  1. I've been saying we need an overhaul for years, but it's never going to happen. The entire system exists for the short term gain of Celtic and Rangers. If there was ever any doubt about that, Rangers staying in the league after administration/liquidation (and worse, many in authority wanting them to stay in the top division) should have proved it. There are too many chairmen and board members around the country who either support one half or the other of the Old Firm, or believe they are dependent on them for survival. As neither team cares about the development of the domestic game and even less about the international game, nothing will change unless we ever get rid of them from the league. It's ironic that coaches from around the world come to Largs for education, but we refuse to implement the lessons that are taught there. Other countries have shown it's possible to successfully overhaul a failing system, but we don't have the vision or ambition to tackle it.
  2. My point is that anyone we put in that team right now looks out of their depth. Even Robertson looked clueless, and I'm pretty sure he does OK with whatever wee club he plays for these days.
  3. It's a steal, but also a risk - albeit a small risk from what we have seen with Turnbull. He hasn't played a full season in the Scottish Premiership yet and it's not unheard of for a player to have an outstanding year when he's 19 or 20 and then disappear off the radar. While I have no doubt Turnbull can perform at a high level, so far he's not had the chance to prove it. (Turning down a chance of EPL football also raises a legitimate question about confidence to play at that level). Fraser on the other hand has proven EPL ability and experience. The money paid in England is ridiculous, however and the billions generated is mostly spent on players rather than improving the experience (and prices) for fans. If you divide any transfer fee paid by an English club by about 10, that is the realistic fee you can expect in Scotland. If he does maintain his form and rate of improvement, he could easily be sold for 20 or 30 million to an English team in a few years time. That is why we need to get the add-ons built in to that transfer.
  4. The biggest issue these days is that every player who pulls on a Scotland jersey immediately expects bad results and poor performances. Even guys like Roberston (who is on the FIFA Player of the Year list) seem to lose the ability to retain possession or find a man with a pass. It's going to be a long process to rebuild the mentality required to perform at that level. The U21s are a bit better, but their last qualification for any tournmanet finals was also back in the 90s I believe, so they aren't exactly overflowing with players likely to make a big difference in the senior team.
  5. More than Heckingbottam. Less than Levein.
  6. If I was a betting man, I'd bet Facebook is happy to provide as much data on its users purchasing habits as a client is willing to pay for. I imagine that will only increase when they launch their new crypto currency. There are also literally thousands of examples of apps (iOS and Android) that run services that send data back to marketing and advertising companies freshly plucked from your phone. And that's barely scratching the surface.
  7. There's a piece in The Scotsman today ranking the most in-demend Premiership kits. Ours is 4th after Rangers, Celtic and Hibs. The lack of sponsor and classic away design seem to be working as far as sales are concerned.
  8. Our pressing game had certainly dropped before Cole came on. Thought it gave us renewed energy when he and Hylton came on.
  9. A number of the law updates have been sensible changes. It just seems to be the handball "improvements" that have been misguided.
  10. Aye, it's a no-brainer to get Rangers wages and play in England compared to getting Motherwell wages and maybe a few starts in our first team. If he applies himself there it could be a very good loan spell for him.
  11. I can see both sides to this one. The fan in me wanted him to stay and see if he could get back to his previous form. However, there's not much financial security with short contracts every couple of months. I'd rather have taken the chance and offered him a full season.
  12. I thought he had a decent game and not quite sure what it is that make some fans think he's poor. Two footed winger who scored a goal. Will be even better when he's fitter.
  13. TBF, despite many posters having written him off as a lighweight already, Seedorf scored one, laid one on a plate for Scott, was denied another by a foul in the box (but stayed on his feet) and had another effort go narrowly wide. He can cut inside and shoot with his right foot or go wide and cross with his left. He's far from the finished article, but his first few games have been better than Ariyibi's first few games and he turned out OK.
  14. I can only assume the ref thought Hylton was illegally holding off the defender before he was dragged down. Clearly wrong, but at least it had no bearing on the final result.
  15. Cole looks likes he could play the lone striker role if we get him fit enough for 90 mins. He offers more physicality, hold up and pressing than Long. Having said that, if Long can get a bit sharper in front of goals he could be looking at a decent tally this season. Another option up top, however, wouldn't be a bad idea.
  16. Nothing yet. However, if we are trying to negotiate add-ons etc. that's to be expected. It seems like it took us a few months to get all the paperwork in place for McKinstry's move, and that was with both clubs fully on board with the deal. If we were just going for the straightforward, standard comp I think it would have had to been sorted by now.
  17. I thought Scott had a great game, but thought he was even better at Accies last weekend.

    Vs Hibs

Seedorf got Jonathan Sutherland's Man of the Match in his BBC report.
  19. I'm pretty sure that being much better than our opposition in a game will lead to success. To predict how we will perform against the team in the next match based on that is a mugs game. We were much better than Hibs today too - so it's still working. Maybe this simplistic approach has something to it.
  20. The problem is that the OF want to leave their colt teams behind so their fans can continue to pollute our stadiums when their big team is too far away to watch.
  21. And yet "mediocre" was enough to boss the game from start to finish. Although Polworth and Campbell were better than that.
  22. It helps make you look even less informed than usual - and that is a pretty low bar.
