Scottish Cup Final v Celtic (Hampden) 19/05/18 15:00

Remember that Inverness v Falkirk cup game in the 70s that was postponed 29 times? *That* was bad weather. -
Moult, if we'd been allowed to vote for him. Carson and Kipre seems like a good shout, although Tait has been very solid too. Overall, though, I won't vote as I don't see the team play every week.

It's a bit of a stretch to compare Jim's team with Tommy's early team. We were parking the bus, had little creativity, struggling down the bottom of the league and avoided relegation due to league reconstruction. Dundee Utd. played a very effective form of counter attacking football that relied on the likes of Bannon and Milne with their speed. Tactics that saw them winning a host of European ties against top flight opposition. They were easily one of the top teams in the UK at the time, and a UEFA cup final and run to the European Cup semis (with a narrow defeat) showed they were a force in Europe too.

We were terrible in that game, and our awful performance was nothing to do with Dallas. We need to focus on playing well, not worrying about who the ref is. -
That's how Tommy McLean approached the job too. Started off by tightening up the defence. It wasn't until the likes of Bobby Russell arrived a few years later (and Davie Cooper after him), we became more of an attacking threat.
-
It will never happen, but if refs were allowed to comment publically on their decisions - what they saw, and why they called it that way - I think it would help. Not only because it would help clarify, but because it might make for more accountability and keep them on their toes. Not quite the same situation, but after our League Cup semi when Vincent Lunny explained in great detail which incidents would be punished, or reviewed, and the reasons why - it helped make sense of a few things which are usually kept quiet behind closed doors. We might not always agree, but knowing the thought process behind these things often adds some much needed clarity.

Scottish Premiership Game 29 : Aberdeen (H) 03/04/18 19:45

Obviously we're geared up for it here, but it's funny watching the "Snowmageddon" panic across the media. Of course, there is always a bigger panic when the white stuff arrives in the South East. We had more snow than that the weekend before last with barely a blip on roads, buses and trains. And in late December we had 2 full weeks where the high temperature didn't crawl above -12C. (And I'll bet Haggis had it worse out in Chicago). Glad they made the early decision on the games, though. Just hope the Hearts game makes it. -
What you said was "2 others were against teams that were really struggling at the beginning of the season (Hearts, Kilmarnock)" - with the implication they didn't count as much as beating other top 6 teams because you feel the opposition weren't playing well. I don't think we'll make top 6 this season, but wouldn't care if we got a top 6 with wins exclusively against the bottom 6.
-
I assume his connection with our club is that they are both controlled by Flo.
-
Aye, beating teams when they're not playing well should definitely not count as a real win.

Murphy, as is well documented on here, is a diehard blue nose - so not much manipulation going on there. Regardless, I don't see how is kissing a badge any different from a knee slide towards the fans, or picking up and wearing a scarf tossed onto the pitch etc. Some people are picking up a symbolism I just don't get.
-
A Scottish Challenge Cup win, presumably.
-
U20s avoid having to play any senior players today and record a win against Accies. Coincidence?
-
All of the above, plus a big chunk of debt paid off and over 2400 Well Society members would make it a pretty strong season.
-
Given last year's efforts, I'll be delighted if we just stay away from the playoffs around the time of split. I have a suspicion Killie's run is about to end, but that might just be wishful thinking.
-
I've never understood why the badge kissing thing gets so many people riled up.

Do the SPFL ever cancel games if travel is an issue? Aberdeen will no doubt come down the night before and stay locally. The fans aren't usually given a second thought. -

No - the SPFL didn't manage to sell the US rights for a single game this season. It should be easy to find a stream, though. -

Aye, they have it listed on their website - on Sky Sports Football and Sky Sports Main Event channels. -

Didn't realise the game was live on Sky. That'll be a work from home Wednesday, then. -

Was that Caulker that should have blootered Main's cross out for a corner at the near post? Whoever it was, well played. -

And that's just for the sofa in front of the telly. -
When did Ricky Reid play for us? Not a name I'm familiar with.

I think Moult will do all right. My comment was more about how bad Preston were yesterday - they created zero chances, and that wasn't Moult's fault. Ipswich, under McCarthy, will do that to a game. I'm amazed that the Ipswich fans, who are used to a team that plays football on the deck, have put up with McCarthy for so long. Yesterday was Moult's 2nd start, I think, and it seems Alex Neil wants to play both Moult and Barkhuizen. If Preston get back to previous form, the goals will come. There are plenty of poor teams in that league, particularly in the lower half.
