 - Stephen Pearson

    1 - Marvin Johnson

    1 - Josh Law

    1 - Lionel Ainsworth

    1 - Stevie Hammell

    1 - Chris Cadden

I've not seen many games, but I'd also go for McDonald as my player of the year.

  8. As others have said I think- I don't think we will see much movement this summer. If I was to hedge my bets I think we will:

David Clarkson (One year option) - Release

    David Ferguson - Renew

    Wes Fletcher - Release

    Stevie Hammell - Renew

    Keith Lasley - Renew

    Jack Leitch - Renew

Scott McDonald (One year option) - Renew

    James McFadden - Release

    Stephen McManus - Renew

    Craig Moore - Release

    Craig Samson - Renew

I could see a striker coming in and possibly a goalie. But other than that I don't think we will bring in unless we lose someone to an actual transfer.

I'd agree with all of that with the possible exception of Fletcher. If he's fit I have a sneaky feeling that with a run in the team he could do well. Admittedly my sneaky feeling isn't based on a whole lot.

  9. For what it's worth, I bumped into Ian Baraclough while he was still our manager and asked him where he would place us in the English leagues. His answer was: budget wise, mid to upper league two; standard wise, mid to lower league one. From my experience of watching that level of football (and a general view of players that move north-south) my opinion is that that's about right. Championship is now on another level.
