  1. Absolutely delighted with the guts, character, determination and never-say-die attitude of the team last night. Playing with ten men for 73 minutes was a big ask, but everyone raised their game and their workrate and we got a deserved 3 points. Thought the support was great too, right behind the whole team from the off. Alan Muir was a disgrace, the disallowed goal was onside and showed up the linesman for making a decision without thinking and/or knowing the rules. The sending off I'm not 100% about, but Crags seems to have reacted to something and confronted Barrowman. Overall, chuffed to bits! Back to 3rd where we belong!!!
  2. After Saturday I feel I must raise my voice against some of the ridiculous abuse handed out to certain individuals in our team. Now I'm not saying that folk shouldn't offer criticism, far from it. However some of the stuff that gets shouted is personal rather than a critique of the player's abilities, which is simply not on. Take Michael Higdon for example. For the most part he performed very well without much support, but the moment he misplaces a pass it begins. Some of the things that are shouted from the East Stand defy any logic. Roaring abuse at him to "FUCKIN JUMP!!" when the ball is arriving at him at chest height is simply astonishing! Okay I get that folk don't rate him, but if you're going to moan about his supposed errors, at least be gracious and supportive enough to applaud the good work he does. Yes our home record is poor this season, but are we playing a part in this? Are players frightened to do something risky for fear of major abuse if it goes wrong? We are all frustrated, but turning on our team and some individuals at the first sign of the game going against us does us no credit. Even the young 'uns at the end of the East Stand have lost their spark! So, hows about we all get behind the team a bit more from the off, especially at home?!! See if it makes a difference, it did at the start of the season! And if there's a total tube spouting negative pish near you, drown them out with positive shouts! I'm sure we'll see the benefits! Mon the Well!
  3. Outstanding post Steve, a wee bit of sanity amongst much losing of heads!
  4. I'm expecting a very tough game on Saturday, with the main danger being ICTs physicality and workrate which we'll have to match to get a positive result. We were very fortunate to win up there a couple of months back, but hammered them on day one. Any sort of win will do me fine, but to achieve this we need Higdon, Lasley and Jennings back in the side. The midfield was weak, lightweight and lifeless last week, and I am desperate to see Nicky Law find his form again. If he does then I can only see one result. I'm gojng to say 2-1 Well, but MJC could very well have an unusually correct prediction!!
  5. Very sad to hear of Bill's passing this morning. he was as MJC correctly pointed out 'Mr Motherwell' and no-one could ever doubt his commitment or feelings towards the club. His service to the club over 30 years was huge, much like his influence. He will be sadly missed. RIP Bill.
  6. We should be able to progress comfortably even if we make a few changes. I think we need to anyway in order give some of the fringe players game time, and allow them the chance to stake a claim for a regular place. My team would be: Randolph Hateley Page Clancy Halsman Humphrey Jennings Forbes Lawless (if his loan spell at Albion Rovers is up) Higdon McHugh That line-up should be good enough for a 4-0 win AT LEAST.
  7. In the end, even though we scored first and were pegged back, I look upon this as a point gained. Early on the game was almost ruined by Calum Murray, who made a series of strange and inconsistent decisions, and succeeded in angering both sets of players and fans. How he let Goodwin stay on the park is incredible, given the amount of fouls he commited, only some of which were picked up. His punch on Jenno should've resulted in a red on its own, why don't assistants actually start assisting? Also he booked Daley for supposedly kicking the ball away, but did nothing when McGowan did the same later on!!! His card for Murphy was similar to an offence commited by a Saints forward earlier in the half, yet no card! Also Thompson twice handled without punishment, not a good day for Murray. The game itself came to life in the second half, with us in charge then the Buddies penning us in for a while. For all Goodwin is a knob his goal was a belter, and at times some of St Mirren's play middle to front was impressive. They also closed us down very well. For us I thought Higgy was really good, but again lacked support at times. Couple of great saves from Randy too. Bring on the Jambos next week!!
  8. Our end is £23 for adults on the day, but if you buy a ticket up to the day before its £20.
  9. I dare say all will be revealed MJC, but if the predicted poor weather arrives then there may be another factor to consider regarding the game going ahead or not. If it does then, like yourself, I don't foresee many goals. Both sides prefer to pass the ball around but can struggle to find the net. No changes to the team and a 1-0 Well win with Higgy annoying his former employers!
  10. Absolutely delighted with the win first and foremost, and the relative ease in which it was achieved was a huge bonus. From minute one it was a very professional display, with by and large a very solid defensive performance and some decent attacking forays too. Now, PLEASE do the same at home next week!!
  11. This is potentially a very very tough game, given the form they're in. Lomas has picked up where McInnes left off and Saints are a very useful side indeed. That said we've been prolific on the road, so perhaps they'll be feeling as apprehensive as us about Saturday! Team-wise I wouldn't change much, although if Las is fit I'd have him back in the starting X1. A diamond midfield might work here, given how they dominated us in that area at Fir Park in September. With that in mind, here's my line-up: ------------------------------------------------------------Randolph-------------------------------------------------------- Hateley-------------------------Hutchinson-----------------------------Craigan--------------------------Hammell ------------------------------------------------------------Jennings--------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------Hughes----------------------------------Lasley---------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------Law------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------Higdon-----------------------------------Murphy--------------------------------------- That line-up combined with our usual away form should be good enough to collect at least a point.
