  1. Its a pity the game's live, as both teams are playing some good stuff, and it should be an entertaining encounter with both teams playing it on the deck. I can totally understand any Killie fans staying away considering the kick off time and costs involved. Regarding the on-field action i anticipate this being close, as both teams have shown plenty of passing ability and skill throughout the season so far. We lost out on the head to head with Killie last season, so we kinda owe them! Same team and hopefully the same outcome! I'll say 1-0 Well again with Higgy getting the goal he deserved at Easter Road.
  2. As convincing a 1-0 win as you'll ever see. In truth we should've had 3 or 4 today, how Higgy failed to score is beyond me. Great performance from the lads today, not a failure in the side.
  3. Middleton's is usually fairly welcoming for us Well fans, been in a few times myself. As Rickoza will no doubt mention though, check your change!!! On the field I can see another decent game with a few goals. They seem to have picked up a bit recently so it won't be easy, but we always look dangerous going forward too. No changes to the side, and a 2-1 Well win for me.
  4. Innocent until proven guilty. That is all.
  5. Sadly a lot of people have made up their minds on Higdon and McCall, and nothing will change that. I know of some folk who said Higdon was pish after the Morton friendly!!! Great read from the gaffer.
  6. Not the most silky of performances, but we did at least try to win the game, something that couldn't be said of our once-illustrious visitors. Also, only about 200 away fans, one of the worst Dons supports in years, shows how far they've slipped. Delighted for McHugh to net the winner, great work rate and an assured finish. If we can take something from Tannadice next week we'll be good fettle ahead of the international break.
  7. Excellently put sir. Some of the shouts today were a disgrace. "F*CKIN JUMP!!" Aye, Higdon should jump for a ball coming to him at chest height! Very good, mongos! Get behind the team people, ALL of the team.
  8. I firstly have tho say that I thought it was a cracking cup tie! Both sides attacked and created loads of chances, it was dramatic end to end stuff at times and I enjoyed the encounter. I thought overall the team were much better than Saturday, showed much more desire and application and were great going forward, certainly after the initial 20 minutes. It looks like we were undone by a wrong flag when McHugh scored near the end, but our defensive negligence cost us big time before that. Very disappointed to go out, and we MUST address our defensive frailties which are costing us in every game. Yes we probably should've tied the game up in the second half, but with 3 minutes to go you just clear your lines! Before that both Jenno and Clancy were profligate in defensive areas yet we escaped. These incidents of slackness need to stop. Delighted to see Randy play so well, but also irritated that he had so much work to do! That said I though Mark Brown was excellent for Hibs too. Regarding Saturday I may be that Hump is out injured, and I do think that perhaps Jenno and Murph need a spell on the bench. if not then guys like Forbes and McHugh could become disillusoned, they deserve a chance to prove themselves. Ach well, onwards and upwards!
  9. I can accept a poor performance from any Motherwell team, but what I will never accept is being outfought, which is what happened today. Too many players simply didn't give enough against a St Johnstone team who were hungrier and worked a damn sight harder than anyone in Claret and Amber today. I'd have them in for training tonight and tomorrow, they have a cheek taking a wage quite honestly. Defensively we were very weak, and quite frankly were bullied by Sheridan and Sandaza. Time to man up lads! The midfield was non-existant too, when we needed some drive and direction sadly they went into hiding. Up front we were powder puff, but the service to them was shocking, so perhaps they escape the major flack. Tuesday night v Hibs I'd be starting Page, Forbes, Carswell and McHugh, some of the established players need a real boot in the arse, so dropping them might just achieve that. One awful performance doesn't necessarily ruin our season, but we need a big reaction over the next two games, otherwise we will slip into the mid-table mire and the early season optimism will be completely dissipated.
  10. Well done Stuart, just a bit of a shambles we didn't get the player of the month too.

    Dunfermline

Lots of excellent performances yesterday, but my vote went to Jenno, who I though was magnificent throughout.
  12. It was a day of virtually all positives, apart from the 15 minutes that The Pars scored twice and we generally switched off and started pissing about, rather than going for the jugular. However, everything else was superb on the day, from our 70 minutes of almost total domination to our wonderful support. The young lads never stopped singing all day, although I still have the 'Chrissy Humphrey' song in my head now!!! It will be interesting to see if they are allowed to be as vocal and supportive at the San Giro next time out..... Many good displays yesterday, thought Clancy was good on debut although I'd have liked to have seen one or two changes at 3-0. Forbes and Lawless could've got another run out, maybe McHugh too. Maybe I'm being little churlish there, but perhpas that injection of freshness might've ensured a more comfortable ending to the game. Delighted for Higgy too, the goals will flow now I'm sure.
  13. Ha ha ha not quite, don't have a brown coat or enough keys for that role! No, in advertising, nothing glamourous! Thanks for the vote of confidence though!!!
  14. Did ye have to mention that game Andy??!!!! Hopefully things will be much better on Saturday, which will be my 900th Well first team game, my testimonial if you will! Team-wise we should probably remain along similar lines, although I'd like to see Forbes start and use Hump as a second half impact sub when (hopefully) the Pars defence are tiring. Any win will be fine, but I'll go for 2-0 Well with Higdon and Murphy our matchwinners.
  15. Deal done. Working at The Herald has some benefits!!!

