  1. Welcome to the world of the ex-pat/exile.
  2. He's in the huff after his rumoured 'dream move' to Rangers didn't work out
  3. You don't need to be Platini, no. However, if you are just humping the ball up the park to the opposition it doesn't relieve the pressure on the defence and makes it less likely you will keep a clean sheet. All the great, and most of the good, teams have defenders sufficiently comfortable on the ball that they can at least find a man in space when required. It's a sad indictment on the Scottish game when the basic ability to pass a ball is not seen as a necessary skill for a player. Of course there are times when a safety-first approach is needed, but I don't remember Joe Wark (for example) having trouble finding a man when he was setting up an attack.
  4. Not anymore. Match abandoned!
  5. Spot on. I was happy to see Brown take the club through to the end of his first season. Was not too happy that he came back. Harsh. But true.
  6. Which striker, for how long, and for how much?
  7. Bit like all the loans we brought in last January.
  8. Really? You think all our youngsters will be the finished article by the time they hit 21?
  9. From Gordon Young's interview: "He played against St Johnstone reserves, Hearts reserves and Airdrie and did well enough for Craig and (assistant) Archie (Knox) to agree that he was a player who had something we could develop. "He's not the finished article, he may take some time before being considered for the first-team but he has a one year contract with the option of an extension.
  10. Given his track record for delivering exactly the signings he said he'd bring in, that wouldn't have been too big a deal. It would only have mattered if we lost 10 first team players every summer - which was unlikely given that the guys that came in obviously wanted to work with him.
  11. I don't see 150k in either of those articles you linked. All I see is 'undisclosed'. EDIT: Plus of course we don't know how much Reynolds actually went for, add-ons etc.
  12. So it wasn't the 'big' pressure situations he couldn't handle then. It was diddy cup games? That sounds like the opposite rumour.
  13. Yep, and the older players that think they have a God given right be in the team every week that take the huff when they are dropped for a youngster with potential (Or because they are playing like a donkey).
  14. Not that mental for a club that trying to develop youngsters and sell them on. If the system is working, we should always be in a transfer 'deficit' as it were.

    New Owners?

Nah. Boyle dropped a few pound coins while he was counting the money from the Reynolds transfer.

    New Owners?

Turns out all that happened is John Boyle accepted an offer from a French Polisher to buff out a scratch on the table in the board room.
  17. I think that was secondary. Primary was that he wouldn't cost any money to bring in. I would imagine he'll be waiting to see what is actually put in place first. More importantly I don't think he is rash enough to judge McCall at such short notice. The test is what happens over the summer.
  18. We need more than 1 player for each position. Just because we signed a left-back first, doesn't mean that is the only area McCall is trying to fill, or that it is even his top priority. It just means it was the deal he could get tied up first.
  19. Interestingly, in my gmail folder the header reads: "New Signing - Motherwell News 'Well Complete Gunning Signing Chris Porter" Wonder if they are working on an email for our new striker too?

    Semi Final

Our recent record against Rangers is so poor that I don't even bother trying to find an internet stream when we are playing them these days. Despite that, if I was back in Scotland, wild horses wouldn't keep me away from a Cup semi. These are the only competitions we have any realistic chance of winning and we'll beat that mob sooner or later. (Probably later, right enough, but you never know )
  21. Wee Tommy is a better manager than McGhee - tactically, very astute. His team would win that game 8 times out of 10.
  22. No interims for me. After the last two contractless managers, the situation was crying out for a bit of stability and a boss with a 2 or 3 year deal in his back pocket. I can't see many candidates that meet our criteria that are going to be available at the end of the season. McCall was handed a difficult job, and if he keeps us mid-table until the end of the season and builds something over the summer, that will keep me happy.

    Perth

Must have been. Cold, wet and miserable - as only Dumbarton can be. And to top it off, a 0 - 0 result which was also on Scotsport that night. (Back in the days when if, BBC or STV wanted to show English highlights they had to show highlights of a Scottish game that was being played on the same night).