  12. I'm reasonably happy that we have a degree of patience in our play, and we don't resort to aimless balls in the general diirection of Higgy. However, I do feel we need to shoot on sight a bit more, as part of our problem at home has been, for me, the lack of on target attempts we have over 90 minutes. Team-wise I don't envisage many changes. Obvioulsy Las will be out, but I wonder who will get the nod between Hump, Murph and Omar? 2 out of the 3 will feature but it's hard to say who exactly. Personally I'd go with Hump and Murph as both have roasted the Hibee defence at times this season. Omar would be a good sub to bring on to run at tired legs later in proceedings. The only worry for me is if the Hibee attack clicks, and the 'new manager syndrome' pays off for the. However, an early goal from us and we could enjoy a comfortable night. I'll say 2-0 Well, with Higgy and Murph on target.
  13. Its not his pishness that gets me, its his attitude towards the players, which is bordering on Brines-esque arrogance. Hopefully he won't spoil the game or attempt to be the main talking point, but I doubt it.
  14. Horrible day for fitba, and it was a horrible match for the most part too. We had control for most of the second half but lacked that killer touch and a bit of cohesion in front of goal. Defended well throughout which was very pleasing. All in all not too disappointed with a draw considering the conditions.
  15. Count me in! Have 'liked' the facebook page too, this is a very important issue, and one which will impact upon clubs like us more than the main perpetrators.
  16. Feel a bit aggrieved that we got nothing out the game, we put plenty in throughout the game and I reckon a draw would've been fair. You could see by the way Shellic were moaning, diving and conducting themselves that they felt the pressure, and knew that they had to win at all costs. Lennon was his usual annoying self on thr touchline, but as seems to be the way after last season, no-one has the guts to challenge him any more. Richmond was very generous towards Shellic in my view, lots of wee fouls given their way due to their propensity to go down easily and moan like hell in his ear. We needed someone stronger to stand up to them and not be so easily conned. Disappointed we conceded so quickly after going in front, especially as it was through carelessness in possession that lead to the corner. Samaras was total shite, and my concern was that when McCourt came on he'd bring a whole host of different problems, and so it proved. Ach well, sitting 3rd aint so bad. As long as we recover from this and take points against the Sheep, United and Hibby's then fine. Onwards and upwards.
  17. Think it was before the last Shellic game he got it, hopefully this one will work out a bit better! Well done Stuart McCall, the best ginger gaffer in the SPL!!
  18. Absolutely delighted for Las. Players like him don't usually get the recognition they deserve, so this award is a great achievement.
  19. Its an achievement that should be lauded to the full. In this day and age to make 400 appearances for one club is almost unheard of, so Stevie Hammell deserves to be recognised as one of Motherwell's greatest and most consistent servants of all time.
  20. My personal view is that we should treat this like an away game ie play a counter-attacking style which suits us down to the ground. A team like Shellic make this plan easier to execute by being generally very attack-minded, so here's hoping! I'm not saying we should merely sit in defensively, far from it. I just feel that playing 4-5-1 with a view to creating quick breaks is our best chance of a positive result. It's unlikely we'll be able to dominate possession, so as long as we remain solid at the back, industrious in midfield and lively going forward we'll have a fair chance of taking at least a point. We need every player up for the battle and prepared to fight to win their individual battles. Do that and I'm confident we'll remin in 2nd place come Sunday night. Team-wise it all depends on whether Hammell and/or Jenno are fit. We'll stand a much better chance with those guys available and on form, but at least guys like Hateley and Clancy are adaptable if needs be. Mon the Well!!
  21. Never write off the Well!! It was far from a vintage performance, in truth we were poor at times and ICT can consider themselves very unlucky to lose a game in which they were best for long spells. Still it has to be considered a great result and a hugely important 3 points. Bring on the wee team in 3rd next week!!!
  22. I do not expect an easy game, although it would be nice being comfortable going into the last 15 minutes for a change!! Same team again, and reckon we'll see a bit more potency going forward as we seem to enjoy the counter attacking game on the road. 2-0 is what many have said and I agree with that, although any win will be fine! See ye up there!
  23. Fraid not, we lost 2-1. Billy Davies cracked home a right footed (honestly!) equaliser before Windass knocked home the rebound after Woodsy saved his initial penalty. It was then that a celebrating Leighton was attacked by an annoyed Cooper Stand punter, who lamped him in the coupon!
  24. I'm kinda glass half full about today's performance and result. Killie are a useful side and played fairly well today, so a point is far from disasterous. It was probably the right result, although their keeper had much more to do than Randy. I do think we need to work on our set piece delivery though, we had numerous chances but didn't put many good balls in the box today. Defended very well throughout, clean sheets will ensure we keep this good run going.