    Clyde

A lot of good performers late night, but my vote went to Forbes who was terrific in midfield. Great range of passing, comfortable on the ball and always available to receive a pass.
  17. A very good night all round. Easy bus journey from Glasgow, nice couple of pre-match beers and a comfortable passage into the next round! Great to see some young guys play their part, thought Forbes at times ran the midfield and young Lawless was tremendous too, took his goal very well. It was great to be able to make a few changes, meaning that much of the starting X1 at Dunfermline this Saturday will be fresh and raring to go.
  18. I certainly would freshen the team up, its clear some need a wee rest, and tomorrow seems the ideal opportunity to do that. For me I'd start Page, Halsman, Carswell, Forbes and McHugh, allowing the likes of Craigan, Hammell and Lasley to rest up ahead of our visit to The Pars on Saturday. So this would be my side: Hollis Hateley Hutchinson Page Halsman Carswell Forbes Law Murphy Higdon McHugh Subs: Randolph, Smith, Pollock, Lawless, McKinnon That team should be good enough to beat Division Three Clyde, albeit they are unbeaten and definitely a tougher proposition than last year. 3-0 Motherwell with Higdon off the mark.
  19. Very disappointing once again facing that mob. They seem to have the measure of us every time we face them. It is laudible that we tred to impose our passing game on them, but I'm sure we'd all have settled for a more pragmatic approach if it brought a better result. Horses for courses and all that. We gave them too much room at times, but in fairness guys like Davis and Jelavic are absolute class, and they did counter attack with pass and precision. However as others have said, perhaps we did leave ourslves exposed by pushing our full backs too high up the field. The stick for Higdon is, in my view, over the top. He was isolated for large sections today, although he did battle well and won plenty ball. In his four games he's hardly been given a decent chance to score. As soon as that changes he'll score a few and set up even more, I feel sure of it. Regarding Hump, yes he didn't do too much going forward, but he does at least work for the team defensively, always tracking back with his man. Perhaps the main problem is the lack of experienced options on the bench, which is something we sorely need to address. Mind you, would it have hurt to throw on Lawless and McHugh with fifteen minutes to go? These lads must be wondering if McCall rates them. I expect to see a few of them feature at Clyde on Wednesday though. All in all, we're sitting joint top after five games having lost only once. The big picture aint too bad I suppose.
  20. I like the look of this team, although I might have Forbes in a more attacking role, leaving Las and Jenno to anchor the midfield. It also means we can unleash Hump in the last 20 minutes. Predictions here tend to be pointless, as when heart rules head we mostly come unstuck!! Any realistic comments are frowned upon too, but must surely be understandable by now! Me? I tend to be stuck between both stools, and this Sunday I'm predicitng a draw due to their injuries and tiredness after their European exertions. That will mean we don't get any credit for continuing our great start to the season, but frankly I couldn't care less!! Mon the Well!!

    St Mirren

The whole defence worked hard and did their jobs very well, but my vote went to Forbes, who for me shone in his best position.
  22. That was a fantastic three points, if a little undeserved! yes the home side had more possession and territory, but Randy had one healf-hearted save to make, whereas Samson made about five great stops. We were a little slack at times, but we defended superbly, especially in front of goal. Hateley's free kick was a peach, and what a celebration when it went in! Still top after four games, and for me the best stat is no goals against. If we keep that sort of defending up we'll do very well.
  23. Thought Hateley was tremendous today, his best game for a while.
  24. Delighted with the result today. It was one we had to tough out at times, but we did play some nice fitba too. Hearts had no intention of making this a fitba match, preferring to sit deep, pass the ball about the back and kick us all over the park. O'Reilly was up to his usual, talking to our lads for a soft foul whilst allowing their thugs to do what ever they pleased. On that note, Ian Back is a dirty wee junkie scumbag. So, top of the league and still unbeaten. What delights me most is our clean sheet record. If you have a solid defence then you give yourself a chance of winning. So for all the praise guys like Murphy and Law have received, the same has to be said of Crags and his fellow defenders. St Midden next week, here's hoping for another win. Would be nice to have the Blue Filth here with us still top!
  25. Well said, completely agree with that.
